This little town of Thirsk is pretty quiet...but along the Market place are numerous business' and even a couple hotels. Its dinner time, what to eat...CHINESE...!!!
While this establishment is open only at select times of the day...it must be popular...as not only did i wait outside in the rain...so did a dozen other people...so, why no recent reviews?
There is a dining room with a number of tables for those wanting to dine-in...but I wanted take-away ("to go") that I could enjoy at my leisure in my hotel room...in front of the TV.
I was greeted by the nicest lady, who took my order...
1. Hot and Sour Soup
2. Pork Chop Suey
3. Char Sui Foo Yung, which also included Egg Fried Rice at 30p extra
I perhaps waited only 15-minutes or so...back at the room, opened up my meal. First, no styro foam containers (this is a good thing)...each dish was packed nicely in foil containers which not only assisted with spill control in the bag, but most importantly it kept my food HOT (this is a good thing).
Lets just offer an observation...Chinese food in the UK is not the Chinese food you may experience in America...or even China...but it was more than acceptable, and was quite enjoyable.
First, the Hot and Sour soup appeared to me as having a more tomato base than I have experienced before...similar to a bisque consistency. WOW, what a wonder flavor, while having the spice edge that I like, there was also a lite sweetness...I liked this very much.
Following was the Pork Chop Suey. Absolutely perfect, with a good mix of meat, sprouts, onion, carrot, etc.
Also included tonight was the Char Sui Foo Yung. I thought that I knew what this dish was, but it was prepared much differently here than at home. First it is notable to say this is not a greasy fried egg foo young pancake as you would find in America...in fact, this isn't fried at all, and it is not smothered in gravy. The make-up of the dish is egg, pork and peas...perhaps another ingredient or two. This was a surprise, but, what a good tasty surprise.
Contrary to the reviews by others...I had great service, prompt and courtesy acknowledged. My food was perfect...hot, tasty...very enjoyable. And the cost...quite acceptable.
It should be noted that this business was established in 1965...this is a local family operation, not a commercial corporation from London...these are your friends and neighbors, show your support, they deserve your business. When I travel back this direction...yes, I will stop in, say hello and experience another wonderful meal.
Best Chinese in Thirsk without a doubt. The food is fresh, tasty & consistent.
Have been a regular customer for years and will continue to be for many more to come. I can honestly say I've never eaten a bad meal here, neither in the restaurant or a takeaway.
Great Chinese. Staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome.
Food portions are generous and very tasty. Nice atmosphere and not too busy. Tables were clean.

It was a birthday treat from my daughter & son-in-law & close family .it was a brilliant evening.the staff were brilliant and the service was excellent. All the food was excellent could not fault the anything a big thank you to all.DAVE would definitely recommend

Amazing food and service. Quality is just as good as back home!
What a lovely restaurant. The owners were superb, made my children comfortable, and were so friendly. The food is one of the best Chinese food I have had. The duck was a highlight. Well trained staff, with an atmosphere of pride.
Been eating here for 25+ years and never yet had a bad meal .

My wife and I ate here an hour ago, we had wonton soup, Salt & Pepper ribs to start which were excellent with Chicken & Seasonal Vegetables with Crispy Beef in Hot fruity sauce and Chicken fried rice. All the food was fresh & flavourful, it was hot and cooking perfectly, my wife and I are not locals but are learning our way round, we had to say it was the best food we have had, the staff were polite, kind and could not he any more accommodating. We would highly recommend! And also the takeaway side constantly had customers collecting so what more proof is needed at how good it was here, just try for yourselves and you won't be disappointed!
Popped in for an impromptu dinner and didn't regret it. Crispy duck was delicious and the chicken curry was beautiful, great flavour and texture unlike some I've had before.

Good. Cook came out to check we were happy . Nice touch. Health inspector was there random check. Looked like all was good from what I could see.

Just bought our first Chinese in Thirsk as we've not lived here very long. Omg special curry was to die for, no fatty meats, no rubber boiled chicken and the curry sauce was yummy. I'd definitely recommend this place and this will be our regular from now on.

What a lovely find. We were on our way to a pub nearby for dinner when we smelt the irresistible waft of Chinese food. Had a quick peek and decided to give it a go.
This is a great little place with excellent staff who are wonderful, the food is also spot on! Had the green tea and various dishes, all were superb.
We ordered king prawn fried rice and chicken in lemon sauce while on holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed it & very reasonably priced. Owners polite & helpful.
Will definitely be coming back here when we stay in the area again
Always a satisfying meal from Hung Moey. I’d recommend the salt & pepper chicken, crispy shredded beef and side chips. The side fried rice is better than most takeaways, in my opinion. I didn’t enjoy the side noodles as the one time I ordered - it smelled faintly of old cooking oil. Aside from that, this is a reliably tasty place to get Chinese takeaway.
