Have been going to this pub now for over 15 years, whenever I get to Torbay. Now run by the original landord's son, it is without doubt, the best pub in Torbay ! To describe it as "characterful" is to grossly understate the facts. If you have never been, it is an absolute must. When "Wheelie" was still going, he used to pick me up in the morning to walk the dogs, and then back to the CaS, for a couple of perfect pints, and a plateful of Heather's Spag.Boll. Oh, happy memories !

The Sunday lunches are really fantastic. Been here many times now and never disappointed. The ingredients are fresh and delicious. Quite frankly, and I can only say this now my dear mother has passed, their Sunday lunch is even better!!

In my humble opinion, the music nights here are the best in the Bay. The standard of acts is very high and the sound is great. It's always an inspiration and having been many times I have yet to leave without a big smile on my face. Highly recommend.

A really good night, Marla and David were great and the banter was interesting too. Small, intimate venue so this is important. Looking forward to the next one.

I've rated this place before.... But it seems that Google wants more.... I could go there every day" And for not one moment would it be boring or grey" Trust me on this it's a must" It's not just a breath of fresh air it's a GUST!" opening times, events and food shall follow when I next venture that way" And many more photos of this pub THE CROWN AND SCEPTRE and surrounding areas of ST MARYCHURCH here in the bay. Here's a few of the local scenes at night..." But beware! Misbehave and the pub landlord DAVE might bite!?!!" Ha ha NO not on your nelly! BUT if you be bad" Like in ANY respectable drinking establishment it won't be tolerated! So be good,be smart and don't make DAVE mad!!! To be continued......

I've been in here many of times with the new own Colin and the last owner. This pub still a great pub. The beer is kept well and it's a pleasant place to have a drink away from that awful torquay town centre. I know alot of this pub has remained the same over the years. However there are alot less ales on offer than what their used to be. This pub is much brighter now that it used to look. This really look like a good old fashioned English pub with lots of character and get a nice bunch of customer in who are friendly but loud lol. This is always a great pub to relax in and is very warming. Try it out and be surprised we'll done Colin for managing the bar so we'll on your own it can't be easy.

Excellent 'real pub', haven't been in one like this for a long while. If only we lived closer... Although I'd probably be in there too much.

Very quiet when we visited, but the landlord and few punters were friendly. Looks like a great place for live music.

Lovely local pub. Not as characterful or as authentic as it used to be before refurbishment. And selection of ales and ciders narrower and more conventional. But still a nice pub. It's a shame they ruined the garden too.

UPDATE -CLOSED!! A great loss in my opinion . A Heritage Real Ale pub with interesting decor. 7-8 different ales on tap. Always a good conversation to be had at the bar with landlord Dave and anyone else who might join in..... Open fire in the colder months. Jazz on Tuesday nights and often Folk type music at the weekends. Quality of the Ale is outstanding every time.

Love this pub and lucky to have it as my local. Dave is great behind the bar, a great choice of real ales and lovely customers. The jazz nights are enjoyable especially considering I don't generally like jazz!

Excellent small but REAL pub. A bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit for its range of real ales and friendly welcome. Highly recommended to all those who prefer proper old pubs to the modern flashy but vastly inferior style.

We recently moved to St Marychurch from New Zealand and have struck gold! We feel privileged to be within a short walk from this proper pub. An outstanding range of well kept real ales with regular live music including great jazz every Tuesday evening to boot. We are yet to sample the Sunday lunch roast which we understand is excellent and I see is very low priced. A friendly local. Thank you.

Always a great selection of real ales in tip top condition. A proper pub with individual character and atmosphere and a home for local jazz musicians to do their stuff on Tuesday evenings.
