My favourite place to eat in Surbiton! The staff are so friendly, and we’ve always had wonderful service. My favourites for a weeknight comfort meal are the kitsune udon, and the fried chicken curry udon. I also love the takoyaki and chicken karaage, both of which are so full of flavour and taste hot and fresh. For a special dinner, the sushi boat is incredible - such a huge variety of different sushi, presented well, and amazing value when you’re eating as a couple or in a group. Comes so quickly, with salads and miso soup. To finish off, drinks like sake and plum wine are reasonably priced. A real gem in Surbiton, with unpretentious and relaxed interior. Speedy service when dining in, and food still tastes fresh when delivered to nearby.

We went to the Boat with our son and wife, who had recommended it. Very pleased they did, as the food was very tasty and service was very good. We will definitely be going back.

I have been going to boat for nearly a year, being in a long distance relationship, every time my partner comes to visit we go have lunch at boat once or twice, food is so amazing we’ve made it our little tradition to go every month, I could not recommend it more, amazing people and incredible food!!

I've been here twice now, the second time was much better than the first time, the overall options are a lot, and the quality is good, if you fancy Japanese food in Surbiton this can be a good option. They are also dog friendly.

Always come for lunch or dinner once a month when I'm in the area for work. Delicious and authentic Japanese cuisine, I've been trying to find decent sushi and finally have at the Boat! Staff are super friendly and prices reasonable. Good value for the quality.

Great food and prompt service. We ordered a takeaway today which was excellent. The prawn udon was tasty, although a little short on prawns however the sushi set was great especially the crispy California rolls. Certainly a place we will go back to.

Recently opened in Surbiton, this is traditional Japanese food. Delicious, fresh and simple. The head chef is so traditional the idea of social media and a website is a no-no. Instead incredible sushi and warm food for amazing prices. The gyoza is crispy and delicious especially with the range of traditional Japanese beer. The maki is fresh and light. Then there are a range of noodle dishes. The service is charming too.

Obviously don't set sky high expectations for yourself, and imagine yourself in Nobu, this is a decent local Japanese spot. We are 'just' in Surbiton after all. Been here twice, and ordered once online (ramen). For sure I can definitely recommend the lunch sets/ bentos here - good value, the udon (only if you are a fan) and chicken katsu curry were delicious. The salmon nigris and makis were pretty good. Also had a Dragon roll, however the unagi was in small pieces instead of large chunks - the price was not extortionate however and reflective, so no drama. Dumplings are nice. The Deliveroo ramen was just OK, but I wouldn't recommend takeaway ramen in any case, I had a bad craving and it was cold / wet outside unfortunately. It's also hard to compete when you can take a fast train to Shoryu in central London for a quick (kinda) fix. Having said that, still a good alternative to Kokoro in this area! Happy to have you here, Boat 🥰

Boat is our go-to place whenever we are craving for Japanese food. We have been going for the past year and we have been consistently satisfied with the food and the service. Highly recommend it if you are looking for simple authentic Japanese food.
