Lucky we got there early as crowds started arriving. Friendly, gluten free aware staff, all certified sustainable haddock, eco-friendly packaging and cutlery. The huge platter special was only £8.20 including a huge salmon fillet, smoked haddock fishcake and nicely cooked piece of haddock. Chips were nutty and proper non-puréed mushy peas. They let you know what fishing boat brought in the haddock and what farm raised the spuds. Member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association and winners of many awards. Totally delivered on their promise and amazing value!
Very very busy shop, would recommend to pre order in advance. The system works for ordering as items are cooked fresh, the downside this does slow the service down. Over all the food was great and fresh. I didn't order onion rings but they looked great.
Best fish and chips in the world.
Before we tried them, we loved the Anstruther fish and chips and were the best ... until we ate here ... now Bay Fish and chips is our favourite and clear front runner.

Even the tartare sauce was sublime.
If you're buying fish and chips anywhere other than here, then you're being cheated.
We drive all over Scotland and we do lots of walking. Part of that is fish and chips benchmarking; The Bay is the top of the tree 🌳
Phenomenal
Award-winning chipper that boasts it's sustainability. But they also claim "locally-sourced fish and chips" when their potatoes come from 500 miles away in Cambridgeshire, England. That said, the hake was OUTSTANDING. The fishcake was good, the haddock was mediocre at best and the tartare sauce was dreadful. The chips were good. At least the fish was Scottish. I'd go back for the hake and chips. Absolutely. I'm sure I will at some point.
We ordered online and collected from an excellent team at the Bay. We were a party of 8 so put them to the test as we had such a varied order. Everyone enjoyed their food. Special details are the fresh lemons, the lovely paper boxes and details of the fishing boat that caught the fish. A lovely touch as we knew the fishermen!

I walked in and was immediately greeted by a friendly staff.
I spoke with a gentleman behind the counter that offered a few suggestions from their rather large menu.
I ended up selecting a meal that offered the Haddock, smoked Haddock, fish cake and chips.
They cooked it up greah and it came to me nice and hot.
The young lady behind the counter was extremely friendly and entertained a few my questions about the Stonehaven area.
I took my food to my car so that I could watch the ocean while I ate.
I can honestly say that it's probably the best fish n chips I've had since I've started visiting Scotland. I will most certainly be back!!

We hired The Bay on the Road fish and chip van for our wedding & the food was outstanding. The fish was unreal, I'm sad I only had time for one serving! Our guests absolutely loved it. The service was great and went so smoothly, thank you so much again!

Excellent food cooked freshly. There’s a little wait but it is absolutely worth it as the food is the best I’ve had from any chippy anywhere. Definitely not the cheapest place around, but it’s absolutely worth paying a little bit more for food this good.
Staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Only one bench outside (constantly occupied) which meant sitting on the sea wall being watched by seagulls, but that’s to be expected given the location.
my favourite chippy. Had excellent fish and chips. ate overlooking the sea. Recommended. No fuss about vegetarian options. staff really lovely. go.

hello folks Barry Allan here huge reviewer and lover of food and great businesses and here i go again folks and please read my words without question The Bay is simply the best chip shop ive ever ate at in my life oh yes! if you happen to be in the beautiful wee fishing town of Stonehaven the bay is a must if you like super fresh food presented magnificently in lovely brown boxes excellant staff hi Paul the manager lesley front of house and the crew great folks a great ambience in the lovely shop and majestic views to enjoy your food well youve found it. i can honestly say ive never had better my friend and i were there yesterday for lunch haddock and chips was the order with scampi as well the haddock was stunning beautiful white meat in the tasdtiest batter with skin on chips crispy on the outside soft and fluffy on the inside so so good and the scampi lovely and sweet wholetail scampi bursting with flavour in every bite i cant tell you how much we enjoyed it and good folks at the bay they make their own tartare sauce which as a foodie in my view is one of the best ive tasted just perfection! i could go on and on but ill just say these guys are way above any other fish and chip shops ive been to theres simply no better that ive tried and thats a fact thankyou guys see you soon best wishes barry
