What a lucky find! We had given up on finding a place to eat on a Sunday night due to restaurants being fully booked or not serving food - decided to buy some pizzas to cook at home but on the way back, got a waft of the food from The Box. We swiftly decided to abandon our pizzas and get some food from here. Thank goodness we did! This saved our evening! The lady cooking our food was so characterful and knowledgeable about her food and clearly has such passion for it. The food was so fresh and not at all greasy. The prawn curry was incredible with huge prawns picked up from the local market and a decent number in each curry pot! Great portion sizes too! We were kindly given extras too such a pot of squash curry and salad and a abundance of naans and popadoms. Overall, this was fantastic!
I have had takeaways from Jewel in the Box a few times. The food is superb, so flavoursome and fresh and a great sized portion. I’ve introduced a few friends to it and without exception they have loved it, using the words ‘amazing’ and ‘ still raving it about it the next morning’ . Well done Julie.
Give it a try folks, you won’t regret it 😀
Been to the street food Friday pop ups a couple of times and have loved them! Such a fun idea and really yummy food. The black dog deli guys are really nice too:)
We’ve had curries twice from here and both times were absolutely delicious! Generous portions, really well spiced/flavoured and good value. A real gem, definitely worth ordering from on your next southwold visit.
Went twice today to The Box. In the morning, they had a great range of top quality artisan bakery items including an excellent walnut and date bread, and a really tasty raspberry and chocolate tart. Certainly as good as the other excellent artisanal bakery in Southwold.
Then tonight we went back for ‘The Jewel in the Box’ - which was equally excellent. We ordered several different dishes and each was tasty and generous in portion. Julie’s clearly a very good chef and is doing a great job running this lovely little business.
Always a pleasure going to the box. Breads amazing.
Such interesting flavours, for both vegetarians and meat eaters! Great selection for a picnic.
Ordered bread and baked goods from Penny Bun Bakery and picked them up here. Incredible incredible bread. The chorizo twists particularly amazing.
This place is definitely worth a try if you are in Southwold. Julie is very friendly, the food is fresh and amazing. We loved it.
Went to southwold last Saturday and found the box by accident, was I glad we did, date and walnut bread superb, along with other pastries and sweet treats we bought, not to mention the Bungay raw butter. Will return next time in southwold. The locals are very lucky !!!!!!.
What a fantastic find! Incredible selection of lovely breads and sweet and savoury treats. Beer bacon and chilli jam swirl is a work of genius. Gent who ran the place was incredibly friendly and helpful.
Now doing curries and noodles… really helpful and friendly chef / manager.
Catered well for allergens
Both the bakery and Julie's curries are fab
Best baked goods around. Every Saturday is a real treat. Phenomenal staff too.
Food was excellent and really good value. Will definitely be back again
On a Saturday, the best bakery by far in Southwold, also sells beef from Henstead Marsh Farm.
We had tandoori salad box for lunch. Generous portions and totally delicious.
