Reviews Tomari-gi

CLOSED! You can still book a table online but don't as Tomari-Gi has closed. Local runours are that the landlord wanted to increase their rent beyond what was afordable. Returned to give it another go, this time knowing that we would only have the table for a limited time. It wasn't so busy this time so the noise didn't reverberate as much but there's been no design changes so I'm certain it would still be an issue if busy. The good news is that the quality of the food is still excellent. I think it is slightly more expensive (£100 for 3 people incl. Drinks) but good value. Service was excellent and we had a thoroughly good evening. Previous review...... The food was excellent and good value. Marked down on atmosphere because it's all hard surfaces so the noise just reverberates in an unpleasant way, could easily be solved with fabric panels. Table service was okay but, despite booking several days ahead, at no point were we told that there was a time limit on our table so we weren't even offered the desert menu as they wanted us to vacate for more customers. We were invited to finish our drinks in the bar area which we did but it rather spoilt what had been an enjoyable evening.

Not something I was expecting to find on a rural getaway. But what a great surprise. Very popular place, we had to make a booking and go back the next night. Table turn around is a little slow. We waited about an hour for our table so had drinks in the upstairs bar. (But our group weren't rushed even though we had a late dinner.) Staff were very enthusiastic about the menu and drinks. The restaurant and bar were very clean. And dog friendly. With outside seating. The food was faultless and full of flavour. Everything was very reasonably priced. I must reccomend the soft shell crab roll 👌🏾.

The best food in town. Packed with flavour and pretty. Loved the vegan dumplings and my chicken dish with rice, salad and a spicy mayo just divine. Excellent rose wine and friendly, relaxed service. And very nice to sit outside on a balmy evening.

Came here for dinner at 5 pm on a Thursday. Service was very slow. It took 15 minutes before the server came back to take my order. There were only 2 other tables also waiting for food. Ordered a black sesame pork ramen. The broth was very light almost watery. Just hints of sesame oil. It's definitely the best ramen shop in town because it's the only one :)

The food here is really excellent - some of the best I’ve had in the UK. They even have Pocari Sweat! Huge win. Sadly, for us, service was a bit erratic. Three tables who got seated after us got served first. Trying to get the bill, and then the card reader, at the end was impossible too. With these finishing touches, this place is 5 stars, and I would definitely still go again, just for the food.

Came across this place by chance, just opposite the sub rooms. The whole family had ramen, all different including our very happy vegetarian ( declared delicious when finally all finished up!). Yummy all round, my pork hakata was soft and tasty with plenty of noodles. The restaurant filled up while we were there, and had a calm chatty vibe. We will definitely come back and eat more of the menu.

Wonderful food but unfortunately the service although good was sparse. To be fair, they are advertising for staff so I’m assuming this was part of the reason why. Although very apologetic for the waiting times no explanation was offered. Would I go back? Yes!

I had the tonkotsu chicken ramen, not the best I’ve had, but was decent. Quick service and kind staff.

Loved the food! Great staff, great service and lovely atmosphere. Had the Black sesame ramen and the Katsu curry to go, really enjoyed both thoroughly.

Our favourite!!! Amazing food…we have a bit of an obsession with Tomari Gi! We’ve eaten most things on the menu and always impressed with the quality, taste and the service. Such lovely people who run and work there! They always go over and beyond to make sure we get our order! Really authentic sushi…you struggle to find such good sushi anywhere in the uk! Please keep doing what you’re doing 🙏

Food is amazing. Some interesting drinks too. Donburi and Ramen are ready faster, but Sushi and fried chicken takes more time. Staff are a cheerful bunch, kitchen tiny and hectic. Easy 5*

Excellent food. Really delicious. My only disappointments were lack of cutlery and lack of tap water for our party. Definitely recommend and will go back 👌

Fantastic eatery in the heart of Stroud. Wonderful Japanese food at reasonable prices. The tonkotsu style Hakata ramen is the best you'll get!

After trying some pretty great ramen around the world Tomari-Gi was a strong contender. Simple ramen but that’s how it’s meant to be. Big bowls served at decent prices full of flavor Tomari-Gi is a great place to end or start a night. Will be back when in the UK.
