We booked the bottomless afternoon tea and it was fantastic. Highly recommend it.
Plenty of food available with a good balance between sweet and savoury (the cheese scone was 👌).
Drinks options included prosecco, prosecco cocktails, gin/pink gin and mixer and beer so plenty of options to please everyone.
Attentive service for the lovely staff, shout out to Harrison who kept the gins coming regularly!
This lovely eatery is a much needed addition to Sunderland centre. Its unusual themed decor is very attractive. Clean, well kept surroundings, we were made welcome by friendly staff. There is a good selection of teas as well as coffees. Soft and alcoholic drinks can be purchased, prices are reasonable. The menu is varied, from cakes snacks, jacket potatoes, panini to a main course. We had a chicken pasta dish £6.95, good size portion and well presented. The relaxing atmosphere and low key music is pleasant. The attention to detail was so nice, will definitely go again.
Amazing cocktails and food looks and smells delicious. Staff are so friendly!
Beautiful venue, amazing staff, delicious food
Can't recommend The looking glass enough!
Love the way the decor in this place. Friendly service. I will be returning !
Attended an amazing Alice in wonderland party today complete with characters. Little tea party was lovely
Amazing food and atmosphere would come again any day
My Mrs been desperate to visit for months. Took advantage of their amazing “Date Night” deal of 2 mains/sides/drinks for £30. From the first moment inside we were looked after superbly, the decor is a sublime. Great music in the background, the owners Mam was taking orders, showed us to our table & was just amazing the entire meal. From the little touches of my Mrs being asked to pick a card out of the pack to randomly choose what cocktail, the food was exceptional. Steak with pepper/strawberry sauce something I’ve never tried, want again! Can’t wait to visit again. Delightful venue, great hosts, top grub & a heated outdoor courtyard for the difficult COVID times. We will be back soon!!
Wanted to visit for ages, used my husband's birthday as an excuse and had booked sunday lunch this weekend. Even before we got across the doorway they were going all out to help us as our satnav was unable to find it, we rang them and they sent a member of staff to wave at us from the top of the street!! That's service that you get with a family run restaurant. Decor was all redone in lockdown and themed, obviously, with Alice in Wonderland and looking glass story book ornaments and art. We loved it, classy, fun and quirky, just like us. We are self employed furniture upcyclers and have lots of Alice inspired items in our Jacky white's market stall, just a few minutes away, in Sunderland too. Food was good and plenty of it, great homemade gravy. Lush choice of puddings. They do an imaginative range of cocktails but i was driving. They handled the Covid-19 advice well, explained it at the door and the friendly waitress kept us right. Overall lovely experience and we will return on another day to try the week menu.
The Looking Glass was recommended by my mother in law and was easy to find. Service was fantastic and the food was excellent. I had a Chicken and bacon salad. The chicken pieces were beautiful and the bacon was lovely and crispy but melted in your mouth. The dressing was beautiful and the salad had a good mixture. The coutons were even lovely. My hubby had the special which was Chicken and prawn sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very attentive and made us feel very welcome. Lunch time was very busy but the staff just took it in their stride. Lovely place and worth a visit.
We had a beautiful meal at " THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS " Today . Drinks and service were spot in .I loved all the Alice in Sunderland ornaments and decor. Everything was cooked to order and full of flavour .It was so good to sit and relax in lush surrounding s . Keep up the good work .
It was good to hear that this place is open again. We had a spontaneous lunch in the sunshine, lovely salad, nice home-made fish fingers, and possibly the best chips I've ever tasted.
Crisp Asahi beer, and the wine was good too.
Really good service - look forward to our next visit.
Loved it! Lovely place, with great food, drinks menu and staff. Will definitely return soon with my friends for our next catch up. Thank you x

A lot more to this restaurant than meets the eye. A locally influenced business that has the heart of Sunderland as it's main ambition.Give this a try you won't be disappointed.
Just enjoyed a beautiful meal for my birthday there.
Let's help make this one a success.🥂🥂
I love the theme and the food was nice; its kinda hidden in plain sight; the exterior gives little clue as to the theme the inside which I guess adds to the wonderland theme and personally I like to talk but this place is really quiet even though there were at least 5 full tables, I felt awkward because it felt like just talking was disrupting other people, so if you like a quiet place to think this is it; I don't know what it is like on an afternoon though as I only came in for lunch.
We were brought here by family whilst visiting the area. They have done wondrous things inside with the decor and ir feels like youve been transported when you step inside from the cold. We were greeted by friendly staff and even though there were six of us with no booking they were happy to accommodate us. Service was excellent, as was the food and the prices were very reasonable. We all left happy and I wouldn't hesitate in coming again.
