Had lunch here yesterday for my Husband's Birthday. Food was amazing and would highly recommend Chicken and chorizo in white wine sauce. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the views are stunning. Will be recommending to all my friends and family. Could not fault anything and will definitely be returning 😊

Lovely place, great food and fantastic staff.
Party of 17, we even had our own 'private' room, so we were able to enjoy a family catch up without interruption.
No dishes were sent out incorrectly.
All food was warm, freshly cooked and delicious.
It was no trouble to make a couple of last-minute changes to our pre-booked menu choices.
Even though I'm over an hours drive away, I will definitely be returning.

Can not fault this place. I've been to many many pubs with stop overs for campers and motorhomes and this one tops them all. They know exactly how to run an establishment such as this. The service is 10/10. The staff are very polite and always got a smile, which is hard to keep a smile in this world at the minute. I was served by a blonde woman who I think is either the owner or in charge, she is lovely and delight to be around. The food is brilliant, I had the butter milk chicken burger and the bun and everything was spot on with a brilliant combination of sauces, the chicken it's self was done in home made crispy batter and the chips are perfect, just how chips should be, nice and crunchy, I think they were triple cooked. I also have had a Yorkie board with my girlfriend and man, that was some really good food! The coliflower cheese is to die for. The beef was so soft and could tell it's been cooking for at least 15 hours, pork and stuffing was brilliant, gravey nice and thick, Yorkshires perfected & the roast potatoes nice and crunchy with some softness in the middle. Prices are very reasonable, probably the most reasonable prices around. Everything is home made. Thankyou for serving me a perfect meal and a nice atmosphere to let your hair down (if I had any). Oh and I can't forget the tall lad on the bar, a great guy so so polite and couldn't do enough for you. The owner is really nice and takes the time to talk to you, keeping the place clean and hoovered!.

We had a wheelchair with us, and gained easy flat access into the restaurant area. The staff were most accommodating getting us into place. There was plenty choice on the menu including vegetarian options. The fish and chips was perfect. As Arnie once said "I'll be back..."!

Lovely pub in a gorgeous location huge beer garden for the summer. Beautiful food recommend pre booking as always busy. Our Yorkie board came cold unfortunately but never had any other issues. Still would have it again just ensure they serve it hot!!

You can tell you are getting close as you feel to be in the middle of nowhere. The pub was very welcoming. We had reserved a table for 4, plus the dog. It was a little small, but we managed the fire was lit and nice a cosy. We got our drinks straight away. We ordered our food, which was pie and chips 🍟. My brother had fish and chips me mum got the lasagne. The only issue for use it was over an hour to get our meals ? The pud only had a few coupled in as it was a Thursday midday. So, I'm not sure what the delay was?

Hands down the best pub grub we’ve ever had. Scratch that - the best food we’ve eaten this year. Honestly. The chefs at this place are incredible. We had tacos to start - tacos are my husbands favourite food. As such, he’s eaten them all over the world. He says they’re the best he’s ever eaten. The sauce that goes with it…. All I can say is you should be bottling it and selling it as we’d certainly buy! The chip shop pie is nothing short of inspired. Meaty, moist, delicious. A real one off. and that beef in the baguette! So tender. We travelled 45 minutes each way to eat here and it was 100 per cent worth it. Can’t wait to be back and try more of the menu. Thanks so much for having us.

Renovated since my last visit with a new looking menu. Old favourites remain.
I opted for the salt and pepper ribs. They were tender and perfectly cooked. Very salty so have a drink on standby followed by baileys cheese cake. Mrs had s+p surf and turf and brownies. Very good food and service. Definitely be back!!

Stayed overnight in the secured car park in our motorhome and had a great meal last night. The food was amazing, the log burner and staff were very welcoming and dog friendly. So much that we are stopping a second night.

Amazing find. Food was amazing, staff very friendly, views fab. Sampled the Southern Fried King Prawn Sharing starter and the Salt n Pepper Surf n Turf. So full could only finish with a coffee as no room for a sweet. The car parks are huge but if you don't like driving single track lanes.....get someone else to drive as that is no excuse not to visit.

I’m a support worker and this evening I took a service user to the shepherds rest, the food was lovely and the staff were amazing! Dave, James and Nicola waiting on us on our every need and were so attentive to his needs. They all interacted very well with him and were so patient, will be taking him back for definite !

Beautiful traditional pub with amazing pies made on site and fresh. Be warned 45 min wait for them but well worth the wait. Locals will keep you engaged in conversation during that time along with amazing views. Prices are amazing too!
Thank you for the amazing time 😁

Great food, excellent wine list and great beers. Everything is excellent quality. The halloumi fries starter and pies mains were standout.
Recommend you book the Yorkshire Platter if you want that, we were too late, but there was plenty on the menu we could enjoy

Never been before but had a fantastic lunch with my partner and his son (8). Food was really good, nice portion sizes and very tasty. Told at ordering stage that one of our mains would take a little longer so were happy to wait and opted to add a shared starter to 'put us on.' Staff were pleasant and friendly. Good general atmosphere, lots of walkers and dog walkers in the bar with their 4 legged friends. We ate in the bar area as the gallery was already full (we hadn't booked a table but probably a good idea - the views from the gallery restaurant were brilliant). Paid just over £60 for a starter, childs main, 2 adult mains and drinks, which I thought was reasonable. I really enjoyed our visit and would definitely go again.

Had the mighty burger board.
Food was outstanding.
Burgers very lean. Onion rings homemade and chicken nuggets if not homemade were a excellent quality. Great value.
Staff great, friendly, attentive and genuine.
Stunning views and a good play area for the little one.
What is not to like really.

The mighty burger board was mahoosive. The gammon steak & cod & chips were very, very tasty. Plenty seating inside & out. Absolutely stunning views. Definitely a place to return to.

Absolutely brilliant pub! Try the famous Yorkshire wraps - you won't be disappointed. Outside is ample parking, covered beer garden and children's play area. Stunning views across the valley and on to Stoodley Pike.

Lovely country pub. You get a very good welcome from the staff when you walk in, nothing too much trouble. Had a table in the window with a fabulous view. And the food is delicious, steak and ale pie yum yum and chips to die for. Will definitely be going back and taking friends.

From reading previous reviews it doesn't seem to have improved any. We pre booked a table for 6 yesterday and from ordering food we waited over 50 minutes and to be honest it wasn't overly busy. We queried the wait with the waitress who had a very 'can't be bothered' attitude and as if by magic she then appeared with the food....no apology for the wait.
My daughter's partner had the mixed grill which he said the pork was very very dry, he ordered a peppercorn sauce which took an extra 10 minutes to come so that went to waste. The other meals were ok though.
The male waiter that took the order was really nice and had a bit of a laugh with us .
We did complain about the mixed grill and was offered a discount but then on speaking to the manager was told we wouldn't be charged for it...he did put the bad service down to how busy they were but I'm not sure the waitress had realised they were busy because she spent most of her time propping the bar up

Me and my friend came in yesterday for some food. The waitress made us feel really bad about not booking a table, she mentioned at least 3 times we should have booked. We felt really uncomfortable and wondered whether to leave, the only reason we didn't leave is because we were both starving after being out all day. There were spare tables in the bar area which we sat at, we ordered drinks and then moved to another available table as there was a draft and we were both cold being next to the door. The waitress then made us feel guilty about moving tables, we were actually laughing afterwards at how awkward it was. Other than the service of the one particular waitress, others were fine, the food was lovely and could not be faulted.

We dropped in on an off chance and were so glad that we did, had steak and mushroom pie which was absolutely out of this world. Made from fresh so 45 minute wait but well worth it. Views are amazing would advise anyone to book a top tabs before going to take advantage of them. The staff were very courteous and polite and make you feel very welcome, we are definitely returning for the same steak pie. Its well worth the 5 stars that we are giving the Shepherds Rest, well done for feeding us perfection!!! See you soon

Excellent service & food, they were fully booked and we didn’t have a booking, the girl behind bar found us a table to eat and then got us some drinks and a table in the bar whilst table cleaned and set, very attentive staff who could not do enough to help us out.
Excellent Excellent Excellent, will definitely go again.
Big thanks to all the staff.
