If I could give 6 stars to this beautifully unique Norfolk gem I would. I found it 3 years ago en route home from the beach and was amazed by the deer in the surrounding park, the outstanding food and the contrast between the contemporary take on artworks and the character and history of the building and decor. Very clever and well worth an hour drive. This is hands down my favourite place to dine, they offer a bunch of beautiful wines and ales too. In the summer there’s a section of the restaurant that opens up so you are basically sat outside -in the evening there are blankets on the back of your chairs. The steaks and large cuts of meat are cooked on the huge open fire in front of you by a talented and very friendly chef. Every single thing I’ve eaten here so far has exceeded my expectations. The portion sizes are just right so that you have space for dessert. I always ensure to book about 2 months in advance to make sure I get a table because it’s so busy, and I recently I booked a table for 2 for my fathers birthday (however I didn’t tell anyone at Gunton this) on the evening, my father was amazed at the quality of the food having never visited before and the ‘lovely warm atmosphere’. Once we’d finished our mains, we were offered a special dessert which was not on the menu, and we asked for two. When they arrived, my fathers plate had ‘happy birthday’ written on it in chocolate and we were advised they were compliments of the chef (whom always comes to welcome me and say hello every time I’m there). They must have seen him opening my gift and card. We left feeling full, satisfied, and full of warmth. A great thank you to all fantastically well mannered staff, talented chefs and a clever and well thought out business. I cannot wait to return.

A laid back but yet professional restaurant/pub/hotel. It feels like the pub you’d always hoped was out there. Some of the best food I’ve had recently, done of it theatrically cooked in front of us on the wood fire. Cooked to perfection and to order. Exceptional place to stay, eat and recharge.

Great atmosphere nothing was too much for the staff to alter the menu when we asked. Best steak I've ever had and the pork chop was amazing too ( Shared each others) would definitely come again and highly recommend everything. Would like to stay next time as couldn't enjoy the range of ales and wines because of having to drive.

My first trip tonight and by accident, what a find, a truly unique setting and I have literally fallen in love with the place. The grounds and setting are stunning. The artwork was such a surprise and worth checking out. The lovely Manager who opened the gates especially for my 82 year old mum who can hardly walk. Fantastic service both in the bar and restaurant, food was delicious. I will be back, keep doing what you do as it's just delightful

Spectacular old hunting lodge set amidst broad open fields and oak groves, with plenty of deer. Could well be late 1700's. The elk antlers above the warm open fireplace, whilst fossilised, are enormous. The whole place has a genteel glow.

Lovely bar adjoining the restaurant with 4 ales on tap, and another 10 beers/lagers/ciders on tap too. Perfect place to compose oneself on a cold and rainy day.

Venison sausages with mash and onion gravy were awesome. So too the whole lobster with parsley butter - how better to celebrate a birthday. The lobster was incredibly fresh. Sides of tomato and basil salad, and chantenay carrots were tops. Nice bread and interesting butter on arrival too.

The eclectic art collection was impressive.

Particularly/overly attentive waitstaff only detraction. Oh, and the adjoining table with Tristan from "The Good Life" and his dog, he was pretty annoying 😎

Enjoyed a birthday dinner with my family. Amazing service. Great food, like really great, the rib of beef cooked over the fire by the head chef Stuart was phenomenal. Great beer and wine selection. Very good with one person in our party who had an array of dietary requirements. Set on beautiful grounds. Highlight of our trip. Will make sure to visit again when back in Norfolk.

Just popped in for a drink after a long day walking. Super friendly atmosphere with an old country style feel to the place. Dogs also welcome in the pub area. Pool and darts available too. Set in a deer park, very picturesque

We held my husband's 50th in the function room next to the main restaurant but was private too as you could close the doors for the speeches. Had the midweek chicken and beef rib feast for 21 people. Food was amazing - more than enough - taken lots of cheese home. Service was fantastic and lots of patience with a big group, We stayed in all 8 rooms in the main house which was also great as it felt like our house for the night! Watching stags out the window too! Really nice resident's lounge we could use after the meal. Thanks Gunton!

One of the most atmospheric pubs I've ever been to. Beautiful inside, and set in a delightful deer park. The staff were highly courteous and professional; our every need was catered for. We were a party of 7. All our meals were delicious, piping hot and served on time. Simply amazing.

Wow! What a wonderful venue and meal. The restaurant and bar are atmospheric with open fires throughout, one of which is busy cooking meat and goose fat potatoes. Best steak I've had in a very long time, potatoes and greens delicious. Sticky toffee pudding light but rich. Wine excellent. Great staff and very accommodating for my family. Deer visible through the window roaming around the open landscape. An absolute dream of an afternoon! Very high quality food and service which very much justified the cost.

Spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon here, for a very special late lunch treat. It is a truly magical place, set in the most beautiful parkland. We took a slightly wintry stroll before dinner across the parkland, taking in the sweeping country views, surrounded by countless deer. A very warm welcome was extended by the friendly team, for a cosy drink in the bar before heading through for our meal. The food was delicious, and cooked to perfection. We were made to feel relaxed and welcome by the whole team, who could not do enough for us, and stayed for most of the day! Hugely recommended, will definitely visit again.

Best pub I've been too... Yes it's fancy & is pricey but certainly worth it. Nice old school country pub vibes with great views, great beer & certainly great food. Only downside is that it's 4 hours away from where I live!

Ate here with family. Lovely pub, great atmosphere and not as busy as some of our earlier visits, which made it a bit less frantic. Food was hearty, puddings were delicious. Artworks of course are eye-catching. Recommended.
