Lovely pub friendly efficient staff and a full gluten free menu which is a miracle, the pavlova was delicious I could have eaten it again !!
We had the reception for my daughters christening here and I cannot recommend this pub more highly. Julia the manager was amazing and helped us organise the details and on the day took care of everything so we didn't need to worry. They were very welcoming to the children that attended and nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely and was very reasonable; it's a great venue for a celebration if you wish to hire a room or just to go for a pub lunch or dinner. Thanks again! Xx
Brilliant service and great food. Been visiting this pub for many years and never been let down. Great helpfully staff
Lovely pub. Good outside seating area and the staff are friendly. It has great food. I have been before and will definitely go again.
First visit on Sunday for my birthday with a group of friends - atmosphere, service and food was wonderful, thank you very much. We'll be returning again very soon!
Great pub, lovely roast, massive portion. Will be returning
Booked a table for my wifes 40th last night. Food was absolutely lovely, all had something different and all thoroughly enjoyed it. 1st class service from the staff. Will definitely be returning.
Thank you :)
We were a party of 15 seated in 'The Study' on Tuesday lunch. Our food was hot, delicious and our waitress was excellent, not to mention patient as it's difficult to organise a large group. I Would highly recommend :D
very good service no rushing polite and friendly staff a good country atmosphere
We like this pub but had a mixed experience when we went for Sunday lunch today. Three of us had ordered the winter caeser salad which said it came with kale,
Baby spinach, roasted butternut squash, red onion, puy lentils, sourdough croutons and Caesar dressing, for £13. I added halloumi for an extra £3. The added halloumi was fine but the base salads were very small when they came up, and there were about 4 small (less than 1cm cubed) pieces of butternut squash on each. We queried with our waitress to see is this as it should be. She took one of our plates away and went to check with the chef and came back to say yes they were as they should be. She did then say she would give us an extra salad on the house to share between us, which meant we didn’t leave feeling too aggrieved, but it did make me think don’t ever order a salad there again as they seem to think a measley portion of leaves and vegetables and lentils is fine for £13! Tasty but avoid. Good service though from our waitress who didn’t then dodge us for the rest of the meal but instead came back to check on us and make sure everything was ok.
Lovely local pub, with cosy spots, good food and service. The girls were really helpful and sweet. Relaxing dinner after a stroll in beautiful Epping Forest.
Good food and the service was rapid! Dog-friendly with inside and outside seating options. Unfortunately the car park was almost full, finding a space was a challenge and some of the spaces aren't quite car-sized but once we got in, our visit was pleasant.
A welcome pub on a hot day and dog friendly. Good size roast dinner but the potatoes could have been crispier and a little more cooked. Served quickly though. They had run out of dog ice cream but had alternative snacks. Good veggie options for my friend. We had an enjoyable lunch
A very nice surprise for having vegetarian friendly pub food.
Calories are included on the menu which is a very nice touch.
Portion sizes are inconsistent with chips, starter and desert were of perfect size!
The place itself is very spacious and has a very nice atmosphere.
Starter: 4/5
Main: 2/5 (chips on the side 4.5/5)
Desert: 5/5
Starter was very very nice and very enjoyable.
The vegetarian burger was not terrible, it was better than expected of veggie burgers, but a few issues: buns were toasted (buns were coloured) but were cold themselves, like they came out of the fridge. Burger overall was rather dry and tall making it hard to eat. Pattie was fine and actually better than alot i find but by itself it was not enough.
What was really nice were the chips. They were most excellent, crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. Chips brought back this. Very well done.
But the real star was the desert, the crumble was one of the best i have ever had and i generally dislike custard but the whole thing was most excellent. If you like a great crumble, its well worth a trip just for the starter, chips and that alone. Very very impressive.

Good veggie burger and great terrace. I visit the pub after hikes in Epping Forest.
Ryleigh was friendly and welcoming. She chatted to us as we placed our order and always had a smile on her face and was a fabulous waitress.
Thank you to Paige for making our visit so nice. You were friendly and accommodating to our dietary requirements! Very impressed with the food will definitely be coming back!
We had visited the Queen Victoria many years ago and loved it and as the opportunity arose to meet family passing through the area this weekend we took a punt on it being good still and booked in to have lunch. Turned out to be an excellent idea!
The food is delightful, good portion sizes, lots of choice and tasty. Think it's the first place I've had halloumi fries where they've stayed hot because they have the sense to serve them in a hot tapas type dish.
The main event for me was the beef shin and ale pie - one of the nicest pies I've ever had with plenty of fresh veg and a hearty serving of mash and gravy.
We actually skipped dessert because they were running a Macmillan Coffee Morning cake stall and so for a donation we tucked in to delicious home made cakes instead.
Food aside, a pub/restaurant is not a place without its staff and there is a noticeable difference to the places we usually visit in more central London zones. The team are friendly, helpful, and run like clockwork. Wish more places had a team like them - big shout out to Petra and the young guy in her team for looking after us!
It has a sizable outdoor seating area and a car park, though it's only a 5 min walk from the tube station.
As you can tell, I am a fan and would not hesitate to recommend visiting. Had I not had kids as part of the party meeting up then I would have loved to have settled in to their lovely bar area for a drink, it looked very comfortable!
This was our first visit to the Queen Victoria in Theydon Bois and I can honestly say that it won’t be our last. We’d been wanting to come for a while and on Sunday we finally had the chance. The result was very positive with great food , good service and a very friendly atmosphere.
The pub is situated in the heart of Theydon Bois with ample parking at the front and rear. As you enter there is the bar area on the right with the dining room with table service on the left. But you can actually eat anywhere including outside. When we arrived we received a nice friendly welcome before we were shown to our table. We then ordered a drink while we looked at the menus to which there was a choice of the main menu as well as the addition of a selection of sunday roasts.
We decided to start with a selection of crusty bread which came with balsamic , olive oil & butter.
For our starters we chose the Stilton Pork Pie accompanied with watercress & piccalilli as well as the Posh Whitebait with smoked paprika , homemade tartare sauce , crispy kale & lemon. These were to delightful dishes and a great way to begin.
Now it was time for our roasts. My wife chose the Slow Roasted Lamb Shank. For myself i chose to have the Hand Carved Roasted Sirloin of Beef. The roasts came with braised red cabbage , seasonal vegetables , roast potatoes , yorkshire pudding & gravy. You could also add items to your roast and I just couldn’t resist so opted to add cauliflower cheese & pork loin to create a monster of a roast dinner.
It was now time to finish with two fabulous desserts and for these we chose the Salted Caramel Profiteroles with chocolate sauce and the Apple Crumble Tart with oats , cinnamon & vanilla ice cream.
We finished with a coffee to bring to an end a great sunday lunch. The food was very good and was matched by friendly service from all the staff but especially our waitress Natalie who was excellent and a credit to the hospitality industry. I would definitely recommend a visit and are looking forward returning again soon to try the food from the main menu.
Many Thanks to all the team for a fabulous lunch and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Had lunch with a friend. We had 4 sharing dishes which were very good and enough for us. Chilli chicken in particular was lovely. Feta with honey and sesame, Burrata with cherry tomatoes and chicken in buttermilk, all very nice.
Beautiful pub and very tasty food.
Very attentive and helpful waitress, Petra, who made our experience even more enjoyable.
Cosy pub and perfect place to end a ramble around Epping Forest. We came in late on a Sunday afternoon, sopping wet from the rain. The pub was very busy but service was really good and efficient. The waitresses found us seats immediately and made sure we had everything we needed. We all had the Sunday roast and it was excellent (coming from a picky eater with high standards, this is high praise). I also enjoyed my pint of McMullen's bitter - it had a distinct aftertaste of shortbread cookies!
Great Sunday roast as always. By far my favouritest pub ever. The lamb shank was amazing and the staff friendly and helpful. 5/5
Allowed our dog to be able to join us and just made our first outing with our Dalmatian easy and pleasant while serving a lovely meal .
Thankyou
Yeah, it was good, great roast, all the extras you can order, prompt service & our roast was served quickly. Even the price of the roast was reasonable. The only issue, & I know this is normal, was the price of drinks. One of our party has a large white wine, which was £10.00. Next time I'll just buy a bottle I think.
Lovely pub and excellent Sunday roast. Highly recommend after a good walk in the forest. They had run out of some of the side dish options but had delicious back ups available.
No complaints, been coming here off and on for the last few decades due to it being near the Theydon Bois station which I use to travel to and from work.
It's my go to when in the area and is the best pub around I feel.
Great Sunday roast options, lovely beer garden for when the weather is nice
Theydon Bois is a great destination for walking in Epping Forest (Central Line Station) followed by a visit to the Queen Vic for a Sunday Roast. Great food & beers, really friendly, it was busy Sunday afternoon but plenty of staff serving, food was excellent.
