The best cod and chips I have had in a long time. Nice and crispy, not greesy, fresh fish, and very tasty. Chips followed suit, will definitely recommend and visit again to try the haddock.

The place was very clean, the staff were very attentive(Thank you) and me and the good lady had large Cod and chips with curry sauce which was very nice and freshly cooked to order.
I can confirm without any doubt that this place is well worth a visit for your seaside fish and chips 👌🏻
Down to Southend for Dexys gig (excellent!) at Cliffs Pavilion on Sunday . Free parking after 6pm (used to be 9pm huh????) now.. But Rossi Cafe stop hot food at 6..so googled Van Looy’s and had nice walk and warm welcome and great cod & Chips. Thanks for being open on Sunday!! If you want excellent fish n chips, in or out, just come here. 👍
The food here was delicious, we ordered haddock, plaice and a cod for my child all with chips. I had mushy peas and plaice. The food was well cooked and seasoned, lovely crispy battery, and tasty fish and the chips was tasty too.
We loved it, great atmosphere and amazing location. Staff were inviting, welcoming and attentive.
It is right opposite the train station and by the town centre, which is convenient, and very clean toilets downstairs. Totally recommended and will be back on another visit!
Medium cod chips and saveloy and 2 cans of diet pepsi. At just over £35 very expensive. No other items were ordered .I would say cod was small and a very thin fillet. However, it was perfectly cooked,not greasy and batter was the lightest and crispiest ever tasted. Chips were lovely. Piping hot. Service very quick and staff friendly. This is not a fancy restaurant, more casual cafe style.

Ordered 2 lightly battered, well done haddock’s. Lovely pieces of fish cooked the way we like them, generous portion of beautiful chips as well. A lovely meal enjoyed in our hotel room.

Great fish and chips by Southend Central station. Friendly service by the manager, we were very happy with the fresh and delicious haddock fish and chips at £14 a portion (medium chips) to take to the beachfront. Would buy from there again!
Excellent fish and chips at very reasonable prices in a traditional cafe environment. I now always come here for fish and chips when in Southend . The fish and chips are always cooked to perfection and always seems to come straight out of the fryer.. The staff are always pleasant and there is even a small selection of alcoholic drinks available. This place has rightly earned a place in many people's affections. Update 1st March 2023 - still excellent. You can't give wrong with the Fish and Chios here.
