Amazing spot. Tranquil pub with quality ale on offer. Restaurant serves top-notch food. Staff were super friendly.
Lovely rooms complete with gun locker if that's your thing. Some are even dog friendly. I imagine you need to request one when booking.
Would recommend booking a table for food to avoid disappointment. Restaurant is generally busy.
Visited for Sunday lunch and it was an amazing experience!
The restaurant and the bar have a lovely atmosphere. The open fireplaces make it feel cosy and warm.
The staff were really friendly and helpful and the service was great.
The menu was up on the board and the choice of food was great!
We enjoyed absolutely delicious food and we will certainly be back!
The quality of the food is truly outstanding. Highly recommend!
Absolutely first class restaurant. We have heard a lot of good things about this place and it exceeded expectations. Brilliant service, thoughtful and never intrusive. Excited by the menu and each course both looked and tasted wonderful. The cheese board was excellent! The only thing which could be improved upon was the wine selection, just a bit bland and simple, but I'm splitting hairs!
Would highly recommend and we can't wait to return.
Lovely rural village pub that’s won fair few awards over the years for its ale and all things pub related I imagine!! About 3-4 ales and ciders on . Has a lovely bar area and a fireplace along with a dining oriented room. Open for lunch and dinner. Popular with locals , walkers and tourists. Dog friendly too! Also may have a semi regular folk night on? Nice pub! Recommended! 🍻 🍷 🍲 🐕 🥾🌲🏴
The food is indeed AA 3 stars and absolutely delicious. The rustic romantic restaurant and pub has a fishing theme running. If you look carefully you will notice that there are fishing rods mounted to the ceiling. Booking a table is recommended. After 7pm it got quickly quite busy.
We have just stayed for two wonderful nights. The food was delicious, service was excellent and couldn’t fault anything.
Will definitely be making another visit.
Arrived without a reservation on a busy evening when they were fully booked, but helpful staff offered a limited menu if we ate in the bar or beer garden. One of our party enjoyed the best halloumi burger she'd ever had. Also good fish and chips. The dessert menu made it tough to choose as all looked so good. As it was the sticky toffee pudding with caramelised bananas was amazing, as was the rhubarb cheesecake. Thoroughly recommended. Not from the area but would travel again to return for the full menu. Thank you.
An excellent lunch, carefully prepared from fine quality produce by a team who care what they are doing. After eating out almost daily over the previous two weeks, it was a pleasure to end our holiday with this meal. Sadly, the huge majority of restaurant owners either don’t appreciate good food and drink or choose not to provide it for their customers. It was a pleasure to visit a traditional pub that aims to do things properly.
The best pub in Dumfries and Galloway. Great selection of beer. I have heard the food is really good but not yet tried. Will definitely give it a go.
Good service. Lovely old style pub. Great pint and the home made Pork Scratching is highly recommended
We had a lovely stay here. The food was an absolute highlight! The staff are all warm and friendly. The rooms are lovely, clean and modern. I would absolutely recommend staying here! We had an excellent stay.
Is this the best pub in the UK? It’s definitely in my top five and possible it really is number one. So many pubs now end up being Gastro pubs. The clue in not being a pub is having salt and pepper on every table. Who adds that to a pint? The Clachan firstly has an excellent pub with all the things that make a pub appear in my top five. A real fire , dogs , great and changing beers , friendly staff and locals who talk to you.Slightly weird if you are from London .
Then next door they have the most incredible restaurant that compliments the pub. The cooking is really superb with a varied and changing menu. Haggis scotch egg is a wonder to behold. As is anything where they include dripping toast with ox cheek being the meat resting on top . I cannot recommend the cooking enough. This chef in any other setting would be looking at the very least for a Michelin mention.
Tbe best ever Sunday roast, everything was so tasty. Great service, great beer.
I will be back !
This was the best meal I have had in ages. For a family of 4 dining every course was fantastic. Service was very attentive and we had to thank the chef before we left. Would highly recommend!
The lady who served our drinks behind the bar was very pleasant and friendly, an absolute credit to the Inn. Thank you
Had a great stay here after Christmas. Lovely rooms, comfy bed, and breakfast was lovely. Shame we couldn’t eat at the restaurant as the menu looked incredible. And will definitely visit again. Me and the pup made to feel very welcome!
Yet another fantastic stay at The Clachen 4 nights (28/03-02/04). Got to be the best pub/restaurant/hotel we've stayed at. Rooms immaculate, decor and cleanliness outstanding. Breakfast was superb and plentiful and evening meal was perfect in taste, presentation and quality thanks Phil the food wizard.Great choice of draught and bottled drinks at a good price. Laura is the most subtle and professional host I've ever met. Special thanks to all the staff especially little Liz, Gilly and obviously Laura and Phil.
Absolutely brilliant food. Every course was exemplary and so incredibly delicious. Some of the best food we have, without a doubt, ever had and a very reasonable price too. Food presentation was immaculate and pleasing to the eye too which is always an added bonus. All the staff were attentive and helpful. We overheard a couple of other visitors and all of them were saying how good the food was and we couldn't agree more. We travelled 45 minutes to get here and we would travel further, that's how excellent it was.
(We forgot to take a picture of the main courses (a lovely Sunday roast - beef and chicken) but it was plentiful and tasty. The risotto with wood pigeon was the best starter my partner said they have ever eaten)
