Booked a table , special occasion one of my dearest friends birthday , to say we were spoilt is an understatement, the staff were so attentive , special thanks to the lovely Ellie who went above and beyond , nothing was a bother .We had the full 3 courses absolutely delicious and such big portions , don’t normally bother with a dessert but couldn’t resist and it was literally melt in the mouth , I honestly can’t recommend enough and if I say so myself I do have high expectations , loved so much will be booking a table for Easter weekend . Definitely turning into one of my favourite places to eat x

Whether it's a Sunday roast. Or a meal from the main menu, (plenty of choice from the drinks menu too). The food is always top-notch. Very atmospheric old time pub with very friendly and helpful staff.

Called in 4pm bank holiday Monday. Though we'd just have a sandwich. Place was fully booked. Staff were great. Inside was full and terrace was to. The staff still ensured we were seated. Prawn salad sandwich was enormous and not expensive. I couldn't fault any part of the visit. If i wanted to be picky. A pontoon and stairs down to waters edge would be nice. Duno if we could get boat along side river wall at low tide . Supose we were lucky it was just off high tide

Another lovely meal yesterday I had lasagna which was home made with a lovely salad and home made Coleslaw and garlic bread. Prices are a bit more then some pubs was 9.95 which may put people off as money can be tight these days and you go where is cheapest but the portions sizes are huge. Staff are always welcoming.

Massive Sunday lunch. Almost had to leave some of it. But I loosened my belt and carried on. Plus there's always room for dessert. They let me have cream *and* ice cream with my chocolate fudge cake.

Went to here before the Sunderland game today. Amazing food as ever. I suggest getting Halloumi fries and the Gammon steak. Nice little pub if you ever visit the best city in the North east

My friends in Sunderland hosted a Sunday lunch for my wife and I when we came up for a weekend visit from London. It was a unique experience just to eat in a 300 year old building that had a rich history of the part it played for the shipbuilding and related industry on the River Wear that Sunderland was once globally famous for. The service was excellent. The traditional Sunday lunch was roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. The serving was huge and generous. Probably large enough for 3 adults. I had mushroom soup to start with. It was very well home made.

Love this family pub on the north Riverside. Out of the way, small car park but plenty of street parking. Always busy. Amazing food at amazing prices. Love the Sunday lunches - huge portions I have also been through the week for the main menu. The service is friendly, polite and helpful to give to give recommendations. I never feel rushed even on a busy Sunday.

Sunday Lunch. Good service, good food , good beer, a particularly good Guiness. Excellent! Advise advance booking for Sunday Lunch. Located by the riverside, a small outside seating area and carpark.

Took my wife, mother and sister for lunch at the Shipwrights. We were welcomed by very friendly staff and a very comfortable atmosphere. The menu choice is amazing as is the food itself. My wife and I had cod whilst others had beef and gammon. All was delicious. Only two of the party had deserts, one had ginger pudding with custard which looked fabulous and the other was an Eaton mess, the only criticism is that the Eaton mess had no cream but other than that a perfect meal was had by all. We travelled down from Scotland in order to visit this establishment and catch up with family and we were not disappointed. We cannot recommend this place highly enough and we will be returning VERY soon. Thank you all for an amazing experience. 👏

Last visit was pre pandemic. Nice to see that standards haven't slipped. Good food at non ripoff prices, still very friendly and all this in a building with 300 years worth of history.
