Have driven past the pub many times over the years. The big red sign saying you can hire the whole pub has been putting me off. It is the equivalent of the massive sky sports banner seen on the outside of many sport themed establishments - this is a real turn off.
However a lesson has been learnt; never judge a book by its cover. The food quality was amazing. The lamb fell off the bone and was not at all fatty. The rump steak was decent. Over all portion size was more than adequate and good value. Friendly staff, good beers and actually got a white wine spritzer instead of wine and lemonade.
Lovely ice cold estrella on tap with nice outside seating available on warm days overlooking the canal, fantastic service with a smile from Sam and Charlotte very attentive to my small children. Fish and chips was pukka and served with all the condiments you could want!! Great establishment would recommend to all.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. Had a bit of a joke with them. The food , even though it was the end of carvery; was still hot. There was a choice still and they had brought fresh veg out. Also offered to make more gravy ( we didn't need it ).
Will go again.
We went to a private part here a couple of years ago ( wedding vows renewal after party). Was very nice then. Same great service and choice. Thanks team !
We were very hesitant about visiting here once we saw the Greene King sign (small, overpriced food portions) but once we were settled, we were glad we did. The pumps are Greene King but not the food. Result! The food is homemade and chosen by the landlord. I had the Cajun chicken burger and chips which was huge. Our friend had the pie of the day (Lamb, Mint and pea) which was also a substantial portion, while my wife had the lasagna which came with chips and decent garlic Bread. This was excellent and clearly homemade, unlike the pathetic effort that she had two nights previous at Beefeater.
The staff were great, really friendly and nothing was too much effort. The pub sits on the canal bank and it was a shame that it was raining as it would have been nice to sit, eat and drink right on the canal bank.
Our thanks goes to all the staff there. You're doing a great job. Keep it up.
Lovely spot by a canal with outdoor seating as an option (which we took). Staff very friendly and helpful, menu straightforward with good solid dishes to choose from. I had steak and ale suet pudding with mash, cabbage and carrot - it was really good. Lots of character to the building and a very nice location with good parking.
A cozy little place to grab a drink or some good food. We managed to sneak in just before the kitchen closed and had a light bite. Food was good, the place was clean and picturesque (literally right on the canal!) And staff were friendly, helpful and polite. Definitely a place to pop into, even to just relax and watch the world go by for a little while.
Beautiful riverside pub with great beer and classic pub fare delivered in huge portions.
Best thing about this was the location by the canal. Food was okay but nothing exceptional. Had booked a table for 8.45 and arrived on time just the be told that the kitchen was closing so we were rushed to order. Had booked beefeater originally but it was cancelled because their kitchen was closed. Not sure what's going on in the area. Never have this problem in Wales. We still enjoyed our meal outdoors. Interesting to see all the canal boats with people presumably living in them.
Excellent food, nice range of drinks.
Staff we're really friendly and useful. They went well beyond their means to accommodate us when we were running late on the boat. They were also very happy for us to entertain ourselves with our board games whilst having a drink.
Its a great location with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
Great atmosphere, staff very curtious and helpful, very reasonably priced, lovely view of the canal
Stopped off for a quick drink and a bite to eat whilst out walking the dog. Ordered a spiced chicken baguette with chips which came with a side salad. It was delicious and excellent value for money. We shared between 2 of us and had plenty each. Will definitely pop in again when out that way
I had the Fish n Chips, as I dont do carvery, it was amazing, the fish was massive and was still hot. My family had carvery and said it was ok, you are better booking early for carvery as they had no beef left after 1.15pm.
Great little pub with good service nice company
Great location right by the canal. Lovely sunny spot. Peaceful watching the boat's go past. Good choice of drinks and food, big portions. We had the Sunday Carvery and is the best that we have ever had. Would definitely recommend.
Very pleasant and friendly pub and restaurant. Choice of food is limited, but home made. Enjoyed our time there.
We hadn't booked, but as boaters we turned up on spec and they were able to accommodate us. A Greene King house so good ales and the meals when they came up were superb, hot, generous stuff, very naughty mash on my steak and Stilton pud too, awesome stuff.
Good food and great service. The food was special, and in fact, I have to look up many of the dishes I've never come across. I would definitely visit again when I come to Oxford again.
Great food and table service! Had a lovely time. Only downside is that they aren't allowed to make cocktails. But the food is truly amazing. I had the rump steak with stilton sauce and it was cooked to perfection. Waiters/waitresses are polite and friendly. I recommend this place!
