Stopped over in a motorhome. Great walks from the pub. Tissington trail or dovedale. Food fabulous. Good ales and cider. Very quiet night only motorhome there. Book first and enjoy a meal if planning to stay over. Definitely recommend.
Thank you so much for an enjoyable evening. There's nowhere better than to suck up the afternoon sun, watch the calfs play in the field whilst enjoying the nicest pints of Blue Moon I've ever tasted. Food was delicious, we had a burger and a hot dog and they tasted great 👍. Easy access off the Tissington trail and code close enough to Thorpe Cloud. Staff are all very friendly and so accommodating - thank you.
Stopped in here after climbing Thorpe St Cloud and found a little table by the bar. Lots of tables reserved for lunch. Only had coffee and cake but the food menu looked delicious and wish we'd had time to try out some of the gins!

We stopped here for Sunday lunch after a lovely walk at Dovedale and before a long journey home. The pub was very busy with lots of very young children and dogs. The food was really good, but the service was very slow. The 'braised feather blade of beef' was absolutely delicious. The meat just fell apart and had taken on the red wine flavour. The rest of the plate was equally as good. Without hesitation I'd order that again. We had booked a table for 1:00pm and were prompt arriving. Our drinks order was quickly taken, and served - and we were promised that someone would shortly take our food order. The table had a second reserved sign for 2:30pm and so we were given 90mins for our lunch. When it got to 1:30pm and our order had still not been taken, we ordered our own food at the bar, and finally got our meals at 1:50pm - a full 50mins after arriving. Having learned, we ordered our own deserts at the bar, but by the time they'd arrived and been eaten it was 2:45pm. So our apologies to the next diners. If the pub wants to flip tables in 90mins then they really do need to get the food out onto the tables quickly. The pub has plenty of parking in two car parks, and also a large outside seating area which is partly covered.
After an afternoon in Dovedale with my partner we popped into The Old Dog. Great little pub. Nice atmosphere, clearly a popular destination. We had a vegan meal and it was delicious. Friendly staff, all very helpful with the occasional funny comment. Really enjoyed it here. Will definitely go back when we visit next time.
Came for Sunday lunch after a walk round Dovedale. Lovely food and friendly staff.
Was happy to know we cpuld bring our dogs inside with us and they even have a doggy menu!
Also impressed with the human menu as it is hard to find vegetarian/vegan Sunday lunches in pubs.
Four of us met for Sunday lunch. Were glad we booked a table previous day. Excellent service very helpful and friendly staff. We all had the sunday beef which was excellent, a huge beautiful cooked piece of beef with lots of veg nicely presented. Not the cheapest of meals but certainly value for money. Definitely be back again.
arrived 1:45pm on thursday, the place was almost empty. the free wifi did not work. staff were friendly. the lunch menu was limited. the fish was rather small in fish and chips. beef burger was juicy. the red velvet cake, £3.50, was ok.
This place was a gem of place, we weren’t even heading here, we were on our way to Thors Cave as we were at a bit of loose end and then we found this place and I’m glad we did.
The beers were lovely, the staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was well priced and filling. What’s not to love about this place, like I said a proper gem.
We look forward to coming back at some point, and sitting by the glowing fire.
Once again took a photo of the toilets as they were clean and a pleasure to go to. I also took a pics of their great cake selection and loved the decor.
Nice stop after a long walk at Dovedale. Large car park. Had a sandwich at lunchtime. It was tasty, but that's all you get. None of the usual crisps or the token salad. Excellent service and a nice log fire 👍
