Wandered through the park after Fighting Cocks and stumbled on this current (2023) CAMRA Good Beer Guide pub. Excellent entry. Chose Wychert from Vale brewery, a 3.9% amber bitter. Madge loved it. Lovely fireplace, Good beer garden plus car parking. Great first visit. Long inside seating splits into 3 areas. Menu looks good; Sunday rossts etc.
Nice food, good atmosphere, with a good setup for a vintage pub, not been in years but will be back!
Food is quite good but we waited way too long for our meal. It was busy but still too long. Soup was extremely salty and small portion for seven pounds.
Having read a previous review, we were worried the quality of the food might not be good but were very pleased to find great home cooked pub food. All of us (4 kids 4 adults) had great meals and will definitely come back. Thanks!

We were down for the Annual Folk Festival. Very impressed with the beer garden/ bar! Very busy, but very quick. Have previously dined here and Sunday lunch was great. Please go and support this lovely pub!!

Nice friendly atmosphere, the roast beef lunch was excellent as was the lamb and chicken. Lovely homemade rhubarb and apple crumble
Wine list is ok ,do think they should have a good house wine at the £ 12 level. Highly enjoyable
Lovely old historic pub in an unspoilt part of St. Albans. Friendly service and a good selection of cask ales. My pint from the Tring brewery was excellent.

Great traditional pub. Good selection of ales and food. Would definitely recommend booking if planning on going at lunch / dinner - was full when we arrived on weekday for lunch; fortunately had booked in advance.
The 6 Bells has never let us down. First went many years ago and today's team produced wonderful innovative food, not usually seen on a pub menu. It isnt a huge or gastropub it is cosy, friendly and a feeling of history seeps from the walls. Thank you all at the 6 Bells!

Charming country-style pub in the heart of St Michaels, bordering Verulamium Park. Great Sunday roasts, though equally ideal for a quick drink in the sun-drenched garden as a stop off on a stroll around this historic district.
If you are looking for a traditional English pub in St Albans this is definitely worth a visit.
Sunday lunch, enjoyed! The 'roast potatoes' almost tasted as though they had been 'deep fried' a trick my ex-father-in-law used to 'roast' his potatoes. Not cheap, however, with the open fire, older world charm. A good visit. Always packed for Sunday lunch, booking essential. Many people turned away. Good atmosphere.
First visit here to this beautiful place pub with a large garden out the back. Really loved it and the staff were very friendly. A good range of ales and lagers to be enjoyed

Excellent half-timbered pub in St Michaels Village. Family run (I believe) and a welcoming atmosphere to the many locals (and their dogs) and occasional visitors.
Offers lots of tables over two (or maybe three?) rooms plus standing space at the long bar. The log fire is very inviting in Autumn/Winter!
Great selection of real ales and excellent home-cooked food. Had many an excellent Sunday Lunch here.
