Totally brilliant place. When we were re-locating to the UK last year after 21 years in the US, finding a good school for our kids was one of the most important factors for us. We found a school not far from Stroud so after visiting it for the first time, on the recommendation of someone at the open day, we went into Stroud and ate at Star Anise. I immediately felt ‘Yes! This is all going to work out!’ We’ve been going regularly to Star for over 6 months now and it’s wonderful place to eat, not only for the fabulously inspired, healthy and tasty food but to people watch and meet like minded people. The coffee is also excellent there and the staff are always warm and welcoming. Totally recommend the vegan lasagne....the best I’ve ever tasted, vegan or otherwise. My kids love the fish and chips on Fridays.

Excellent food and coffee. The ambiance is great and the staff are so friendly. My son held his birthday party here and I was bowled over by how accommodating the staff were. It made for the perfect celebration. The breakfast we had a couple of days later was superb too. Definitely on my 'go to' list the next time I visit Stroud.

Delicious, healthy and versatile menu (from miso soup to fish stew) with sourdough bread, super-indulgent yet healthy snacks and great coffee. Buzzy atmosphere, where Stroud cafe society hangs! Just downstairs from Biodynamic Association and Biodynamic Land Trust.

Very happy with my Smoked salmon & scrambled eggs, always though it was a coffee and cake cafe but the open kitchen was great to see, staff and food was very nice. Thank you

A treasure of a fine and a lovely place to take a break and sample their fabulous organic foods and winderful cakes! Such a great cafe that is leaps ahead of all the cafes I have visited. Being fed up with the typical cafes and coffee houses I loved the uniqueness and the range of vegetarian foods available and such a welcoming atmosphere too.

Had a scrummy lunch here today when visiting Stroud. Shared a table outside with a local who recommended the Donburi bowl, great choice! Fresh, tasty, filling. Admittedly all the menu looked good. Took a slice of Chocolate and avocado torte back home to have later too.

Lovably quirky place. It's small but so well laid out that it feels light and airy inside with nicely placed seating outside. One of the best decaff coffees I've had; just the right combination of bitter and smooth. Beautifully presented at near perfect drinking temperature. The vegan carrot cake was surprisingly spicy (in a good way). Effective social distancing arrangements too.

I’d forgotten how delicious the food here is, and the colour … the depth to the food shines through so that actually it really is a treat you couldn’t make at home - the felafels spectacular and the colours - Wow

Fresh home cooked food in a cosy ambience. Friendly staff and good service. Choice of alternative milk for coffee and they were happy to adjust the menu for me.

I thought this place was fantastic. The food was incredible, fresh and tasty. It was a crowded Saturday lunchtime when we were there - a full eatery is always a good sign. I am even copying one of the dishes at home! Very very good.
