A place enshrined with the wonder of golf. Though relatively small, it feels like a sanctuary for the appreciation and understanding of the history of golf from its early days on the wild hinterlands of Scotland to its development in the nineteenth century as a popular and widely appreciated game for the wealthy and fashionable attempting to connect with that ancient past. Now anyone can come and appreciate the clubs and balls that contributed to that history. There is a quiet calm and ceremonial serenity to this place that only the presence of centuries of stories and yearnings and artifacts can provide. Note especially the elegance and stylish design of the Claret Jug.

Good place to visit if you are into golf history and have some extra time.
If you visit St. Andrews, you must visit the R&A museum. I learned much about the history. Even got to putt with a 1800s putter n ball.
This review is for the cafe (I haven’t been to the museum yet). This cafe has an unbeatable location and view over the sea and the course. Great big windows means you get to see something no matter where you sit. The menu is simple with some nice drink options and thoughtful food choices. This may seem an expensive place for tea and a sandwich, but given the location it shouldn’t really be surprising. My sandwich was small but tasted really good, with fresh bread and a generous helping of chicken. Go with the expectation of modest portions of quality ingredients in a beautiful setting and prices that reflect the tourism that dominates the area and you will thoroughly enjoy the experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The place was very busy when we arrived and seems popular on weekends all day. Given how busy it was, service was relatively quick. We will certainly be back as often as we can.

The golf museum is Fantastic and right across the street from Saint Andrews golf course, it's a must see attraction for any fan of golf. It details the history of golf and the men and women who played the game, memorabilia from the greats of golf and the first golf clubs ever used are on display. Saint Andrews is a beautiful town with many other attractions, and it's a nice day out from Glasgow or Edinburgh.
The golf museum cafe is a great spot to shelter from the wind at this time of year, good coffee , friendly staff and an interesting building with views over the 18th green of the old course.
Only 4 stars as it is a bit derivative for such a historic location.

This is a MUST when in St Andrews. The views of Old Course and 18th hole are to die for as is the food. The menu is limited but the reason being the quality and taste of the food is just devine....AMAZING!! The hand made burger with potato wedges and oh the pepper sauce....all home made are the tastiest I have ever tasted. The scones are the BEST EVER...to die for. The staff were so friendly and nothing was a bother. I cannot wait to return. Have been telling anyone who will listen to me re the quality and value for money. Thank you for such a fabulous afternoon and my kind pots of pepper sauce to take home.
Beautiful and new museum about golf. Near the green off the old course of St. Andrews. Entrance cost £7.5 and a tour takes (depending how much reading you can take) 1 to 2 hours. Above the museum is a cafetaria overlooking the beach and the green. Food is served and the service is very friendly.
This place is an absolute must for visitors who make the journey. Plenty to see, lots to learn and remember. We spent two hours in it before going onto the course itself for an hour long walk. Friendly and helpful staff.
Finally got documentary evidence for those recurring "second oldest in the world" discussions on the 19th hole at the Bangalore Golf Club.
If you have a love for golf... then make sure to set aside an hour for this fantastic display of golf history. Memorabilia dating from the 1700’s. Relax with a coffee afterwards in the adjoining cafe overlooking the R&A clubhouse and St. Andrews 1st tee. Plenty of parking nearby
The British Golf Museum has been rebuilt since my last visit. Cafe on the upper floor has a good view of the Old Course, Links and the West Sands. Good for coffee and cake. Staff were polite, though it was a little understaffed for the numbers.
