I had never been here before as I'm not a Southend native so did my early pubbing elsewhere. Came for lunch today and really was pleasantly surprised. The beer garden is lovely, a real sun trap. My almost 4 year old loved the fake grass. Food was really good and the kids menu was perfect. Can I suggest you put the kids menu online as we weren't aware you had one! Will be back for lunch in the future.

Favourite pub. Easy to get served, good prices, great food and cocktails, and the staff are absolutely lovely.
I have been going to the Alex for over 10 years, it's my favourite pub in Essex, great food great company.
Although if you have a comedy night again please check the material of the comedians as I found some jokes inappropriate and in bad taste.
Just a short walk off the main high street you'll find one of the last traditional looking pubs left in Southend. That offer a variety of entertainment live bands upstairs and karaoke in the main bar on a Friday night. There is a out door beer garden with a pool table and there is live sport playing on a variety of TV screens around the pub.
On arrival we were met with a nice door lady who ushers us in. Ordering drinks at the bar grazing the food menu. We asked the bar maid if the wings were good and she said she was vegetarian but the cauliflower wings were good. We ordered a sharing platter and a plate of cauliflower wings.
The food was traditional fried food, but tasted great after a few drinks definitely enough for two.
Was great and we will be back.
Enjoyed our Saturday unlimited brunch, upgraded our drinks and wings, great afternoon, Paris and Couch were great and always made sure we had everything as its 2 hours. Will definitely return.
Great bottomless Brunch served by Couch! Cocktails were amazing and he kept them flowing. There were no empty glasses before he came offering the next. Food was excellent and the atmosphere were perfect.
Great atmosphere. Fantastic food and excellent range of drinks. Really enjoyed our afternoon here. Not the cheapest place around by any means but worth paying a bit more for a slightly nicer clientele and vibe. Dogs are welcome.
The service was great (I think it was a gentleman called Cal who was super helpful). He talked us through menu questions and was attentive throughout. One of us had allergy issues and they accommodated well. Food portions were decent and reasonably priced.
Staff were incredible with my allergy, which wasn’t one of the 14 main ones. They checked everything and was able to fully customise my meal to suit me. Lots of different options for both meat eaters and vegetarians

Popped in for a quick drink after work. Good friendly staff. Service was good, the beer was cold and clear as it should be.
Absolutely fantastic service and food. Loved the perfect all day breakfast and the drinks flowed all through our time slot. Special mention to Anna and Ross who were Absolutely amazing and so attentive throughout our time. Perfect afternoon and thanks so much.
It was good we could watch both the cricket and the England game simultaneously albeit without sound. Never understand sportsbars that fo that. The upstairs area wasn't open otherwise we would have used that, They only had doombar bitter on. But that said I had a good couple of hours there and the staff we friendly and helpful

TL;DR Ambience, food and service all super lovely!
Location is just a road off from the high street and town centre. The interior is comfortable, and there’s a variety of events throughout the week that they have.
I’ve come here twice now and the food has always been delicious. First time around was burgers and fries. Second time around is with the photo below.
The thing that catches my eye is the complimentary drink and fries (extra cost for different fries), which is such a great price! Most places you would have to get your own drink/chips with a separate cost. The draught schweppes really has also won my heart here.
Second time we got small bites, also known as ‘It’s going to get messy!’ The halloumi skewers was generous, the cod tacos with the beet root tortilla was decent, the Korean bbq chicken was very crispy and good, only thing to say is the calamari sticks were a tad saltier than I would’ve preferred. But overall very yummy.
Service was really lovely especially the second time around there was a lady that checked up on us whilst we were eating to ensure it was all good, etc.
I would recommend it!
This place was fantastic! The bottomless brunch is a must. £25 for 2 hours of great cocktails and great food!! Plus the service was excellent, usually at bottomless brunch places they’re not that great at topping up your drinks but Charlena was an absolute queen making sure we were always sorted 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Really friendly polite staff. Visited on a Monday si it was quiet, but the atmosphere was relaxed. Cocktails are tasty, food is tasty! Great place to go :)
8 of us decided to go to the Alex for a bottomless brunch on bank holiday and it was amazing. The service and value for money was absolutely brilliant. Charlena, our server, was fantastic and made our experience 100 times better!
