It is a new bar on the first floor of the Premier Inn hotel. The full English breakfast is only £10 and anyone from outside is welcomed. The things I like. The food is overall good, but some days they have a chief who has no idea how to cook. Every time he is on shift, the food is terrible. I was staying in the hotel many times and before the food was always good. It seems that he is working recently and the good is taste awful when he is there. He just turn the food into the garbage. He overcooked my eggs. He didn’t put butter to mushrooms. The tomatoes are look saggy. It is very bad reputation to this bar because of that new chef. I hope he will be fired snd a good person will be put in place.
This restaurant is a new version of the restaurants you find attached to a premier inn, with the option when stopping in a room to add the meal deal option of breakfast and dinner. This is a very welcome change to as the food at the restaurant wad very tasty. The calamari, steak and sample dessert platter were really tasty and very good value for money.
The kebab options also looked very good and a healthier alternative.
Didn't take photos of the breakfast but it was the usual you find at the premier inn
What can we say about our experience at the Bar+Block……
Jess gave us a warm welcome and some great recommendations for the 2-4-1 cocktail offer. Needless to say we indulged and wasn’t disappointed.
Had the 12oz Ribeye with dirty fries, with side order of Mac cheese. Wow!!!
Team leader Jess is a credit to the business. Fabulous service and hospitality.
Would highly recommend.
I was about to come and try this place for a long time, but the 3.5 stars kinda put me off and wasn't sure if I should give it a go.
Luckily when I found out they offer a set menu for only £15 per person I though I must go, even if it's really average I wouldn't loose much money.
Now as I and my partner went there today and tried the set menu I can say for sure that we'll be returning soon.
I had the korean BBQ chicken wings which was good portion for a starter and tasted very nice, it was sweet and a bit spice too. My partner went for the mac'n'cheese bites and it was loaded with cheese, really good too.
As a main course I aimed for a steak sandwich, which was okay. It was tasty, but the steak was a bit chewy and it was put in the sandwich as a whole piece, so I sliced it up for myself. It wasn't the best option, but I just wanted to try a simple, but steaky dish.
On the other hand my partners upgraded Sirloin steak was juice and tasty. The fries were included in the dishes so were small portion of salads which were lovely.
The puddings were nice too, I had the Eton Muss Sundae and my partner got the brownie. Both were absolutely delicious and overall the whole meal was a win win.
We were lucky enough to wash everything down with espresso martinis, as by the time we finished the 2 for 1 cocktails were on offer.
Overall everything was over my expectations. Service was very good too, Danielle took great care of us and she was very nice and confident.
Even tho there were very few people in the restaurant the atmosphere was good too. We really enjoyed our time there and we're happy we gave it a go.
Stayed at the premier Inn attached to the restaurant so had the meal deal of evening meal and breakfast twice, thought the food was well cooked and well presented also the staff were pleasant and attentive
Lovely staff. Steak was more well cooked than “medium”. Fries weren’t salted which is ok for people who can’t consume salt I suppose, and fortunately salt available was on the table. Lovely Tiramisu Martini. Mango & Passionfruit Mojito was good but could have been mixed more thoroughly beforehand. Wanted to try their Onion Rings but they didn’t couldn’t swap out the chips for it (even though both of them are the same £4 price) because it will mess up their stocks (I was informed). Overall an OK experience but a little short of the mark for the price.
I went here for Father’s Day and I deliberately didn’t check out the menu before hand . Located just behind the main shopping high street you wouldn’t have thought much until you get inside . It looks really cool .It is very spacious and airy . There is a massive bar and a mixture of seats and booths . The staff were great. Full of energy and knowledge about the menu. The kids ordered the Mac ‘n’ Cheese bites and the burger , both with fries 🍟. They loved it but the only weird thing was the burger was only half a burger. Not only odd in appearance but you my boy felt cheated . Where is the other half daddy?? I ordered the Spiral Rub eye steak with seasoned fries. The steak was well cooked to my requirement of medium rare . The fries were not seasoned though. You know you pay extra. I am all for saving costs but please…🤣. We also had a nice surprise with a massive beer glass and a bottle of alcoholic cider …for free. ! 👍🏾We didn’t realise and left the beer glass. 🤣All in all it was a nice experience but was let down on the basics when it came to the food. The prices were ok …a week later and I am not sure if I would recommend it …I will go back and give them another go and write part 2 .
Went to restaurant 11th October 2023 for my birthday and wasn't disappointed. Food and service excellent, thank you Ty for fantastic service. Lovely decor too. Would definitely recommend. Can't fault and that's why I have given 5*
Went lunch time so although other diners in there, I would assume it would be busier evenings and weekends!
Visited here recently with family without a booking. Jessie, our waitress greeted us warmly & showed us to a table, explaining several dishes were temporarily not available due to certain items not being delivered & also advised us of being short staffed with only 1 chef on duty.
Whilst we did wait a little longer than usual for our meal, this was more than worth the wait, as Jamie (chef) had cooked & presented each of our dishes beautifully, to perfection. During the wait, it gave us chance to enjoy a very fine glass of red wine. We were advised that if wanted to try the venue's sumptuous Christmas menu, we'd need to book as items are ordered specially - we will be doing so as can't wait to try Turkey Ballotine with all its trimmings. Thank you Bar & Block, we will return to your lovely restaurant.
Visited again bank holiday 18/04/22 & had Rump Steak with Triple Cooked Chips & Peppercorn Sauce. Asked for medium rare done steak which is exactly what I received. (A good point is regardless of which chef is working, steaks are cooked consistently as per customer's request.) Waitress very friendly & service good.
Previous visit:
Great looking steakhouse with many separate eating booths to allow for privacy. (Located where previous Bowling Alley /Laserquest used to be & next to Premier Inn). Food excellent & wine recommendations added to menu for each steak; a good idea.
Had 8oz Ribeye with Samphire, Green Peppercorn Sauce & Triple Cooked Chips, which was cooked to perfection; other family members had Classic Burger & Fries, all of which lived up to expectations. Can choose size of steak, sauce & sides. Puddings naughty but delicious. Galina, our waitress was lovely & provided a quick, efficient & friendly service, as did Andrea on another occasion when chose Cod in Beer Batter with Triple Cooked Chips. Will visit here again, superb food.
First time visiting this restaurant and definitely wont be the last.
Definitely deserves more than the 3.6 stars that show on google reviews. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
As for the food... our steaks were cooked perfectly. Very tender and full of flavour. We found it great value for money for quality food .
Well worth a visit for a good steak.
An amazing space for work during the day with a fresh drink beside you.
Has some amazing cocktails and the best thing its 2for 1 from 5pm to 7pm
Bar & Block deserves more than it's 3.5* average rating, we'd definitely go back! We had an excellent meal - we ordered 2 X 8oz sirloin steaks with chips and their 3 for £10 sides (mac n cheese, garlic spinach and king prawns). "Marta K" was an amazing host/waitress, even though she had all the tables to cover, she went the extra mile for us by being super polite, took our orders quickly and found a quiet area for our baby. MANAGEMENT SHE IS A HUGE ASSET TO YOUR FIRM, DON'T LET HER GO!! And every element of the food was super tasty, so kudos to the chef too! The decor is lovely & modern too. Returning visit.
Went in november when Bar + Block had just opened. The evening was a disaster. Meal for 10,orders came one at a time over an hour period ten of us only 6 meals had arrived with 4 being incorrect.
So I put that down to the company not the management nit training staff correctly and chefs were not qualified to work in a primary steakhouse.
So 6 if us have now returned 2 months later to give the restaurant a second attempt.
We pre booked for an early Saturday( 4 Jan 2020)
We were welcomed by the manageress Olive and shown to our table by our waiter Dani (very warm and friendly Italian man)
A couple of starters were ordered after our drinks order was quickly taken and served.
Scallops with chive mash were perfectly cooked, along with salt and peppered squid.
Mains obviously were steaks and one surf and turf(a very well prepped lobster tail)
My fillet as requested was rare with a good sear and arrived exactly as requested, others had a medium and medium rare fillet and one mixed steak option .
All prepared and served promptly and together cooked superbly.
Sides were garlic mushrooms, sweet potato fries and triple cooked fries.
All good but you can tell machine restaurant supplier for the fries/chips .
Dani the section waiter was always between his tables checking in that all his clients were satisfied with meal, drinks, etc.
The manager came over also with a couple of cocktails she had herself prepared as one as she stated hadn't been made for a while so wanted to make one personally.
After the desserts were ordered the chef even came over to check in that steaks were all as requested.
Desserts were a crumble, sticky toffee pudding, and chocolate bomb(restaurants most popular)
Good size portions lovely fruit crumble and very good rich chocolate desserts, churros.
We found out since our first visit some staff and chefs had been replaced which showed through 100% in atmosphere and meal quality.
I would definately recommend giving Bar + Block a try but do note the get very busy later into the evening.
I thanked our waiter manager and chefs(I as always say thanks to the actual cooks as at the end if the day they are the staff who prepare your food)
Superb eatery very much improved.
My fillet was one of the best I have enjoyed eating.
Visited for first time this week. The steaks were really good! The service was excellent. Even though it was very busy, Jad was attentive and customer focused throughout the evening.
