It’s no wonder this place is number one on TripAdvisor.
If you’re unsure where the restaurant is then head towards the Barley Sheaf pub. When you’re within a 20-30 metre radius you’ll be able to smell it.
Whilst it’s relatively small the the place has a great atmosphere. This gives it its character along with its friendly and helpful staff.
It’s not one of these phony setups that pretends to be something it isn’t. It’s the real deal.
Next time you’re contemplating going out for food in Truro, try this place.
Had the 12oz smoke house burger and have to say it was one of the best burgers I’ve had..
Will definitely be going back..
The sharing platter looks awesome ...

Absolutely gorgeous meal. The Hawaiian burger with the Hot Smokey BBQ sauce is a delight and I know I'll be having it again. My husband went for The Fireblade and it certainly packed a punch full of heat!
And even the baby enjoyed the dessert! Thank you.
We absolutely loved our first visit and it certainly won't be our last! We both had ribs with the smokey mild sauce and the meat was so tender it just fell off the bone and melted in the mouth. We had our 2 month old baby with us and everyone was so friendly and kind. Can't wait to come back and try the bunny chow next!
After being a chef for 15 years I have never felt the need to go to the same restaurant twice within the space of two weeks.let me tell you all the first time was not a one off, a good choice of food and sauces and all cooked very well. I will definitely keep going back again and again my new favourite restaurant not just in truro but in Cornwall. And I've eaten at a lot of places
Just wow. Since coming here with friends to celebrate my husbands birthday we can’t stop praising this little secret food paradise. Aside from the best burgers I think we have ever tasted everything we ordered was delicious and interesting. Shane was lovely and helpful and the atmosphere was just so relaxed! It’s like being welcomed into a friends home and we can’t wait to visit again! This is what dining locally should be about.
Booked a large party of us for a meal. Everyone really enjoyed their food, great size portions and the Platters were especially good. Really helpful and friendly staff and owners who went out of their way to cater for us. Will most definately be back again.
What a fantastic experience Chorleys is.
Terrific food, very good service, Lovely staff well worth a visit.
Excellent food and really friendly staff. Highly recommend!
For a Saturday lunchtime it was surprisingly quiet, went with my son for a birthday burger - and it did not disappoint! A friendly welcome and superb service throughout was matched with delicious burgers. We both had 'The Hornet'; 12oz of patty with melting cheese oozing from it, cream cheese, honey & piri piri sauce - ridiculously tasty! Fries and onion rings were accompanied (by request) with a selection of Chorleys sauces which were all excellent. These are available to take away (as is the rest of the menu) and disappointingly I forgot to buy a bottle to go. All in all, a throughly enjoyable lunch - we will be back!!
Was made to feel welcome by the friendly staff. I absolutely loved the juicy lucy burgers with the smokey hot sauce that i actually bought some to take home! Will be back for more soon. Highly recommend.
Very lucky to have won the Durban curry burger competition! And the burger was absolutely delicious! Big hit with the husband too :) wasn't to Spicy and chips was lovely also! Will 100% be coming back again! Thank you ever so much for a lovely meal!
P.s need to sell pots of the curry was sooo good!
Had our first go today, smokehouse was lush massive and beaten! Defo best burger I've had
Delicious! Sean was wonderfully helpful, friendly and we absolutely enjoyed his passion for South Africa and recommending tasty dishes. Beef curry was so yummy and Malva pudding has quickly risen as one of my favourite desserts! See you again soon 🎊
First time at Chorley's and South African food. The Veggie option was really moorish and the mutton curry was amazing. A good choice in desserts as well. Great atmosphere and very helpful and friendly staff. Well worth a visit.
Lovely food and lovely service. Food was tasty and very filling. Only down side is that the booths in the pics are not built for larger boned people (embarrassing), but thankfully, there are other free-standing tables and chairs to sit on. We had chicken wings for starters and the mild chorley's sauce was lip smackingly good. Followed by mutton curry and a mix up grill. Wow we were so full up, we nearly needed wheelbarrows to carry us back. Very very filling and flavoursome food. The artwork outside was breathtaking. The only criticism and it is very small is that the toilet is up some stairs which may not be so good for mobility challenged individuals. Other than that highly recommended and we will be back again.
African themed restaurant not far from Truro Carhedral. Varied menu and takeout availability, the ribs were excellent. The restaurant is small, so would suggest booking in advance.
Visited on Friday as in area , I originally booked for night after but staff more than happy for us to change.
Atmosphere super friendly and relaxed, decor really nice and authentic.
We ordered lager and the sharing platter for 2 , presented nicely , was really tasty definitely be going back 😋
Food was really good, I had chicken wings and mutton curry. The wings were definitely my top 3 best wings I ever had. Very disappointed with the curry, it left me with a lot to be desired.
My friend had a chicken burger apparently it was his top five burger he ever had. He said better than Bookoos. 🥹😆
Service was quick. Friendly customer service and staff. We were lucky to seat down without booking, must have been due to to England v France game.
First time we had visited and we were impressed! We both had Bunny Chows, which were curries in half loaves. They were fab, tasty and the right amount of spice to them. They were very filling, which sadly meant we had no room for dessert or to try an alcoholic milkshake, but it has given us an excuse to go back! The owner who served us was very friendly and took the time to chat to us about the concept and history. Definitely recommended.
Fantastic place, small but well run and organised. Without a booking we were greeted and welcomed. Shane explained the menu and checked on us during the meal. We watched him happily greet people, and fit patrons in where he could.
The food, wow. Just perfect.
We wish we had more time in Truro to try more menu items.
Terrific casual spot, give them a try.
Another fantabulous meal, the Chorley's Signature Platter is amazing and we had to take some of it home! Trued the new peppermint tart and it was absolutely delicious, a new favourite dessert.
Service is amazing and nothing is too much trouble.
Wonderful relaxing atmosphere, excellent service. Small restaurant but well spaced out. The food was amazing, I am not a big fan of spicy food, but this had plenty of choices for everyone, and the waitress was highly knowledgeable about the choices on offer. I had a traditional african curry to try new things, which I found was very tasty and different. My husband had the vegetarian bean bunny chow, which was awesome, half a loaf filled with curry! He loves spicy food and he was very impressed. The desserts were to die for, I had the mint tart which was sort of a firm caramel cheesecake on a biscuit base drizzled with caramel sauce and covered with mint chocolate shavings. Delicious! I observed others having a sharing platter of ribs and chicken and all sorts, and it looked fantastic. A really different experience with the African cuisine and definitely somewhere we would go again as we wish to sample more of their menu.
Fantastic family-run restaurant. Laura & Shane found a table for us at the end of a busy Saturday evening, and they were still able to provide a wonderful atmosphere.
First time eating freshly cooked South African cuisine; everything in the sharing platter was excellent.
We left full and happy, with a bottle of homemade sauce and a reignited love for Amarula.

A really nice and cosy restaurant with a friendly staff. I've been already two times and the food is amazing, never had south African food before and I love it. Make sure you have space for the desserts! Better that you book a table to make sure you have space. Thank you, already looking forward to going back!
It was nice to find this South African restaurant in the middle of Cornwall. Because we are South African ex-pats, we found wors a bit too skinny and dry. Otherwise, the other food such as beef bunny chow was lovely.
Absolutely outstanding food. Ordered a burger and dirty fries as a monthly cheat meal and my word, I regret being on a diet! By far the best in Truro.
Excellent quality food, fantastically cooked.
10/10!
Came here as a gift for my
Partner who is South African. the food and service was incredible and the atmosphere was amazing. my partner said it made her homesick! sadly we don’t live locally otherwise this would be my
New favourite. would definitely recommend!
Amazing food and atmosphere. I'm not a fan of restaurant eating but I love coming to Chorleys. Always in pristine condition and service is brilliant.
Called in on a day out in Truro. We were searching for somewhere to eat, and quite by luck we came across Chorleys. We looked at the menu outside, and were drawn in by that and the amazing aromas wafting out. Three of us each had a different burger, and shared some peri peri fries, which had a lovely kick to them, and the crispiest onion rings we’ve ever tasted. The food was of the highest quality, and the gentleman serving us was extremely polite and good at his job. We explained that one of our group had a dairy allergy, which was no problem and the cheese on that persons burger was exchanged for a dairy free alternative. We are visiting Cornwall again in a few weeks, and will travel down to Truro from Bude to eat there again.
Welcoming, chilled environment. First time visiting after being recommended by family. Definitely be returning the food was delicious the atmosphere had a lovely feel to it. A lovely hidden gem 💎
Lunch time treat. Went for the lunchtime light bites. Very friendly service. Food was delicious. We will be back to try out the evening menu
