Very polite staff on arrival, which continued through our stay. Food is excellent as always and David who attended us was very polite, easy going and pleasant and found the time to chat with us for a while. Overall experience is 5* from us as it ticks all our boxes. If you're looking for great food, service, surroundings and an enjoyable evening out then 1498 The Spice Affair is where you need to be going. Excellent.

5 Stars is honestly not nearly enough for this place! Have eaten there a few times now and each time has been outstanding. The food is fresh and AMAZING! The Vindaloo is quite possibly the best meal I've had in 45 years of shoving food in my mouth! We had one of those vegans in our dinner party on one occasion, and the chef/owner Lloyd, was happy to prepare a vegan meal so outstanding that we were all digging into it by the time dinner was over. Do yourself a favor. Go to 1498 The Spice Affair now and go often! Lloyd and the whole staff will take excellent care of you. Tell them Kevin (the American) sent you.

This restaurant makes the best pork Vindaloo that I have ever tasted. I have eaten in some of the most renowned eastern cuisine establishments and I can say without a shadow of doubt that the flavour is out of this world and that the succulent chunks of meat melted in my mouth. The wine list is also handsome and I particularly enjoyed the Indian Shiraz offered to me by the jolly host and his team. Don't take my word for it, try it yourself.

The food is fabulously tasty along with a friendly attentive staff, it makes for a really unique and great dining experience. The spices are subtly infused and allows the fusion of Portuguese and Indian (otherwise known as Goan) cuisine to shine through. I highly recommend The Spice Affair. Long may they be part of the Red Lion Hotel experience.

The Indian cottage used to be the best Indian in town, but that sadly closed, this how now taken the reins as the best Indian spalding has. Flavour is always amazing, the meat is always on point, sauces/breads/poppadoms always top notch! Even the chips are decent but not many go to an Indian for the chips. 5/5

Food, staff and restaurant absolutely superb. Went not knowing what to expect and unbelievably surprised. The best I've had for many years. Will be making sure it becomes my second home.

Wednesday curry night, 12 quid for mixed starter , poppadoms pickles, main course, side, rice and naan. We are picky gluten free types and were readily catered for. Best Indian food since visiting India, maybe better. Coffee creamers are a bit retro :) One of the best meals I've had in a while.

Fabulous Birthday meal. Six of us pre booked, so that we could all be enlightened with the new menu. (re visit for the 9th time) Started with the cod croquettes, served with small salad and a dual dip. Yum. For main had the paneer masala, then added in a black bean daal which was amazing. Finished off with a strawberry flute. Recommended for friendly staff who don't hurry you. Lovely drinks the Red lion bar (adjoining). Good comfortable seating. Please visit when you have time, I'd thoroughly recommend it

Just the best curry house I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The wonderful, oh-so-tasty food is a fabulous fusion of Portuguese and Indian. My wife and I have dined here many times now and ALWAYS had superb food and very attentive service and yesterday we tried the lunchtime thali for the first time - a platter of curries and breads and rice - scrumptious. So, if your taste buds are in need of a Spring tingle, try The Spice Affair - the chicken Xaccuti is amazing. Goan, give it a go!

All Indian restaurants are not the same, this one is extra special in offering fantastic authentic Goan cuisine, choose from the chefs signature dishes, or the special Goan curry menu, or as an introduction try the "made in England" part of the menu, for me the pork vindaloo ticks all the right boxes delicious spices offering lots of flavour.Good range of starters all nicely presented by very pleasant staff who take time to talk to customers about the dishes on offer, owner head chef Lloyd, when time permits, leaves the kitchen to chat to diners making the experience even more enjoyable. All in all highly recommended and well worth a visit.

Fantastic food always guaranteed. Really tasty, and not greasy like many other similar restaurants. Service also great and not too intrusive.

Spice Affair is the restaurant that Spalding has been crying out for. I've been here for twenty years and this is the best Indian restaurant Spalding has had in that time. It specialises in traditional Indian cooking with a Goan influence. Packed with taste and served by very friendly staff. I couldn't recommend it more.

The food is always delicious from this restaurant. There is lots of meat in the currys and is really tender. The rice dishes are lovely and full of flavour

Small restaurant at the back of a classic English pub/hotel (The Red Lion). Really good Goan cuisine, not your normal Indian food but available if you want it. In fact your typical Indian dishes are on the menu under "Made in England". Try the lababdaar prawns or the Espetada de leitao.
