Had another lovely meal at " The Donkey" last night, and it was as nice as always, such a lovely ambience there with very good attentive staff and the food was second to none , I must say I've never had a bad meal there , we usually go for Sunday lunch so it was nice to go there in the evening and know that the service and food is just as good any time of day/night xx
Best place around, fabulous owners and staff, and beautiful homemade food, can't get enough of this place very homely feel and my boys love feeding the donkeys. Would recommend to anyone to pop in xxx
Very traditional small pub with a history - lovely atmosphere and a donkey in the garden
Various food offer nights - steak/fish etc.
The food is very good and is my main reason for a visit - not had a bad meal there.
There is a modern garden room at the back but personally would rather be in the original building
Just been for a fab steak so a reason to do a review
Just had a superb meal at the Donkey this evening...highly recommended. The scallops & steak are to die for.
Fabulous welcoming staff & lovely to see the two donkeys. A really lovely country pub.
Lovely pub in a beautiful location with 2 donkeys in the garden too.
Had a wonderful 3 course lunch etc served
by friendly and very helpful staff. Hope the high standards don't change when the pub is sold to new landlords.
Consistently great food and service. Just a sandwich and a salad today for lunch, but still very good. The fish and seafood looked really good. Hope it never changes.
What a lovely pub! We were walking in the area and chose The Donkey for our meal afterwards.
The food was excellent! I had the Chicken, Bacon and Avocado salad, which came with home made chips and was the best I have ever had! Absolutely delicious! And the added bonus was that the chef was a Brighton and Hove Albion supporter! Up the Albion!
The Pork Belly with fresh vegetables, Risotto and Fish and home made chips were also great so if you are in the area go there.
Lovely friendly staff too and 2 donkeys in the garden. Thanks to all concerned!

A beautiful, cosy pub with an amazing Sunday roast! Veggies cooked beautifully, and the meats cooked just right. The staff are all really lovely, too - all rushing around to make sure guests' needs were met. Myself and my partner managed to get in without booking, but the pub was quite busy, so booking is very much advised. We sat outside, and got a lovely view of the pub's two donkeys - Pip and Ben. All of the staff know about the donkeys, their history and their temperaments. These two sweet donkeys appear really well cared for - owners could be heard talking about veterinary care previously provided for the donkey they sadly lost in 2020 during a lockdown, specifying the importance of donkeys having a companion after one passes, and overall sounding really very knowledgeable. Me and my partner WILL be back!
This is a special pub, really special. I've been here a few times over the past few years, but having now moved to the area it's become a local and regular one we visit. The food is fantastic - freshly cooked, well presented, massive portions and well priced. The service is also top notch; every is incredibly attentive and friendly. Great selections of drinks as well.
Oh and the puddings are mind blowing. Especially the banoffee pie.
Such a lovely place. Delicious home made food, vast & superb menu, very welcoming and friendly staff with nothing being too much trouble.
We absolutely loved it.
The highlight of it all, was receiving a visit from their two resident donkeys. Misty & Ben I believe they're called, they just loved having their ears scratched.
We travelled from Swansea and had a lovely conversation with the owner over the history of the donkeys.
We will most certainly visit there again.
I highly recommend that you visit, you will not be disappointed.
Brilliant place. Front of house team wonderful. Mine Host, everything a Mine Host should be. Chef prepared an excellent meal. We shared the goats cheese salad and it looked like goats cheese (melting beautifully) surrounded by jewels the salad was so fresh.
Just loved it there and we will return.
Very friendly staff food 10/10
Value for money and portion size excellent. Quality of food. 10/10
Children dogs and disabled all warmly welcomed. We felt very well looked after and enjoyed our visit very much.
Thank-you
Perfect in every way. Lovely friendly helpful staff, good customer service and excellent food. The whole atmosphere is the best I have seen for a while. Just hope my son's loud chatter didn't spoil it for everyone else. We highly recommended this place
Excellent service and lovely food.
We had a relaxed Sunday Roast. Covid measures in place, we were still able to see the old donkey wonder in her pen. 2 mixed roasts, 2 cokes, 2 coffees and 2 desserts came to £73.
Super friendly and a lovely warm well run pub.
What a lovely, friendly pub. My daughter was doing her D of E expedition today and the staff at this pub kindly allowed her and her friends to use the toilets, refilled all their water bottles and offered plasters for blisters. We shall be returning the kindness by visiting for a meal soon and will ask friends and family to do the same. Please support this lovely business.
We have eaten here a few times. Lovely members of staff. And the food is great. Very child friendly too.
Lovely pub. Good food. Reasonable prices and healthy sized portions.
Definitely would describe the atmosphere here as a pub as opposed to a restaurant, so worth thinking about.
Fantastic country inn, with bags of charm and a corking menu. Super friendly staff and superb food. Very much worth the visit and we will return again to sample more delights. Extra bonus points for the cute and friendly donkeys!!
Whilst the pub seems a little tired, the effort put in by the staff was great for our family Sunday lunch. Big portions none of us could finish and good standard. Plus, you get to see a couple of Donkeys 🫏
So glad I finally went here. The food was fantastic, it's not the cheapest place but you get what you pay for. I had a steak sandwich with salad (forgot it's actual name), OH had a donkey sandwich. £8.50 each, chips £2.50. Well worth every penny, two huge chunks of steak on mine, the chips were massive, like roast potatoes. Lovely place, friendly staff, beautiful little country pub. Looking forward to going back and trying more food.
First time here. Lovely food. Good value for money. Kids loved the donkeys who were clearly well looked after.
Just had amazing lunchtime was amazing thankyou. Staff really friendly food gorgeous and plentiful. Will be back.thanks to my son Thomas we found this gem
Local pub hidden away with a nice sunny garden.
We had the Whitebait and deep fried squid for starters which were all delicious.
For mains we had the Newlyn Cod with Donkey fries and mushy peas. Fish was very fresh and the batter light and crispy.
Very good and thoroughly recommended.
Been here a few times and consistently good.
The local Hogs Back TEA (Traditional English Ale) is a must!
