Staying in coniston found this pub in a magazine in our room so decided to pay it a visit what a surprise we got the staff are amazing more than helpful in everyway giving tasters of the in house ciders and the food was scrumptious 12 guest ciders on the wall and I tried 9 of them over 2 visits glad I wasn't driving lol the place is a gem a real old pub well worth a visit
We stayed for two nights and loved the convivial, welcoming family
atmosphere, the charming evening entertainments, and the seductive old world
charm. Combine this with a location to dream of and you have surely one of
the best hotel/ pubs in Cumbria. *****
I felt totally spoilt by the chief on asking for gluten free meals, the food is freshly prepared & very tasty. Good to get such high quality gluten free food.
We stopped by here with our two dogs after a long walk. We had a drink and something to eat in the lovely beer garden. The lady from the bar brought fresh water for our dogs which was received by them with big waggy tails.
We had a club sandwich and the home made Salmon fish cakes with a portion of chips to share. All the food was presented well on slate boards and tasted great
Called in for lunch. The garden area is lovely. The food that came out was beautifully presented and was delicious, would definitely recommend. Discovered there was only 1 chef on and 2 away sick, there were a few big tables of people and we didn’t wait too long. Well done chef! And staff.
One of the lovliest pubs near Windermere. Fab beer garden with amazing views. The food is really good with some lovely ales. Fortunate enough to have been there several times during this glorious hot spell but with its cosy panelled bar I can imagine it being equally appealing in the winter or in Lakeland drizzle.
been coming here for about 6 years, the food has always been good, were disappointed when smoked haddock chowder was taken off the menu, but it is now back and just as delicious as it used to be. The fish and chips are excellent, beautiful views up there, friendly staff and dogs are welcome.
Great staff staff very friendly food very good and fantastic views well worth a visit
Amazing place, great staff and Kate is a real gem! Sean and I had an amazing evening of poetry last night... with beautiful views, Excellent company, and beautiful rooms <3 Thank you!
Alway's a pleasure returning to this historic pub...Amazing beer garden and great atmosphere and good food.
Just got back from a two night break staying here & we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Mortal Man Inn. The staff were very friendly, the food was fantastic & the Thursday eve story & poetry reading was so entertaining!
The scenery around the Inn is spectacular & there are walking routes to take right from the pub with printed guides available. A special shout out to Landlady Kate for the hangover Friday morning! Also to Spider who seemed to be working tirelessly twenty four hours a day to look after us.
A very memorable stay & we will hopefully be back again in the not to distant future!
Regards, Jamie & Susie
Cracking place, lovely food, great beer, super staff.
Wonderful stay! Lovely place in a beautiful setting. We were super grateful that our room was upgraded to a bigger one with an amazing view. Really friendly and helpful staff. Delicious pub downstairs!
Popped into this pub for some excellent food. Very dog friendly pub. Staff were incredibly thoughful and helpful. Would recommend Dinner here to anyone. Plenty of Gluten Free options available as well.
It was a great place to get lunch, I had the broccoli and stilton soup which was gorgeous! They have a great dining atmosphere and a lovely choice of music. I would definitely recommend you come here and get a drink or some food after a busy day in the Lake District!
This our favourite place for a good meal after a good day walking. Relaxed atmosphere, excellent service from friendly staff and very dog friendly.
Hotel is only 5 mins walk from where we're staying, great beer, good service and superb food. Couldn't fault it - will go again while we're here. Booking a table is recommended!
We had lunch here after a glorious drive up a hillside near Lake Windermere . Fabulous location and views. Wonderful character, food and service. A new favourite pub.
Went for a Christmas break with the dog, great hotel and food,
They were having issues with the car charger when incase there so ensure you have alternative ways to charge your car if needed, the staff were great and very helpful.
Thank you for the amazing few days.
Friendly hotel with excellent beer garden. Stayed here several times and always have a great time. Celeste and her team are brilliant, attentive and genuinely friendly. Restaraunt food is brill with an amazing new chef and menu. Great choice of beers, ciders and gins what's not to like 👌

Had Sunday lunch. 3 meals of traditional Sunday roast ( beef, chicken, and bacon chop ) and the usual menu in addition. Nice service. Lovely spot with nice garden sitting area for a drink in decent weather.
Pub food was fantastic, best roast we've had in years. Game pie was also a highlight.
Lovely place, stayed on the 21st October for my bday and they made it special for us, complimentary bottle of prosecco 🥂 and nice bday wishes 🎉
Friendly staff, clean rooms, food was nice too, highly recommend!
We enjoyed a lovely bank holiday overnighter here with our dog.
We arrived on a rainy and misty afternoon and stretched our legs with a wet walk down to the nearby tearoom, before walking back and enjoying a couple of drinks in the very busy bar whilst drying in front of the fire.
On checking in, our room had a fire escape through the bathroom, which was ideal for taking the dog out easily, but a bit of a concern that other guests might need the emergency exit when we were in the bathroom... Thankfully this is a low risk and not one we had to deal with during our stay. We had showers in the evening before dinner and were glad we did, because there was no hot water in the morning so could only have a quick freshen up - it was explained at check out that the hot water had been switched off by mistake.
We had booked a table for dinner online, at the same time as booking the room. Having already spent a couple of hours in the bar, we had already looked at the menu and watched food coming out. It was a Sunday and the roasts looked particularly impressive with a big Yorkshire pudding positioned on top, so we both ordered the beef roast. The beef, Yorkshire pud and veg were all tasty, and the gravy was delicious and plentiful, but we were a bit disappointed with the roast potatoes (normally one of the best bits of a roast), which had a texture that suggested they had been made a while ago and kept warm for a long time. Breakfast was continental buffet style, and topped up by staff.
We had lovely late night and early morning strolls straight from the pub, walking alongside Trout beck (the stream), once the rain had cleared, which was ideal for our dog. We also enjoyed seeing the ducks and geese by the car park, the horse and pony down the lane and all the lambs in nearby fields on our walks.
Staff / service were generally good and we enjoyed our stay; we'll definitely return, we'd love to visit on a day we can take advantage of the beautiful beer garden and views.
Amazing food in a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. We will definitely be returning when next in the area!
