The pub is just outside Tideswell on a busy road. The atmosphere was more of a chain style pub, rather than quaint local and the menu was very much pub fare. However we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, my scampi and chips came with a fresh salad and fresh peas and mange-tout, all well cooked. My wife's Italian chicken burger was also very good. The puddings appeared to be home made, with the lemon roulade being worth a mention. The service was friendly and although the meal took a while it was busy and was freshly cooked.
Stuffed mushrooms were nice, Cajun onion rings were awesome. Bean burger was a mock meat patty with beans though flavors were very nice. Vegan Cajun chicken was dry. Good with sauce. Ginger beer was from Fever-Tree.
We needed to leave our spot with our van because of some flood warning. Weather was bad, never ending showers, we decided to stop here.
Damn great place, people are really nice, food is great, the prices are good, the ambiance is warm with some nice musique but not too loud for once !
Definitely a great stop, we didn't think much before we took our chance and we even got to stay for the night in the car park, thanks again !
Enjoyed a family meal here, with 3 grandchildren, and 5 adults last night . The food was excellent and the service efficient and very friendly. The children enjoyed their kids meals of chicken nuggets or sausage and all the adults all left very clean plates !
I loved my steak and ale pie ( one of the best I've had) and the chips were just excellent ...so tasty. Husband enjoyed his belly pork with crackling.
Will definitely be going here again.
Had an absolutely amazing dinner, when visiting The Anchor Inn today, we were looking for somewhere last minute for dinner, called and was told they were able to squeeze us in, when we got there we were greated by some very friendly and helpful staff, which recommended some very delicious meals, I would definitely visit again 😊
Definitely a 5/5. To start, the staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. (They also seemed really happy at work, a concept I'm not overly familiar with).
The food was amazing. Well cooked and well presented. I was a little disappointed that we had no room for dessert.
Great selection of beers and dog friendly. You couldn't really ask for more.
Outstanding historic pub and Inn. Staff are very friendly and there are historical pictures on most walls. Was a real treat to visit a site of deep family history for us!
Great food - reservations recommended.
Wow what a wonderful place. Such a warm welcome and the food is so good. They had run out of chicken kievs but said they would happily make some more if we were willing to wait. The chips were gorgeous as was everything else. I wish we lived closer so we could become regulars. Anytime we are close we be eating here again. A true dog friendly place - I loved meeting their dog Bilbo. If you are nearby definitely give it a try
We was a camping family of 8 and decided to go here on speck in the hope of getting a meal without a booking on a Saturday early evening. We was given the Warmest of welcomes from the landlady and all members of staff. There was a new trainee who served us. She was brilliant and got all our orders for food and drink spot on. The food was amazing. So much so, we returned the next day for Sunday lunch. I Would highly recommend and will return again on our next visit.
Highly Recommend
We made reservations for 10 ppl, letting them know about the allergies in the group. They accommodated all of our requests and made sure that the kitchen was cleaned the night before and all the allergens identified were removed from the kitchen before we showed up.
The food and service was fantastic. I sadly forgot to take pictures of the Turkey Dinner and Christmas Pudding, but trust me - fantastic.
