Had the fish platter and I must say I was in fish heaven thanks staff very friendly and helpful will definitely go here again
I love this place, great menu, incredible Fish and Chips, John and Jane (owners) I admire them very much. A must try place.
My wife & I go to here & the Jolly Boatman all the time, then a nice walk with our cockapoo along the canal. Good food at a good price. Have read some of the comments about dog poo & must admit I have never seen any in the garden area. I would say that this is irresponsible owners & is a problem anywhere. I am sure if the staff were made aware of it they would of cleaned it up. As usual the actions of a few dog owners spoil for the rest of us. Both pubs fantastic & hopefully will be able to continue to bring our dog.
The food was lovely and good portion.
The menu was good but of course on a Sunday we have roast. We were there with our two little boys. No actual play area suitable for toddler, garden isn't really big enough, but the toddler was safe enough running around the back garden. The back garden is walled in so no access to canal, access only out the front
Very well looked after, the food was lovely and the staff very helpful. I would eat here again. The menu was excellent. Thanks
Lovely pub, friendly staff, great food, beautiful scenery with lots of history.
By far the best roast dinner I've EVER had!!! Yum yum yum !!!
Fantastic food, friendly staff. Cannot fault our experience here this evening
Lovely location excellent food a friendly bar staff Just the job
As others have said, a great place for a meal and overnight stop on the motorhome. But make sure you can get in as a very small car park and not really anywhere to park on the road.
Rang up tonight at short notice and Grace got us booked in no problem at all.
Lovely pub and proper traditional meals.
We are down this way quite often so now we have found you we will definitely be back. A little gem in the countryside.
Biggest piece of cod I've seen in years. Top quality service and staff.
Thank you.
Friendly and helpful staff including Angel the greyhound. Excellent pub food and great value for money. Would definitely recommend.
Food is good old pub food - fish and chips/liver and bacon/scampi - nicely presented and big portions although it did take along time to be delivered to the table.
Staff really friendly especially the new bar person on her first day.
If you like dogs 🐕 you will love the pubs big greyhound that roams around the restaurant.
Atmosphere is casual with plastic table clothes and rickety chairs - we sat in the 'Morse Room' - the Derective series showing photos when they visited during the series.
Next to the lovely Thrupp Canal.
Would visit again but would allow time it takes for food after ordering - don't go if you are in a hurry.
A marvellous experience of a small country pub. We ate in the Morse room (used by the Inspector in an episode in 1989.). In the next room (the main bar), the local Irish band was having a practice, which was just incredible! Thank you.
Loved the location, friendly service, clean loos. Unfortunately no time to eat today, but we will be back!
Great Views.
Lovely food, only been there once and I enjoyed my snack. Only reason it was given a 4 star for food. We arrived not long after opening so was nice and quite and we sat in the bar area as had been walking and wanted to be somw where cool. So never saw any other part of the place, dog friendly which for us is a bonus.. The staff were very friendly and helped you if needed with choosing whats good . Will visit again for sure.

Four of us went for Sunday carvery. I don't eat meat so I had something else. When the others came back with their carvery I had food envy! The veg looked fab. Fresh and not at all overcooked or wilted from being under heat lamps. Red cabbage ( which is my favourite) lovely broccoli and Cauliflower. And a tasty cheese sause which was separate so you could have it or not , my husband was very happy as he loves cauliflower but hates cheese. Everyone said their meat was delicious, and the beef looked great, nice and pink and juicy. I pinched a couple of stuffing balls and they were yummy! Good service and a fabulous friendly atmosphere. 👍😋
You turned a pouring Sunday into a lovely afternoon with a wholesome, sumptuous Sunday Carvery, lovely ales, warm friendly owners and staffs, lively guests, and a beautiful Greyhound with the sweetest puppy eyes. Was bowled over by the spread of a feast! Honey baked ham slices, pork sausage, braised red cabbage with vinegar, crunchy savoury stuffing, roasted parsnips, baby potatoes, carrots... I'll let the pictures do all the talking!
Reservation is highly recommended which was really easy to do online.
I havent been here in nearly 30yrs but omg its amazing, the staff are great, the food is amazing, the portions are brilliant and the price ....... even more commendable!! Mixed with a very nice beer garden, you have an absolutely superb all round pub!! I didn't even mention the canal walks and views (only 30secs walk away) ..... see you again soon guys n gals
The Boat is a traditional country pub with a friendly Landlady & Landlord and a large greyhound called Angel. Large portions of good food are served and the St Austell brewery Tribute pale ale goes down very well.
Worth a detour!
We enjoyed a break from our journey and stumbled across this great pub. Tucked away but well-worth a visit. Really friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere with decent food promptly served.
The pub even has a "Morse" bar commemorating an episode which was partially filmed here.
Grace and her team went all out for our private function here. They were flexible and energetic. Food was lovely and the garden was a perfect setting for a big family lunch.
A lovely pub, serving great food, very popular. You will not be disappointed, fantastic, friendly service and a great setting by the canal.
Stopped in for a late lunch and had a lovely time! Regarding allergies, the manager was welcoming, friendly, helpful and reassuring - everything you want when eating out with allergies. Thank you!
A refreshing alternative to other pubs in nearby market towns. Reasons: high quality food with superb attention to detail (the fish and chips brown paper bag brilliant; the quality superb); good range of drinks (more St Austell please!), lots of indoor and outdoor space in period Cotswold setting and the best friendliest staff. Garden could do with a bit of very minor attention to take this to 5 stars. Highly recommended!
