Delicious food & drinks in tastefully decorated & comfortable surroundings. We were served by friendly & knowledgable staff who are passionate about the family owned business. We had a wonderful meal last Friday night & I would highly recommend a visit. We were lucky to get a table, so I would recommend booking to avoid disappointment.

On arriving at our cottage just outside Tideswell after an arduous Bank Holiday drive from London, my wife and I dropped into The Merchant's Yard for dinner. This beautifully renovated historic builders' merchant is an elegant and spacious establishment with excellent access for my wife who is a wheelchair user. The culinary delights on offer, and the hospitable service are second to none. The fare is proper nosh; not pretentious or minimalist, with emphasis on flavour and real quality. My wife's 8oz Rib Eye steak was wonderfully tender; and because my wife is on a very restricted diet, a glorious gluten-free and dairy-free beef reduction was specially prepared for her. My fish and chips with pickled egg, curry gel, tartare sauce and mushy peas was an absolute triumph. And I can safely say that I have never enjoyed this classic dish as much anywhere else. The Merchant's Yard is clearly a class act. Plans are apparently afoot to also provide boutique hotel accommodation. Its two AA rosettes are very well deserved. We shall no doubt be returning shortly. Alex Pearl is the author of 'Sleeping with the Blackbirds'

Beautiful building with a small menu, but perfectly suited for all tastes. Service is impeccable, the lad who served us is a real credit to the place, knew his stuff! I had scallops, a taste of lamb and then treacle tart, all surpassing my high expectations, perfectly cooked and wonderfully married with the best accompaniments, cannot recommend highly enough for a superb dining experience

The food was lovely and would definitely recommend. It would’ve been 5 stars but we felt rushed, food was brought out before we finished even trying our bread to start. We were seated at a very small table which wasn’t really large enough for the Sunday roast. Larger tables were available the whole time we were there, we didn’t ask to move as assumed they would be taken and it was too late by the time food/drinks/plates etc had been served. Would definitely recommend to prioritise Sunday roast diners on the larger tables.

Stayed recently on a two night walking break in the area. The place is absolutely fantastic, the staff are all friendly , professional and very helpful. The room was immaculate and the food at breakfast delicious. The cleanliness of the whole establishment is a credit to the staff, every area was spotless. Even the car park ! I would definitely recommend this place and will be back. Great place with fantastic food and professional service.

My friend and I had lunch here. The food was excellent, the best pork chop I have eaten - tender, succulent and full of flavour. Our server was great; pleasant and efficient. The ambience was relaxed. The surroundings were clean and well decorated. Will definitely recommend, a very positive dining experience

We stopped here for Sunday Roast and couldn’t be happier! I have a gluten allergy and there were many gluten free options. The roast chicken was fabulous…my daughter also had the nut roast which she said was equally delicious, both among the best we’ve ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection and the vegetable sides were fresh, tasty, and more than we could eat. The service was also excellent…all in all 10/10! Thank you for making our Sunday!

We booked Sunday lunch for four people, lovely place and extra special food with excellent service. We couldn’t recommend this place more and very reasonable priced. We will be going back again soon. *******

The Merchants yard is a lovely little cafe. Gorgeous interiors and amazing staff. I've been here twice. Ordered the mushroom toast both times, which is of the the nicest dishes I've ever had, followed by the Halloumi schnitzel which was also quite good. However, the second time I went, my friend and I decided to try their pizzas instead . Unfortunately this wasn't quite nice, the pizza base was uncooked in some places, and the sauce just didn't taste quite nice. The staff were kind enough to offer me a replacement or another dish and refunded the pizza price. Will definitely go there again , but just won't order another pizza.

Lovely atmosphere and excellent cocktail selection. Food was great but the portion of pork cheeks was really small. The lamb was tasty and the highlight for us

We stayed at The Merchant’s Yard over the King’s coronation weekend. What a fantastic place to stay! The reception staff were brilliant and couldn’t be more helpful. A very comfortable and well appointed room was matched by an excellent restaurant. A special mention to Gordon who looked after us over the Sunday and Bank Holiday breakfasts, being attentive and charming. We will definitely be back again to use The Merchant’s Yard as a base to explore the area further. Thank you to all the team.
