Nice welcoming pub good food friendly bar staff though a large glass of Sauvignon blanc and a pint of Guinness £18 I think it was...
Stayed with a friend in the village and completely wish this place as my local! Lovely looking pub, great food, welcoming and friendly locals and staff. Can't ask for more really!
Had a lovely meal great surrounding fantastic people ... haven't been there for about 28 yrs very different from then but would recommend it definitely x
Went again today (30/7/17) for Sunday lunch and the Roast Beef was cooked superbly, as was the rest of the meal.
Best food in the area by far STILL.
Another fabulous lunch, staff really nice and food excellent
I did this review 8 months ago, although I've been back several times with friends and told people how good it is here I've never thought, until now, to update my opinion on here. Well it's still excellent, well worth a visit. Congratulations to all staff, you're doing a great job
Love this place. Great food, great people and very dog friendly. Our new favourite place.
Without doubt, the best pub in the area

Great country pub! Always a friendly welcome to greet you. Excellent selection of beers, lagers, wines , spirits, soft drinks, tea, coffee. You name it "The Black Horse" has it. Fabulous restaurant, beautiful gardens overlooking the Kent countryside. Family friendly. You have to visit and enjoy!
Still first choice whenever the fancy takes me and simply the best Sunday Roast for miles and miles!
Visited on Saturday with friends we ordered some snacks from the menu which included homemade sausage rolls and scotch eggs both of which were superb, as well as the friendly and welcoming staff it made our minds up to return on Sunday for their fabulous home cooked roast. Food was absolutely excellent I will definitely return.
Amazing dinner here last night! Both the steak and ale pie and belly pork were delicious... Lovely warm pub with a great atmosphere and fantastic staff. We will be back...
Excellent food, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff
Great home cooked food especially the Sunday roast. Lovely friendly staff. Highly recommend.
I have been to the Black Horse Stansted quite a few times, the most recent was today for my grandsons 18th birthday lunch, we were a party of 9 adults and 2 children and as usual the food was lovely and the staff very welcoming ,excellent service in a beautiful country pub. The gardens are wonderful with lovely views over the countryside. I almost don't want to praise this pub too much as want to keep it to myself but it deserves a good review and I am so pleased to live near to it .
One of the friendliest pubs I’ve been to. Staff were wonderful and helpful.
Food was generally good and clearly freshly cooked. I think the fajitas could have been more flavourful and generally I would expect sour cream and salsa but only got guacamole which left it a little plain.
Fantastic Sunday roast. Food was delicious and well portioned. Staff were very accomodating and friendly and a credit to your pub.
Flew 4000 miles to have dinner here and it was amazing. Dan and his family made a family and friends reunion perfect. Totally recommend this restaurant and can't wait to return. Thank you so much!! Sarah and Joe
A really lovely pub, service was warm, friendly and helpful. Food excellent- the BLT on brown is to die for. Good value for money it was a great find - well worth a visit
A great local town pub feeling, the kind of home cooked food you look for in pubs, tasty and hearty. Friendly atmosphere and staff, it is a great place to visit when going on a weekend stroll in nature.
Smaller and quieter than we were expecting, but what a great little place this is. Friendly staff, the roast dinner was delicious, and we will definitely be back again. Highly recommended
Really lovely pub - great food, big portions and not too over priced. Everyone catered for (our party included kids, vegans and veggies) looking forward to visiting again
My wife rang on Tuesday evening to find if they had any vegan options available for lunch the following day. She was told they didn't but the chef would sort something out for us. So we booked for 3 adults and one infant. We duly arrived Wednesday lunchtime and were presented with a hand written menu giving us the choice of 4 vegan starters and about 6 vegan lunches. Boy. Were we spoiled!!!! My wife and daughter ordered the Sage and onion vegetable cobbler. I had roasted butternut squash with walnuts, cranberries and pine nuts served with sauteed potatoes, onions and peppers. Our grandson had a starter of garlic chestnut mushrooms served on garlic ciabatta. The portions were more than big enough. The value was fantastic, less than £60.00 for 4 including drinks. Bearing in mind that we could have easily been told there were no options for us, the lengths they went to were incredible. We can only highly recommend this establishment. If you do want to visit and try their vegan options, just give them a day or so notice!
I went for lunch at the Black Horse and sat down in the garden it was quite spacious and there was two football goals at the end. For lunch I had the soup of the day (which was mushroom and loaded fries. The soup was delicious) and was served with a generous 4 large slices of bread. The loaded fries were excellent. As it said in the name the fries were loaded, plenty of bacon, crispy onions, melted cheese and bbq sauce. Over all I think it definitely deserves 5 stars, it’s well worth a visit if near by.
Wonderful pub to make the trip out to in beautiful scenic part of Kent. The roast was delicious and service was a brilliant.
Has a fantastic sized garden for kids to run around and explore safely. An extremely well run country pub that I cannot recommend enough. Worth all five stars. *****
Really enjoyed our visit there. The staffs there were nice and friendly. The food was really good, much better than norm pub food. They also have good awareness of gluten free in their food. It was very nice to know that the gravy for the Sunday lunch was gluten free anyway. We will definitely visit again if we are around the area.
Food much improved. It's so good to have the pub in the village

1st visit here. Great pub, good food and lovely staff 👍
Will definitely go again when next in the area.
Lovely roast here. The interior is quite basic/dated, price is about average, but the service and food were great. Loved my dessert!
I went to a local boot fare and thought I'd look for a lovely pub for a Sunday roast.. let me tell you now the staff are friendly and very welcoming and helpful. The roast diners are so nice and tender . I had roast beef and slow cooked pork belly with all the trimmings, it was out of this world soooo juicy and so many flavours . The Yorkshire pudding was again delicious topped off with beautiful surroundings. I'll definitely be coming back with the family.
Definitely recommend to anyone .
Stopped off here for a late lunch. Best meal we have had in a while. Mains where full of flavour, ice cream heavenly. Even catered for our son's dairy allergy. Staff very pleasant. Highly recommended.
