A BIG shout out to Keith and his fabulous friendly staff who couldn’t have made our first nights mini-break in the Lake District any more enjoyable! Lovely pub with fantastic food and the very best service. Couldn’t have asked for more, with the added bonus of us being able to bring our dog in with us. Definitely recommend this place, we will probably be back for dinner tomorrow and Sunday lunch on Sunday!! 5* for the new member of staff who started with you a few days ago too, he couldn’t have been more helpful! Thank you for giving us such a great first night here

Wednesday evening, 6.45 , starting to get busy. Staff found us a good table for two and brought drinks to table while we perused the menu. Great choice of meals. Not too long a wait for delivery despite obviously being prepared to order. Presentation of meals was excellent and taste and quality of food superb. I have never had a bad meal here and would highly recommend.

We call in here whenever we come to the lake district. Its the only place I know that serves all 4 Jennings beers on draft. Heaven. The food is really good and the service excellent. Would definitely recommend but booking ahead is a must

Fabulous Roast Beef dinner, absolutely delicious and excellent beef. What a lovely welcome from all the team here too; we were made to feel so welcome and valued. And it's dog friendly!! Definitely worth the short detour off the A66 for a bite to eat if like us you are on your way home after a long day of walking in the beautiful Lake District. Will definitely make this our stop off point every time now.

This place is beyond 'dog friendly'...3 big doggy water bowls outside and the waiter brought over doggy treats whilst us humans ate our lunch! Nice food, nice people...Daisy gives it the 'paws up'

Found this place by accident (Tom Tom took us to the nearest inn) and didn't regret it. Staff, beer and food all excellent. The staff very friendly and made us most welcome. Have a good looking wine list to explore too. The fact they can offer rooms is a bonus. Can't wait to come back.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and really enjoyed the pub. The staff were great, the food was good (although relatively pricey) and the range of beers was excellent. There are two reasons though why I can't give the full five stars - the first is that virtually all tables were reserved for food (even if they didn't yet have guests) leaving nowhere to drink if you'd not planned ahead. The second is that beers were served in pint glasses of different brands - small thing I know but this challenges me

The food here is so incredibly delicious we dined here 3 nights in a row, trying new parts of the menu every time. The braised lamb is particularly good. The portions are very hearty. You will leave absolutely stuffed. Staff are delightful, atmosphere is warm and friendly.

We had a wonderful stay for my wife's birthday - the staff couldn't have been friendlier! We were lucky enough to get an upgrade to a much bigger room with a beautiful, large bathroom with a roll top bath. Bed was very comfortable and the room was really nicely appointed with comfy chairs. Breakfast on both mornings was great and we also had a lovely meal in the pub on our last night. The location is stunningly beautiful, surrounded by peaks. On our first night we walked the old railway path to Keswick and took the bus back after dinner, which stops right outside the pub. Definitely a great location for hiking, with Blencathra right behind the inn. We will definitely be back at the Horse and Farrier on our next visit to the Lakes! :)

We came as recommended for the Sunday Lunch and weren’t disappointed. Portions were large including a massive Yorkshire pudding and the veggie option was delicious which isn’t always the case at some places. Would recommend.

The Horse & Farrier is a traditional small hotel around 3 or 4 miles from Keswick, either driving along the A66 or walking / cycling along a lovely disused railway which takes you to the centre of Keswick. The location is great for walking and Threlkeld itself is nice and quiet. The room we stayed in was perfect - spotlessly clean with a huge and really comfortable bed. The cost of accommodation is very reasonable considering that it includes a good choice of hearty breakfasts, and dietary requirements are well catered for. We had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant - the menu is a cut above normal pub fare but priced very reasonably. Service from all the staff we met was very good. All in all a very enjoyable stay, albeit a brief one. Would heartily recommend staying and eating here and will definitely be back.

Booking is advised, this place is busy on an evening! We were staying just down the road, so a 5 minute walk in the beautiful village of Threlkeld. The food was delicious ( chicken ballotine and Cumberland sausage). It was a busy Saturday but we had our food within 20 or so minutes . Table service was very good even when busy . Food prices I thought were spot on, not overpriced at all, very surprised actually, I was expecting it to be more expensive, definately worth it! Well done 👏

Called for lunch, nice place very clean good parking etc and the service was ok, we were shown to a nice table and drinks order taken straight away, food served after 20mins or so. Very reasonably priced for the area and by comparison to other similar establishments. I would visit again and I would recommend 👍

We actually stayed in the Sister hotel The Salutation, however all meals were served in the Horse and Farrier, both pubs are worth a visit , set in a quiet village Threlkeld on the fringes of Keswick at the base of Blencathra , so a really handy stopover with access to walking and trips around the Lakes especially Keswick, buses available on the doorstep. We had 2 single rooms which were spacious and comfortable with the usual facilities so all good there and a good bar downstairs which due to the time of year closed early, our meals were taking in the Horse and Farrier which were superb in choices for portion size and presentation along with taste and quality , the service was also 1st class along with the bar after our meal, thank goodness it stayed open lol , probably the time of year plus Thursday/Friday it was pretty quiet after 8pm, no matter its a very nice pub to sit drink and chat, would we go again yes most definitely.

Had a walk from Keswick and found this beautiful inn. Had two lasagna’s and a ploughman’s, exceptional. Dogs welcome, both had doggie sausages. Very warm welcome from the staff. A hidden gem.

In the pitch dark of an early March evening I hopped off the X4 / X5 bus between Penrith and Keswick, and called into this lovely country pub. Enjoyed a wonderfully warming Leek & Potato Soup, and a Half of Wainwright's Gold. Lovely warm location, great food and friendly staff.

Popped in whilst en route to Keswick, just off the A66. Both the steak pie and the fish and chips were very tasty, and so was the ale. Worth a visit, it's only about 10 mins further than the end of the Keswick railway path which is a lovely walk and would be made better with a visit to this pub. Recommended 👍🏼

Right in the centre of Threlkeld, this is an old English pub. Worth a visit, with a well stocked bar and nice beers. The staff are very warm. The place has an actual fire place which for me was the USP.
