Review Laureate Restaurant At Macdonald Kilhey Court - Standish

This was the most shocking restaurant I have ever been to in a hotel. It was a disaster from start to finish. We visited the hotel on a spa weekend which meant to had to have a 2 course meal at the restaurant as it was in with the price. My friend ordered the soup of the day which we was told was a med soup.... it was like they dipped the bowl in the pond outside and warmed it up. Was vile. The salmon starter wasn't much better was fishy and no flavor. When we ordered the mains the server didn't know anything about anything on the menu and kept having to go off to ask a manager. We ordered 2 steaks for our mains one medium rare and one medium well... they came both medium one was really under done. Then when the bill came they forgot to add the £75 discount they was meant to be applied from the booking. Even though it did state on the booking we got a 2 course meal free we actually only got £25 each. It was just not good all round. We really don't recommend this restaurant at all

My wife and I were booked in on Sunday 6th August for the wedding taking place in the hotel. Personally we cannot fault the hotel and its lovely surroundings but we were completely dissatisfied with the shoddy welcome we received when we arrived. When we booked our stay we were told that our executive room would be ready from 2.00pm which would have given us more than enough time before the wedding ceremony starts at 3.30, but we were told the rooms of many of the guests including ours were not ready and we were not given the key until 3.10. This gave us just twenty minutes to get ready, it was suggested by the reception staff my wife could get changed in the ladies toilet, this was unbelievable and a total humiliation, but my wife had no alternative. It was also said by the hotels reception staff, the only way to guarantee getting the room for the Sunday from 2.00 would be booking in on the Saturday the day before!!! No mention of this was made when we initially made the booking, also at what cost??? Obviously the hotel knew how busy they were going to be, they also had a wedding on the Saturday so we would have thought they would have secured extra staff for this reason. We understand checking out time was at 11.00am so this would have given the chamber staff 3 hours to get the rooms ready, obviously this wasn't enough time with the number of staff they had. The bottom line is we were most dissatisfied, we have attended many weddings at many hotels but we have never experienced anything like this and we will never recommend this hotel to anyone. The least we could have expected was some kind of financial remuneration to keep the hotels good name but obviously customer service does not come high on the list of the hotels priorities.

Absolutely fantastic time I had on a spa break hen party of 18 people staff were fabulous and very polite, they accommodated us all so we had the best night. The rooms were as expected too. The spa facilities and treatment were awesome. Would recommend to others well worth the money

Fabulous evening at the Joseph’s Goal ball . But very disappointing main course meal . Very ‘beige’ plate of food . Pork, mashed potato, boiled potatoes and a leek . Splash of colour was a carrot ! Plus the vegetarian option for the two people on our table was the same without the meat and gravy !😱🤣. After complaining, a vegetarian pasta dish was provided which was delicious but arrived at least 20 minutes later . Such a shame as it was a brilliant evening raising money for a great charity 🤗

Booked a day of pampering here with my friend and loved it! We had the full body massage and the facial as treatments and afternoon tea in between. Cara the therapist could not have been any nicer - probably one of the best massage I have had!! The afternoon tea was lovely and we definitely had plenty!! The swimming pool and jacuzzi area is on the small side, but was very relaxing. The relaxation room was lovely too. Definitely will be coming back soon!

I would highly recommend to all my family and friends . Me and my partner stayed here on the 2nd of March . We walked in with a lovely welcome from the staff . The bedroom was beautiful and very clean . We had our 3 course meal which was fantastic and also used the £10 voucher we got threw booking with the hotel . We had a brilliant night sleep (slept like a baby) then woke for breakfast . Staff was very friendly and polite . There was so much to choose from for breakfast . I had a full English which was lovely . We was due to go after breakfast but our friend bought us a afternoon tea . So the staff was really kind and let us leave our luggage with them why we went in the spa which was lovely no body in there till a hour later . Then we had after noon tea which was beautiful . Would lv to stay again thank you so much xx

My friend and I came for a spa day and Afternoon Tea. We had the Massage & Facial and then both opted for the File & Polish on Toes. The massage and facial was excellent the girls were really good however file and polish had chipped within 30 minutes of being applied (we sat in the relaxation room for this period before leaving) The relaxation room is very relaxing and full of beverages. The pool area is tiny not enough loungers. And when we came their was a class on so was told we could join in or basically we couldn’t use the pool. The sauna and steam room are very good. The afternoon tea was very poor. Dry stale sandwiches with really basic fillings, cakes were a lot better. However we were the only people in the restaurant and there was no music and the staff just left us too it. We sat waiting 30 minutes for someone to come to us so we could ask for more drinks. I ordered a small Diet Coke and it came to £3.25 Overall the spa is very good needs to be updated with some up to date treatments (no body really uses normal polish anymore update to gel it’s basic?) however the restaurant and he staff are pretty low standard. We wouldn’t return or reccomend and since our experience I’ve had 2 clients say the exact same as us so something really does need to be done.

Positives: The hairdryer worked and the surrounding lakes were nice. Front of house staff were friendly. Negatives: Kettle leaked boiling water everywhere. The beds were not made at check in. The shower sprays water over the bathroom to make a swimming pool so don't put your belongings in there. The facilities opening hours are poor. Manager had poor people skills. No fridge in the rooms. Rooms are extremely warm with poor lighting. Depending on where they place your room it can be very noisy (industrial noise) over night. Staff use the fire exits as the smoking area so if you are near a fore exit I would ask to move rooms as the door will go most of the night. I didn't eat here so can't comment on food.

Me and my 3 friends came for a spa day on Friday. It was fabulous. Excellent facilities. Afternoon tea was amazing. Can I also say the staff were outstanding. They couldn't do enough for us made us feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend.

Location is excellent, facilities of the Spa and Hotel are good. Only disappointments were the lack of bar staff (bar behind reception), prices of drinks and a 'cool' hot breakfast. Would recommend.

Had been warned previously about this place. The bar prices are extortionate and there's always a " problem" in that certain things run out, such as the Prosecco having run out, but there's always very expensive alternatives available. Yesterday it was the draught beer that went of after an hour.......no one was available to check the cellars gas supply apparently ! ......but as an alternative there were quite expensive bottles of beer available. The only trouble was, if you wanted a pint, the two bottles would cost you almost £ 8.00 a pint. I've stayed at many MacDonalds Hotels over the years, especially in the Lake District, where I expect to pay a little more than the norm, but for a place stuck out on a back road in the middle of nowhere midway between Wigan and Chorley, it's just a rip off.

Fantastic food, spa massage was brilliant, room and hotel great and courteous staff. One of the best days in a hotel we’ve had. Highly recommended.

I have just returned from an overnight stay which included a spa treatment, and "Award winning breakfast" the hotel itself was cosy, but dark and quite dated, as was the room. The surroundings where lovely. We had really been looking forward to the spa treatments which lasted no longer than 45 minutes instead of 60 and a luxury foot treatment which should have been 1/2 hour , was literally 20 minutes most, and was in no way luxury. We did enjoy the use of the tiny pool, jaccuzi , steam room and sauna before our treatments. The staff where friendly. The bar prices where horrendous.. On the face of it, it looked nice, but we will not be returning ....
