We returned back yesturday after going a couple of months ago, this time for there "Famous Sunday Roast" and were blown away how fantastic the meal was, huge portion of QUALITY meat, veg and massive HOMEMADE Yorkshire puddings like your nan/mum does!!!!! Also we took our 9 month old twins and the place couldn't be more friendly for this the table was set up great already for our arrival and the girls loved the beautiful rear garden after the meal and the amazing childrens park behind the pub, anyway really recommend the place and will be returning with all our family next time ...keep up the amazing work guys!!!!

Sunday Lunch after a nice leisurely drive. Actually travelled over an hour to sample this place after a short visit with friends a month ago. Super friendly staff. Food was perfect given choices of how we would like the rib eye of beef cooked. Deserts were equally as good and great choice of wines. Will certainly return

Steak night was great: two tasty steaks with a good bottle of rosé for only £25 - a bargain! Also couldn't resist sticky toffee pudding & apple crumble with lashings of custard. They had a singer on called Tax: he looked a bit like Ed Sheeren without the ginger, and sang some quite difficult songs superbly albeit a tad loudly for my liking. Nevertheless, this ended up a brilliant night of good food & enjoyable entertainment for a grand total of just over forty quid for ALL our drinks & food (total- not each!!). No wonder the place was packed! PS We'll be back next Thursday although my better half says we might come next Wednesday for their curry night!!

We are staying just a few miles from here and so I thought that it would be nice to have a Sunday roast out at a pub. This one was recommended to us by the owner of the place where we are staying. I'm very glad we booked as when we turned up, the sign outside said fully booked. We were shown to our table. And from then on the experience got better and better. The service was first class. And within half an hour the pub was absolutely full. And it was clear why as not only was the service excellent as I have said but the food was really excellent value for money. We both had a starter and drinks. I had the homemade soup which was tomato and basil and my wife had the garlic mushrooms. To follow, my wife had the roast pork loin and I had the roast beef which was done rare (the 3rd choice was chicken). After we ordered, the waitress was taking another order from the table from our left. Overhearing that you could order extra veg and meat, we both did ( there were not enough Yorkshire puddings left) and when the roasts turned up I can say that we took a gamble and won. Everything on the plate was well seasoned and tasted absolutely lovely ( you can order smaller plates for £9pp) and as others have commented here, an extra gravy boat arrived without having to ask which was a very good idea. After the 2 courses my wife and I decided that we'd go the whole hog and have dessert. I had the sticky toffee pudding and my wife had the warm chocolate fudge cake. We both had the ice cream with it. Again another plate of scrumptious food was served. All in all a great dining experience. We will definitely be back.....customer service done properly and scrumptious food 10 out of 10.

Good simple honest and hearty food, with great friendly service to match !!! I'd cycled 100 miles that day and he sat me next to a radiator so I could put my gloves and helmet on it whilst I ate, facing the window so I could keep an eye on my bike... Just thoughtful !!! Fab :) will definitely go back if I'm in the area !!!

Delicious food in a homely setting. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and very accomodating with some of our groups strange requests! The landlord was very friendly and spent time chatting to us. They even brought a small bowl of sunday lunch meat out for our dog to enjoy. Highly recommended.

We were staying close by a couple of weeks ago and found this place online and thought the menu looked fabulous. The service was brilliant from Neil and all the other staff as well. The steak was fantastic best ive had in a while and the wine included on the meal deal was lovely too in fact I've since found it locally so I can enjoy it at home. Would definitely recommend and when we're back over in September will happily revisit for another meal. Thank you for a lovely evening Edit. Came back again and the food and service was impeccable! Thank you so much for a brilliant evening. The service is the best I've had! Thank you again

A truly wonderful experience. Friendly staff, amazing atmosphere and decor, great food. I was really impressed with the decor in the pub, including the little room up the stairs, the conservatory area, and the tent out back. Lots of friendly, homey colours that were welcoming and classy at the same time.

I visited this pub 5 years ago on a trip around the North. I had wanted to visit the site of the WWII bomber base (RAF East Moor) where my dad was stationed as a Canadian airman during the war. I knew there wasn’t much to see there, but I wanted to experience it anyway. After going to East Moor, I took a stroll around Sutton-on-the-Forest and stopped at the Rose & Crown for a pint. It was mid-afternoon and I was the only person there but the man serving was very good. I love the traditional pub atmosphere and I’m sure my dad drained a few here in his youth. It was worth the trip. I had the opportunity to discuss my trip with my dad before he died about 6 months later.
