Amazing food, great service and lovely place. Just outside the city and easy to drive there too. Would recommend to anyone.
Been a while since I ate here but the food was just as good as last time. The Menu du Jour is great value. Will be back again.
We found this restaurant via the Michelin app. Convenient online booking via their website, ample parking upon arrival and a warm friendly greeting.
It becomes immediately apparent that every last detail of this pub/restaurant has been taken care of a meticulously planned. The tables are beautiful and unique, wooden tables from a single piece of wood. The chairs are very comfortable. Service is attentive yet causal and friendly.
The food, is simply sublime. Everyone of our party thoroughly enjoyed their meal, and commented on how excellent the ingredients, the quality of preparation and the presentation were spot on.
We enjoyed the Menu du jour, choosing starters of Courgette & Basil Velouté and Chicken starter. The mains were Farm Assured Roasted Chicken Breast, Hasselback Potatoes, Pancetta, Savoy Cabbage, Mustard Jus and Chargrilled 28 Day Aged Ribeye Steak, Sauté Wild Mushrooms, Leek Ash French Fries, Charlie’s Leaves.
Everything about our evening was perfect.
It's been 25 years since I last visited and I'm pleased to say that the standard is a high as ever. I had a truly memorable meal with excellent service. The only thing that detracted from a perfect meal were a couple of bones in the smoked mackerel starter. I just wish The Wildebeest was nearer to my home!
Brilliant restaurant, tucked away and ideal for a special trip. The food and service was great with a keen focus on locally sourced produce and drinks. I loved it here
The atmosphere is lovely, but the service was unfortunately not great, and the food was hit and miss. The tartare starter was unseasoned (I don't recommend it) but the beef main was really tasty. Considering previous reviews, we were very surprised with our experience.
Overall, I'd say overpriced for what it was. Unfortunately, we wouldn't go back.
Genuinely the best meal I have had in the UK for years! Delicious food, beautiful presentation and great service.
I suffer from food allergies and frankly avoid eating out because it’s too much hassle. This team were proactive, efficient and sympathetic, they asked in advance for dietary requirements, the waiting staff were properly briefed and the chef flexible despite it being a busy Friday night service. It was a joy to be able to enjoy a meal without worrying about reactions and the food was absolutely epic! Cannot recommend this restaurant enough!
Fantastic service and even better food.
Went over the Easter weekend with a table of 10 to celebrate and 80th birthday. Despite the restaurant being busy we were treated as if we were the only ones on the restaurant, very attentive staff.
I would mostly definitely visit again
We came here for a Sunday roast. Hats off to them for providing a wonderful experience. The inside is tastefully decorated allowing for a pleasant dining atmosphere. The staff were attentive and willing at all times. The flavour combinations were good despite not being the most inventive. I would certainly recommend a visit.
Extensive menu, including large wine list, service attentive and prompt. Relaxed atmosphere. Great tasting food and well presented, portion sizes good. Frozen grapes with cheese was novel. Outside seating area could be improved upon. The surprise 'happy birthday' plate of chocolates was a lovely surprise. Cheeses were delicious but pricey considering they were plated/pre-portioned. Overall everyone was happy.
We went here for Sunday Roast. Only thing I have to say is the pork roast crackling is too salty for my liking (even though it does say it is sea salt crackling). The pannacotta with sorbet however is amazing!
Service genial and efficient, cuisine beautifully presented and of high quality, prices somewhat steep. Our table of 3 opted for the menu du jour and a cheerful English wine. I recommend this restaurant for impeccably civilized casual dining.
Just been to the wildebeest this evening, we had an early table but even with the restaurant quiet the ambience was lovely and soon started to fill up. There was 3 of us, myself and 2 close friends, one of which had never been before and non of us were disappointed. From start to finish it was excellent. The young lady serving us was very pleasant and polite, and took pur orders very well. Food wise I had the unbelievable artichoke starter which was divine, followed by the beef fillet with a smoked beetroot gel which was just as beautiful on the palate, if I was to be a tad picky the searing on the beef was slightly over but that is being very very picky as it was beautiful and tender and a perfectly balanced dish. To finish again an insanely nice passion fruit souffle with creme anglais. WOW . Being a patisserie chef of 15 years I know the skill it takes to get them perfect, perfect they were. Ive been here several times and I love it , its just so consistent. Worth every penny and compliments to everyone involved. On leaving we left a very good tip just because its lovely to go somewhere knowing its going to be amazing every time. Hope to see you soon
Had an amazing birthday meal here tonight. Amazing food. Every course we had the plates were collected completely empty! Great flavours. Lovely atmosphere and decor, great service (attentive and not bothersome) from friendly staff. Glad I listened to the recommendations from friends and visited...now I'll be the one recommending it!

Attractive bar and restaurant, the outdoor terrace is screened off from the road. You can eat and drink outside with your dog who is also allowed at the bar but not restaurant. The staff were friendly when booking, on arrival and throughout the meal. Nice wooden furniture inside, smart bar and everything spotlessly clean.
The menu had a fairly wide choice, there was a menu of local food called the Norfolk menu which I looked the look of but sadly this is only available if the whole table chooses the same which isn't likely on a table of eight.
This is quite an expensive restaurant, budget £60 for three courses. It was one of the best meals I've ever had. My own food was wonderful and I tried other people's too, nicely presented and outstandingly tasty. Good wine list and well kept beer also.
An absolute treat which I will long remember.
Flawless, worthy of a Michelin Star.
Taster menu was fantastic, and so glad we decided to have this, beautiful decor, excellent service and staff so friendly and attentive. Highly recommend and will definitely visit again. 5* 👍
We were staying off grid in a cabin nearby and had a brilliantly luxury evening here as a treat. The menu was phenomenal, making it very difficult to choose but we weren’t disappointed when our food arrived as it the dishes were executed perfectly and more than justify the price. The wine was delicious and reasonable in equal measure to go with our food. Staff and atmosphere also great, real gem if you’re visiting the area.
A quiet and quaint restaurant with a delightful atmosphere. But the star of the show is the food, and I really must congratulate the kitchen, they actually put time thought and effort into their vegan menu, every bite was both delicious and beautifully presented.
