An absolutely superb Inn, quite possibly the best I've ever been to.
The food was beautifully cooked and delicious as we sat opposite the open fire with a pint of proper ale.
The rooms are astounding, extremely spacious yet homely and with beautiful wooden beams and shutters for the quirky windows.
The staff were all extremely friendly and wonderful, can not rate them highly enough. I could live there.
Oh, and the bed was soft and delightfully comfortable and made a great nights sleep alongside the blissful silence and rural darkness outside.
Wow a little gem of a village pub deep in Wiltshire. Amazing food and staff. Much needed after a 6 mile walk through some stunning villages like Teffont Evias.....just beautiful. We will be back for sure. Thank you for making us feel so welcome in your snug pub.
This place is just perfect. The character and ambience are awesome the food is amazing. I can’t use big enough words to express the experience. Well done
A fabulous authentic old inn.. well worth the winding lane up to it. Food was delicious and very reasonable. Definitely recommend.
Food was delicious 1st class. Highly recommend the spicy parsnip soup, best I have tasted in a very long time. Service and hospitality was 5*.
One of those pubs which still has the look and feel of being original and not a terrible branded pub which seem to be everywhere. Looks like original fittings. A good menu and definitely not a freeze and microwave job. Reasonable prices. Pubs like this make up for the desperate pubs I have visited in the local city. Staff are friendly and professional.
Visiting from Texas and enjoyed a lovely and tasty dinner there. The duck confit was delicious and beautifully presented. The pub atmosphere was cozy and authentic.
A great pub. Well kept beer, great food and friendly staff.
Amazing pub, lovely food, quirky features, staff helpful and accommodating, will def be back!!
This is a beautiful 14th century country inn. The food was delicious , we ate lunch and dinner there and the breakfast was very high quality. Such lovely people that work there too.
Our favourite local pub. The perfect blend of proper English pub and excellent restaurant standard food. Book though if you want to eat - it's small & cosy and very very popular with us locals!
Great old fashioned pub. Not exactly easy to find and not large but true english country pub. Great food. Highly recommended.
Excellent pub with good beer and great food. Worth seeking out
Lovely lunch from Ian and Toby in the kitchen and a bump start from the new landlord Ben when the car battery died. I love this pub.
My wife and I were on a long walk through the countryside and The Compasses was a suggested lunch stop, and we were so glad it was! The historic pub is lovely and cozy inside with beautiful outdoor space too. We were greeted by the friendly gentlemen working the bar and offered glasses of water right away. We ordered several appetizers to share along with a couple local ales. The food was excellent, with the scotch egg being absolutely the best we have ever had. Great pub and Inn in a beautiful setting.
Husband and I went for lunch. Fabulous old building. Friendly welcome. Attentive but not in-your-face service.
The food was very good, wines also good.
In gorgeous countryside, although that does mean it's a little out of the way. Nevertheless it's worth the drive as the scenery on the way is lovely.
This is the second time that me and my partner have visited The Compasses and on both Sundays the drinks, food and service have been outstanding. We cannot fault the roast beef, everything about the dish was perfect! And you really do not mind paying the prices for the quality of food you receive. All of the staff are very attentive and perfectly timed between our 3 courses. The location is in such a tranquil quiet part of Wiltshire, it really is filled with the perfect atmosphere and the perfect balance of country life. It is also dog friendly! If you want to dress up for the perfect date night or get together it really is out of this world! We recommend The Compasses to everyone we know and meet, and we will continue to return time and time again. Thank you again everyone!
The Compass Inn was my favourite stay in England. It is adorable! The room came with complimentary homemade cookies. The included breakfast was incredibly generous portions and very high quality. The dinner there was outstanding - we tried various salads, roasts and pudding. All fantastic. Highly recommend the chocolate tart, and Boef. The vegetarian dumplings were fantastic also. Service was quick and the waiters spent lots of time with us checking in. I’d love to stay again
Fantastic Sunday roast. Generous portion sizes with nice thick slices of meat. Everything on the plate tasted fantastic.
Proper old village pub, aesthetically pleasing to look at and be in.
Busy day with lots of patrons but the staff were always on top of things and more than happy to help.
Defo will be back again.
My sister and I went for lunch today and I am so glad we did! The pub itself is beautiful, you can’t get more of a traditional countryside pub and the garden is gorgeous with stunning views. The food was superb, I would go as far as to say the meal I had was one of the tastiest meals I’ve ever had and the desert was fab. I’ve never been before and only live down the road in Shaftesbury so shall be back again soon. If your in the area you must visit as it won’t disappoint!
I've regularly visited this pub: the beers are well kept and the food is good.
Covered seating outside makes the most of the countryside in Summer. While in winter the low ceilings and open fires make for a warm welcome.
Very rural Inn, in the middle of nowhere. Excellent clean and modern rooms, nice and cozy bar and Restaurant area, lovely outside seating, free parking. Loved the place and it's efficiency. Note breakfast starts at 9 am
Lovely food at the restaurant. Steak was great although slightly less salty would have make even more perfect. 2 adults and a child meal with drinks will set you back over £100 so it's a little bit more pricey than anticipated.
Lovely cosy old pub with amazing views, great friendly service, good food, clean comfortable rooms.
Will definitely return.
