We were having our usual Sunday lunchtime drink in the Star on 9th July when our conversation was interrupted by a raised voice at the Bar. This is the first time ever we have experienced this. The pub and restaurant and garden were extremely busy. Unfortunately there had obviously been a misunderstanding and a lady was angry and vented her feelings regarding locals. However we would just like to point out that we found the young barman to be extremely polite. We always find the Star to be very welcoming serving delicious food and a range of good guest beers

We used the Pub walks app for the first time yesterday and it was brilliant! We did the short Standon walk and it was great. The Star pub was superb! Great food and great beer! The pies were immense! We had a brilliant walk and ended with a lovely afternoon in a proper pub!

Fantastic meal here tonight which is the main part of the evening. But the welcome from the staff and the waitresses are second to none. If you have not been to the star at standon you really should try it out. PS IPA is brilliant the car will stay here tonight. Another pint please. Best night for a long time for Annes birthday.

A chance encounter on a road trip, we popped in for a late lunch without a reservation. They were friendly, helpful and efficient, fitting us in and feeding us promptly. The food was good, made from high quality ingredients. We had prawn cocktails, served with delicious brown bread, and Caesar salads, beautifully dressed. Many thanks for looking after two hungry travellers!

Lovely garden but make sure you book the table in advance otherwise they won't serve you any food.

Lovely pint of Green King mix in a well kept beer garden with petanque piste. Church bell ringing practice ongoing. Idyllic.

What a beautiful pub. Stunning gardens with the backdrop of relaxing birdsong. Good food with a wide selection of beers. Very pleasant staff. Be sure to visit the very interesting church opposite.

This is an excellent pub for families and friends to meet with a spacious garden at the rear. You can even do a circular walk from here around some beautiful countryside. The food was superb as can be seen by my empty plate, I forgot to take a picture before I ate it. There is a good selection of drinks and prices are reasonable too. Friendly service tops off the whole experience, well worth a visit.

Great place for lunch and staff are really helpful. Nice range of dishes on the menu from ham or gammon and eggs, fish and chips to mushroom stroganoff and daily specials. Plenty of parking and comfortable dining and socialising inside and out.

I very much enjoy coming here for their Sunday roasts which are tasty with great portions, and the space has improved dramatically, as they've added a spacious extension - a big improvement on the cramped space it was before where you could barely move. The food is delicious although I'd like to see a bit more variety with desserts, the delivery is fast, and the staff are friendly. The tables could be a little bigger - I'm only 5'2" and I still bash elbows with the person sitting next to me. They have plenty of space now, so updating to bigger tables would be a huge plus. Overall, a great place to visit and I highly recommend it.

I went as a group of 12, including 5 children on Saturday, New Year's Day, for lunch. We pre-booked including which mains the adults wanted to eat. The staff were lovely. The food was delicious. We sat around 2 tables indoors but had the benefit of being able to take the children into the outside space. It is really large and the play area suited our 2 to 7 year olds. I'd definitely return.

A perfect country venue. Food and atmosphere amazing. Very friendly helpful staff. Though get there early as they run out of things quickly. But I think this is a good sign of a place only serving fresh food. Enjoy.

Passing through Standon I spotted the star, after asking if they were dog friendly, which they are. I ordered the beef pie with mash and vegetables. I certainly wasn't disappointed, one of the best pies I've had for years. Excellent and if I'm in the area again I shall certainly revisit the Star. I also had a short walk around Standon down to the river by the old Paper Mill with my dogs. Lovely place and I shall return for a better look in the Spring.
