Reviews Thai Bay Bar&restaurant

Our monthly meal out took us to a hidden gem in a quiet corner of Sunderland. The restaurant menu offers their own slant on Thai cuisine with some popular familiar dishes scattered across the page. We started with two of the sharing platters with our guests opting for the seafood themed one while ours was more meat centered. Each sharing board comes with a couple each of four of the starter selections and they proved to be a great idea as we were struggling to choose single dishes and this gave us a great introduction to the Thai Bay slant on things, chicken skewers smothered in satay, ribs, spring rolls and dim sum for us. Delicious. I had the pork on pork duo main course, a mound of rice topped with crispy belly pork and tender pork slices smothered in a very tasty sauce with another dipping sauce on the side. Jane had the nutty chicken which was served in a potato rosti style bowl and also came with rice, a huge portion, great value. Thai restaurants can be a bit monotonous with the same dishes appearing at them all but Thai Bay just puts enough twist on it to keep it interesting, with generous portions at a reasonable price. Top job, we will be back.

Had an amazing meal here in Wednesday night. We were lead straight through to our table and although it was empty, the meal was outstanding. The hostess was patient when we asked lots of questions about the menu then took our order. Starters were great but the main meal (I had duo of pork) was delicious and the portions generous. Think this place is a hidden gem but would definitely go back again. Not expensive either.

My husband and I found Thai bay by chance 2 years ago and have not eaten thai from anywhere else since. Amazing food, fantastic service and the owners and staff are the friendliest around. We have dined as a couple and as a larger party of 15. Nothing is a problem and I would highly recommend x

Got my 1st thai bay takeaway last night! Unreal food as always! I ordered at 545 and asked for delivery for 730pm. It arrived spot on time, all food was still steaming hot and had a bag of prawn crackers threw in too! Only a couple of things were that 2 out of 3 nutty chicken didn't have many nuts in portion 3 had loads unlucky to the other two and missed the chip baskets they are served in when dining in but you know what it didn't spoil it at all! We were all well and truly stuffed! I should say aswell that this order was for 9 people with most getting starters and mains and too have it all as hit as it was and the time it arrived amazing service!

Amazing!!!! We all came for a meal before our friend left for thailand. The food was perfect. I ordered dishes I wouldn't normally to try something new. The food was fantastic not 1 complaint between 12 people and will be back soon. Can't thank the owners enough x

I had the lunch menu here on a Tuesday. It was fantastic, the best Thai food I have had for a long time. The service was great, very helpful and polite. The price of the lunch menu was good especially as it included a soft drink. Will definetly visit again when I next come to Sunderland. :-)

My husband had been here earlier in the week and enjoyed it so much he brought me! I am so pleased he did. However as a vegetarian I was disappointed and lack of choice but a chat with the waitress changed that as most dishes can be adapted! Will be back

Visited with friends & ordered from the early bird menu, available until 7pm I think. Service was good, attentive without being all over you. Mixture of food but the chicken satay was amazing as was the nutty chicken main.If you like thai food go here. We called in on spec for lunch and are we glad we did. We chose lunchtime special for £11.95 which inc a starter a main and a soft drink. The food didnt disappoint,

Spent a few days at the tall ships race and stumbled upon this superb Thai restaurant, ended up eating there twice. So nice to see some different dishes on the menu and everything beautifully cooked and presented. Probably the best Thai restaurant we have ever been to.

The food was lovely and reasonably priced. The service was great but I did think the food was a little slow in coming out. I would definitely eat here again.
