After winning a night in the new suite at The Full Moon at Morton, we decided to have an evening meal with friends to make a full evening of it. The food was beautiful and service was outstanding, we were made to feel very welcome.
After a lovely evening we went to the suite which we found to be luxurious and tranquil.
All in all we would highly recommend the Full Moon for both food and accommodation .
Wow! I cannot recommend this place enough!! We had our wedding here yesterday and had the most amazing day! The place looked absolutely stunning and everyone commented how delicious the food was! Cathy and the team couldn't of done more. If you're looking for a beautiful and intimate wedding venue with tons of charm then this is the place to go! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Love the Cottinghams xxx
A great afternoon tea for my mum's birthday. Great selection of sandwiches and cakes. As always kind and attentive staff. My mum loved it.
Lovely food with a great menu. Warm and cosy atmosphere. Definitely would go there again for food or just a drink with friends.
Visitied here a number of times for Sunday lunch and went today with a group of us, 6 children in total. Facilities, food and service was excellent. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you for a lovely afternoon
My husband treated me to a birthday lunch at the Full Moon yesterday the food was delicious and the service was excellent. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we would definitely be making a return visit.
We had a lovely time and had the afternoon tea! The food was perfect. The staff are very friendly & helpful!
My daughter and niece both aged 2 loved the children's toy cupboard which is neatly tucked away in a little corner! The outdoor play area is fab too! will definitely visit again and recommend :-)
Excellent staff, great service, fab food. Always accommodate food allergies . Highly recommended l.
My sister had her wedding here on 02/12/2017 and it was perfect. Kate isn’t on Facebook but she wanted me (her sister) to thank Cathy, Paul and the whole team for everything they did to make her and Jason’s day so special. The food was delicious, the room looked stunning and everyone there made us feel welcome and special. Kate, Jason and the whole family can’t thank you enough for making everyone’s day more spectacular than we could have imagined.
Had my 60 th birthday family meal there superb food lovely pub
Lovely warm pub, great place to eat with friends. Great food!
Lovely lovely pub. Amazing bar snacks. Came here on a day trip with Newark CAMRA and this pub stood out. Will return as soon as I can.
Lovely little pub, great food and very kid friendly with a brilliant toy cupboard!
Very nice good service and good quality will be going back
Food was so fresh home cooked and well presented pie of the day and pan fried liver and bacon was delicious deserts tasty and well presented will definitely be returning . Staff were attentive and the pub has a lovely warm friendly atmosphere I suggest booking table before hand .
Overall the starters were very good in flavour, though there was nowhere near enough chutney so by half way through we were left eating only dry bread and pate which was a little dissapointing.
Time for mains, My Posh Kebab and burger were very nice. The Posh Kebab was presented well and the flavours were full and enjoyable. My only slight critisim was the salmon, though tasty was a bit overdone and dry, mopping up some of the yoghurt helped though. I would advise this portion size of the kebab is a little smaller than I would want for a main, more of a light lunch size. I would reccomend adding a side of fries at the very least so I was glad to have ordered the burger too.
The Moon Burger was meaty, moist and thoroughly enjoyable. The bacon on it was thick cut (not the usual paper thin rashers you tend to get these days) and cooked to a perfection. The beef was coarse, well seasoned, and had a real good bite with a nice amount of caramelisation on the outside. Given the choice I would have had it cooked slightly rarer but it was good none the less.. Coleslaw was crisp, and fresh as were the fries. The only real down side was the board it was served on. Food served on bits of wood look great on Instagram but it is a real pet hate of mine and in this case the board was so slim I had food falling off all over the place. I transfered it all over to the plate once my kebab was finished, eating a juicy burger trying to catch any drips on such a small area would have been messy at best.
On to the fish pie my wife ordered. Now this was a massive dissapointment. At £18.95 Expectations were high. There was a severe lack of fish with just a few small prawns, the taste was very bland and even with adding salt throughout it just lacked any flavour. There was the slightest hint of celeriac and little carrot in the mash which was dry and not creamy at all. The depth of the dish it was served in was very shallow, and any white sauce there was in the mix was watery. The dish was not visually appealing at all. The seasonal vegetables were mangetout, broccoli and green beans, all very overdone, limp with no seasoning, again flavourless. As we were not asked how the food was and couldn't get the eye of a server my wife perservered and ate it rather than wait for a possible offer of a replacement.
Desserts were a bit on the confusing side. My hot chocolate was luke warm and the 'crushed' biscoff was not crushed just the whole biscuit plonked on the top. Rather difficult to eat with or without the spoon and the only option was to get my fingers in to pick it up (good job it wasn't hot after all) very watery taste too. Maybe toasting the marshmallows would have been a nice touch.
The sticky toffee pudding was nothing to write home about, a bit on the stodgy side if anything . The vanilla ice cream was average.
This is my wifes favourite go to pudding if on a menu but not one we would order again here.
The brownie was very rich and indulgent but again a shift from the menu in that the 'vanilla' ice cream was not vanilla but some sort of salted/honeycomb type offering. Nice ice cream but not what the menu said.
Apart from the texture of the brownie being a bit to pasty for me it was enjoyable.
Overall the service was polite and friendly, though a little more attention in asking if everything is ok early in the meal would improve this experience rather than after the food had been eaten.
The Pecking Orders Final Verdict
A perfectly pleasant country pub with some decent offerings. A little over priced and under delivered on some dishes but for a everyday meal we would go back to try more of the menu. Perhapse not one for a special occassion based on this visit.
Sticking to or advising of changes/missing items on the menu would be preferable and being asked if everything was ok before we had finished each course would have been nice.
A small discount for the fish pie would have also been appreciated.
Excellent food , good price and atmosphere on a Friday is ambient. Great singer .
Drinks are a fair price too ♥️
Lovely place to visit, fish and chips were fantastic. Once you've been you'll definitely go again.
The food is absolutely beautiful, couldn’t fault it and the menu is so varied. I would rate the food 5 star! But the service was not great! we sat and waited 25 minutes to order, then about 15 minutes for the food to appear which was excellent and quick! But I had to chase up the drinks which hadn’t arrived and the cutlery which also hadn’t arrived… twice. Another 10 minutes later and I was able to tuck into the food, I’m glad it must have come out piping hot because it was still hot when I got cutlery to eat it. To be fair, I didn’t officially complain other than to ask where my cutler and drinks were twice, but at the end of the meal, Ethan the manager came over and apologized and comped our drink’s explaining he could see that it wasn’t acceptable even without us saying anything about what had happened which made me think it’s not the normal experience here and he does care about getting it right.
Staff are really friendly. We had a few bits from the two course menu. All enjoyed! Portion sizes are good and food is delicious. Atmosphere was really nice. Would go again!
Beautiful in village location, modern decor and a lovely outside area for eating and another outdoor area is a play area. My beef was properly cooked but chewy and not especially tasty. Roasts were a bit overcooked. Gravy was good. Sticky Toffee pudding was very good. Staf very friendly and helpful.
Superb afternoon tea, sandwiche choice great; tuna, prawn, coronation chicken, cheese with pickle, cheese and tomatoe. Scones with jam and cream, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate brownie and sherry triple. Dietry needs discussed for individuals beforehand and taken into account. Nothing too much trouble for staff. Made us feel comfortable and relaxed. Didn't rush us. Would strongly recommend. Will be back.
We had a family meal here after various good reports. We were looked after and the food was spot on. The whole event was relaxed and un rushed and we would definitely return. The selection of food gave us plenty of nice options but unfortunately we couldn't try them all. I personally would have had any off the different meals we all enjoyed.
1st visit, Friday fish night 2 courses £25, 3 course £30. Had mussels for starter which were superb and surprised at the size of the portion, beer battered haddock, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce for main which was cooked to perfection. Good lively village atmosphere with live accoustics from 6.30 til 9.00. Will definitely return, booking recommended.
