I recently attended the ropery for a family wedding and was absolutely blow away by the place!!
Excellent food, great bar and extremely reasonable prices!
What I love most was the warm, friendly atmosphere created by the staff, who I must say were top drawer all day, nothing was too much trouble.
Even had a brief chat with the 2 brothers who own the place , very friendly and genuine lads, would highly recommend.
We got married here on the 18th of August and Tim and Shaun literally could not have been more accommodating to our massive wedding party, from start to finish everything was tailored to our needs and the whole team genuinely never stopped all night! All of our guests commented on how amazing their food was (something which was really important to us) and it wasn’t until afterwards we started hearing stories from guests about how the team went above and beyond to make them comfortable, little things like noticing a few of our guests struggled with the stairs so were helped by staff and the team members who noticed one of our guests who struggles with large crowds was given extra attention during our wedding breakfast, this was all without being prompted or asked. I would genuinely recommend our venue to anyone and would like to thank all staff involved for creating the relaxed, fun day we wanted ��
Webster's Ropery really is a beautiful little gem in an unexpected place. My visits here have been at some great family functions with dutiful and attentive staff, very reasonable drink pricing, and a well maintained venue in a surprisingly picturesque little area. It really is an ideal venue for any type of function, and the team genuinely couldn't be more helpful. Can't recommend them enough.

Me and my partner had the best day and also all the guests said it was lovely, the food was perfect and also everything on the day could not fault. I had my Retirement party there on the 12th May and it was Fantastic. Sean and his staff had the room looking Beautiful, he promised it would be lovely and it certainly was. Sean made sure we had everything we needed and was on hand all evening. The food was delicious and the female DJ was class she had everyone up dancing, so a fab night was had by all. Thank you everyone at the Ropery for making it a wonderful unforgettable evening. Deffinatly Recommend the fabulous venue, with equally Fab owners and staff. Well Done xx
What a fabulous venue. 5* service from the time we booked it to the end of the wedding day. Sean’s advice and guidance was spot on. The guests commented on how good the food was. Even my little nephew said it was the best beef he had ever had. Having the use of the different rooms worked really well on the day and every room was decorated beautifully. The staff were brilliant - nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Webster’s Ropery for making our day just perfect.

We got married at Webster’s Ropery on Saturday and honestly can not thank Sean and his team enough for everything they done. We loved this beautiful building and knew it had to be our venue from the moment we walked in! Anyone that knows us knows how unorganised we usually are but Sean took all the stress and worry out of the planning side and made some great suggestions that definitely worked out for the better. The day & night went off perfectly, there’s not a thing we can fault and nothing was too much trouble. Sean took care of us and our guest throughout the full day and night. The food was delicious for both the reception and evening buffet, the DJ was absolutely fab and all the staff were great! Would highly recommend Webster’s Ropery to anyone for their wedding day. Myself and my Wife Natalie were married at Websters Ropery, I have to say that this venue is outstanding, the team that works here are without a doubt the best hosts you could ever ask for. From the Planning and lead up where Lauren was great, listening and helping my wife coordinate her plans, to the staff working the day who made sure that we had everything we needed to have our perfect day. Always attentive, always checking in that we were enjoying the occasion and just a friendly and welcoming group of people.
Sean, the Co-owner and our host put so much effort in executing what my wife envisioned for her day, from welcoming us in the morning to seeing us through the evening when we let our hair down he made sure that we had everything we needed, we can't thank him enough.
Tim, The other Co-owner and brother of Sean worked tirelessly in the kitchen and we have to say with the inclusion of our guests too that the food was phenomenal, the belly pork starter being a stand out dish. The brothers have really cracked what it is to host a wedding to remember and we can't sing theirs or the staff's praises enough.
Thank you so much for giving us the day we always hoped for and we wish you all the success you deserve, I urge anyone looking at this venue to do so with the confidence that they will do everything in their power to make sure you have your perfect day!

Webster's Ropery, also known as Deptford Patent Ropery on the River Wear did in fact make actual ropes!
Established in 1793 the company reputedly made some of the ropes for Nelson's Flagship HMS Victory.
1804 Production reached 800 tons per year.
1891 they produced a steel rope 4 miles long and weighing 20 tons, for a colliery in south west England. The cranes at the yard and at the goods station were unable to lift the load all at once, so it was made up into three coils, allowing the slack between them to hang, and the coils were lifted one at a time.
My daughter had her wedding here. .and I can thank the ropery enough. They made us very welcome and did a great job considering the circumstances . A beautiful place great food and the drinks are responsibly priced. Thank you very much ❤️

As a Sunderland girl proud of her roots, this venue ticked all the boxes. Steeped in history, this listed building is beautiful sitting on the banks of the River Wear. We can't thank you enough! Attended 2 parties here in both function rooms. Both rooms were lovely for its purpose. Easy parking. Food was lovely. Had curry would of been better if served nan bread as well as the rice.
