What a lovely, friendly pub. Staff are attentive and polite and there is a really great atmosphere in there no matter what time of day you go in.
An absolute MUST is the steak ... especially Thursdays, 2 steaks for £16. You might think that because it's cheap you should be wary ... absolutely not! We've eaten in some really expensive places and the steak at the Shep's is 100 times better than any of those places! It's always cooked the way you want it and the quality of the meat is amazing. It's always tender and melt in your mouth! The knife just glides through it.
The other thing we'd recommend is the chilli nachos .. AMAZING! Just the best around. Nothing over priced either. Just good quality at affordable prices.
If you haven't eaten at The Shepherd's Rest recently, give it a go. Forget all the trendy restaurants that have opened up in the town centre ... we've tried most of them and they aren't all that! We would choose this pub over any of them! Highly recommended for any occasion.
Fabulous service in a lovely pub. Have been there today with my 7yr old Grand-daughter and my 4yr old Grandson and hubby :) . The food was piping hot and delicious. My Grand-daughter ate an adult meal of scampi !!! We all enjoyed our meals and would highly recommend The Shepherds Rest to anyone who likes a FAB Sunday lunch :) .
A great pub with friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Although we have lived in the area for years, have only recently started to frequent the Shepherds. This is a typical case of not realising what’s on your own doorstep! Oh and the food they serve is delicious 👍

Went there on Friday for Tina turner tribute. One of the best times we’ve had in Taunton for a looong time. If you ever want to go anywhere then keep an eye on these guys here !! They always have something for everyone.
Great family pub. Dog friendly. Lovely outside covered areas. Ample parking. Comprehensive good value menu. Wishing the new landlord and landlady, Carl and Heather all the very best.
Got here 10 mins before food orders were not accepted on a Sunday and we're offered only 2 types of roast. They went totally above and beyond on a table of 4, 4 dogs and a baby. Cooked us dishes off menu for a Sunday and accommodateted all of us. The chef was brilliant and the bar staff fantastic. Bookmark this venue for sure.
Had lunch here today, our first chance since Simon came back as chef. As always the food was well cooked. Sadly,at the moment, the menu is set by Green King so it lacks the originality we have enjoyed here in the past. We will be back again.
Very friendly, helpful and polite service. We just had fish & chips and a veggie burger, the menu is quite basic but it was very good, generous servings and very reasonably priced, the two meals with a pint of lager came to less than £30!!

Great food and family friendly (we're a couple with 1 young teenager and 1 small kid). Not expensive at all for the quantity and quality of food we had.
