Love this pub and its publican Mark, every thing you could ever want from a local and more, I have just worked out that I have been coming to this pub for about 47 years I wonder how many pints that is !
This is a great pub, staff and customers superb, specially the Tidies.

Amazing food! Tapas menu is soooo yummy, although would say it's more small plates of food rather than actual tapas, so don't order too much! So well priced too, defo going back soon! 👍😬
Great pub with often live music at weekends. Friendly bar staff and locals. Wonderfully devoid of yuppies and students.
Been a local for years and my family from Sunderland were waiting for me and made to feel really welcome with good food shame about the football score xx

You got to visit the Public House to feel the difference in Surbiton.
In spite of the pub being packed due to the rugby I was greeted very quickly. The staff were fantastic and very friendly.
The room was extremely clean and comfortable and I would highly recommend.
Better yet I could even get a "light and bitter" so that was a real piece of nostalgia for me!
Upon arrival we were greated by Stacey who was welcoming and friendly. Couldn't have asked for a better host. By far the best service we've seen for some time.The room was clean and tidy, stocked with everything you need for your stay. The pub was nice with a good selection of drinks and food.
Excellent location near plenty of restaurants. The owner Mark was so friendly and welcoming. The bar downstairs below the room is also a lot of fun. Clean rooms as well and friendly staff. Will definitely stay here again.
Great pub and great staff, the owner was very nice and I bet he has a wonderful family who appreciate him. Definitely coming back here and I recommend anyone else aswell!

Went to a private birthday party a few weeks back. They have a great area for these occasions. Food was good & plenty of it. The atmosphere in the pub was good. Was not surprised the pub was busy. Well behaved regulars I noted. This pub is always busy when I pass.
Some of us felt the manager needs to smarten up as he looked as he had just got out of a dustbin, no eye contact while collecting ,no nodding .etc while he was collecting. the empties of the table. Seems to have no pride in his appearance .Have taken a star off because of this.
I was here celebrating new year. It was a great atmosphere and no fights. Everyone was kind of looking out for each other. The frightening bit was when they locked everyone in the building and locked the garden doors. I have special needs. I was totally terrified. Nothing short of a miracle that I was not carried out in an ambulance. Not going there at night again but sure it’s fine if I went for a lunch time brew
We went to a party for my Son. (The Black Lion is his regular pub) My daughter in law organised it. Staff did food. Fantastic time. Very friendly. Although extremely busy Staff managed to keep smiling. Will definitely visit again when I'm in the area. Thank you Mark
I really like this pub, nothing flashy but dogs and kids were welcome, and it felt like a good mix of locals and people in to watch the football. Plenty of space, lots of tables. Would visit again.
Stayed at the black lion for 2 nights, hotel like rooms in a pub and for a reasonable price. Thanks for the hospitality as always Mark.
Was out on a work social have a cheeky game of pub golf and the staff were absolutely wonderful, they served us kind and patiently despite there being so many of us trying to figure out the payments and they were incredibly friendly just chatting with us and making sure we were all ok (especially the pretty far gone ones)
