It was very beautiful place to visit. If you are fan of Shakespeare and his works it’s a must visit place for you. The staffs were very friendly and helpful. Tickets were little bit expensive but still it’s worth it. The toilets were clean. The gift shop has a lot of stuff to buy and explore. The surrounding have a lot of stores for souvenirs and other things. Really beautiful place to explore. I highly recommend it.
Just to be there is amazing, but be prepared to wait. I purchased a timed ticket online ahead of time (which I recommend). There is a separate entry line for online ticket purchases which let me skip a few people in line to buy tickets. I visited on a Saturday morning at the end of September. It was very crowded. First thing you walk through is semi related memorabilia. I skipped most of it. Then you exit the building to an outdoor courtyard where you stand in line to get into the actual house. We stood in line for about 45 min. Inside the house there are signs and and qr code with an audio tour (so bring earbuds) BUT I felt rushed and crowded like a sardine in a can and didn't have the experience I would have liked. A few of the guides will tell you info about the rooms if you ask. Very cool, but too many people.
I was dreaming to visit this place for ages, since I learned English at school in Ukraine 20 years ago. It's definitely a "must" place. There is a small museum before you enter the house itself. It's a very atmosphere place, staff is very friendly and gives a lot of information. Also there was a small Romeo and Juliette show. The bookstore is also nice.
It's so great that they have done this place up as a museum now. Some of the furniture is actually over 500 years old which is really impressive.
Tickets: We had pre booked tickets but mid September didn't feel like a super busy time so even without tickets we would've been okay.
Fascinating historical landmark. I couldn't believe I was inside William Shakespeare's house. It was very grand I think for it's time. Showing they were a wealthy family thanks to his father. Learnt so much about the family. And the herb garden was beautiful.
Amazing history seeped into this place. The place where the legendary William Shakespeare grew up and lived when he was first married to Anne Hathaway.
Nice grounds and lovely flowers around the house. Friendly and informative staff.
There was a Romeo and Juliet play when we visited.
Lovely souvenir shop.
It was an awesome experience. The bust of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore is an added attraction for us Indians to see inside the garden of Shakespeare's residence.
Nice place to visit and a significant piece of history that is well worth your time if you're visiting Stratford-upon-Avon. The house itself is not very big and just has a few rooms to see but it's filled with lots of history. Just to be able to walk in the footsteps of the great William Shakespeare was a treat. Considering the high price of the ticket for the visit of this house only, I would recommend getting the Shakespeare's Story ticket that will give you access to three of Shakespeare's family homes.
A great place to visit. They have a lot of information about Shakeapeare and his family. Interesting to see how people used to live and how houses looked in the past. You can try real leather cloves and some other costumes. The ticket was about £20pp but it includes a visit to other 2 sites connected to Shakeapeare, and it's valid for a whole year, so you can come back anytime within a year of purchasing the ticket.
Did a self guided tour which brought me to the birthplace, which can be accessed through the exhibition centre filled with artifacts from the time of Shakespeare, through the exhibition it leads to the grounds of the house where there are places to sit and watch plays put on by actors, you are able to walk through his birthplace with guides that talk about each room and there purpose as well as what was normal for the time. The exit of the birthplace
There is consessions avalible when buying tickets to the birthplace and tickets to see all 3 places in one price, this wasn't explained to me when at the exhibition centre but was explained at new place and thankfully they was able to adjust and the student discount allowed me to visit all 2 for the cost of what it is just for the birth place
We had a very lovely day out visiting Stratford-upon-Avon😊 Shakespeare's Birthplace was at the top of our priority list, and we were not disappointed because there was so much history! It was a highly interesting experience. The staff inside the house were also really dedicated and it was obvious they were educated about the place🙂 Thank you for the enjoyable time❤️ PS: One of my photos shows Shakespeare's grave, which is only around 10-15 minutes walking distance from his birthplace if you would like to visit that too!!
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
All summer's lease hath all to short a date.
This historical site is located in the outskirts of Birmingham it took us 1.5 hours to reach this place and it was 6pm in the evening so all retail shops were closed and few tourists were around. We spend good time while sitting and getting peaceful view of the place.
Interesting preamble in new entrance building, beautiful garden, house very atmospheric, wall coverings were pretty. Staff incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, best room guides I have ever come across, just fantastic.
Very beautiful town. Felt peaceful even though it was busy. Well worth a visit but take a picnic as the prices are a bit steep.
The Bard's home is a must visit for all literary fans and the interiors are well maintained. The street itself has such vibrance, it feels good to just visit. Ticket prices while on higher side have the advantage of a year's worth of free visit if you purchase the combined ticket for all 3 points- birthplace, new home and Anne Hathaway cottage.
Shakespeare's house was quite large. The city of Stratford upon Avon is a beautiful town with lots of well kept old houses with original wood and plaster. The wood beams have been kept well stained or painted and the plaster painted white. I really liked this town. I could easily go back here for a more extended stay.
Really recommend purchasing tickets in advance. There were only 3 or 4 people in front of us, but we still waited about 10 minutes outside before being let inside to purchase tickets. We selected the story package, which includes visiting the birthplace and new place (please don't miss seeing an original First Folio here!) and Anne Hathaways Cottage.
The exhibition here before entering the home was really fascinating, it helps you realise how much of an impact Shakespeares work really had on our use of expressions and language these days.
The gift shop here was the largest and probably the best for Shakespeare related books and souvenirs, so I'd purchase from here rather than the other places.
Visited for the first time. Wonderful history behind it. The majority of the places close by 6-7pm, so I recommend coming in earlier in the afternoon.
