A proper pub. We stopped by for a mid-afternoon pint whilst trying to walk off some of our excessive lunch at The Suffield. A smattering of locals were propping up the bar on a Monday, the fire was blazing, it was comfortable and there was a good range of ale on handpull. All very satisfying.
This is a hidden gem tucked away in a little village not far from the coast. It's a homely pub with real character and very welcoming. We booked ahead and glad we did as it was busy. The menu is wide and varied but not too much so and contains lots of good home cooked type food. It was delicious, decent sized portions but not enormous π. The service was very friendly as were the staff. Check it out, you'll not be disappointed.
First time at the Vernon Arms, we had a warm friendly smile from members of the staff, menu had very good selection to choose from, we were a party of 4, the Black & Tan beef Guinness ale pie was excellent, the pie was full of beef with a thin crusty pastry topping, you could have vegetables or chips with minted mushy peas, we all had a very enjoyable meal and will definitely return.
Would highly recommend.
There were 6 of us including two young ones. We were welcomed and quickly down our table and then the usual request for drinks. Our order was taken and at about 7 our food arrived. The meat and ale pie was sensational! The staff were good and could not have been more helpful but it took longer than I expected for the food to arrive. The Bailey's cheesecake was brilliant. The place was heaving and very popular the food was really good. I had the chickpea curry and it was nowhere near as good as the pies. It's worth the wait and we are going again.
The food is excellent. The staff are brilliant. The place is well run it is a very nice place to visit. Me and the wife loved it ππ
Really friendly staff and I loved the food. I asked for extra custard 'swimming' with my pud and they didn't let me down. All delicious and my first meal in a pub alone and felt very comfortable
The Vernon is a great pub, the staff are all lovely and very helpful. There is a good variety on the menu, quite reasonable. I really cannot fault this pub in any way. Roaring fire in main room . 10/10 in my books.

Great Beer and cider. Friendly helpful staff. Great food. Good prices. We will be returning.
Had a lovely meal with friends at Vernon Arms. Warm, cosy pub with welcoming atmosphere. Staff were very attentive. Enjoyed listening to the folk singers there, too. My only tiny criticism is the limited vegetarian choices.
Enjoyed a great celebration meal.
Pies are fantastic but an extra slice of toast with the pate would have made a nicer balance.
Would certainly go again
Fantastic food, very friendly staff. Big open fire very welcoming on a wet, cold and windy day. Very dog friendly too.
Loved it. 100% recommend!!
12 of us visited this lovely pub as part of my Mothers 80th Birthday celebrations. What a great find. Food was delicious and reasonably priced and lovely, attentive staff. Such a shame it is a 2 and half hour drive away from home as would definitely return.

Lovely big open fire. The food was delicious and the young barmaids and waitresses were very helpful and helped with food choices due to my allergies.
We went for a drink at lunch and came back in the evening for food.
The only negative was the older woman with the blonde shoulder length bob. Miserable, abrupt and bordering on rude when trying to talk to her.
Get rid of her and the pub would be highly recommended and the chefs produced lovely food.
Nice little pub.
Good atmosphere and staff.
Fire was lovely and welcoming on a cold day.
Loved the roast potatoes.
Lovely pub, delicious food and friendly staff. Dog friendly too π
It has been some time since I was here for a lunchtime, but what a very warm welcome, very festive and the deep fried Brie - OMG it was gorgeous. Will be booking for an evening meal very soon, hope the fire is still well ablaze, super cozy
Wonderful food ..staff...and atmosphere...very friendly and accommodating at such short notice. .superb Sunday roast ..and fish and chips...will come again.
Friendly and efficient staff. Good beer (try the Southwold) Well cooked and tasty food. We had the potted crab and the baked plaice. Good selection of wines sold by the glass. Prices are a bit on the high side. Stylish and very clean toilets. Book in advance as the place is popular with locals.
Excellent menu at very reasonable prices. Had the "Black and Tan" meat pie. One of, if not the best, I have ever had. Full of chunky beef and an unctuous gravy!! Friendly staff. Only negative was no J20 drinks. Other than that a definite place to go for a drink or a meal.
