This place is a hidden gem! Great friendly staff, amazing food and cheeky cocktails....literally the best beef wellington I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried a lot!!! We will definitely be returning. Thanks x
Another visit to this fantastic place where the atmosphere is first class, the food is first class and the service is first class... and as always I wasn't disappointed this visit either....I opted for the Chicken An Chestnut Pie Mash and Peas which I highly recommend others at the table of 8 also chose well and thoroughly enjoyed their meal... if you havnt been here you need to go .... a restaurant that has remained fabulous for many many years with a vast selection of wines and amazing staff knowledge of which wine goes with which meal to best compliment it... THANKYOU all for a great evening
What an amazing place, went for diner with family last night had a fantastic meal food was gorgeous, staff very friendly, great atmosphere, would definitely recommend and be going back again.
Visited last minute yesterday evening as a table of 2 walk in. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by an extremely happy and helpful chap with a beard who made us feel comfortable straight away. This in Southend is a breath of fresh air. They were massively accomdating to celiacs, 10/10 service and the food and wine was delicious. I'd eat here every day if I could.
Our first time to the Pipe,of Port, and definitely not our last. We went for lunch. I had the lunchtime steak, kidney and mushroom pie, which was melt in the mouth, followed by Lemon Meringue pie, highly recommended. My partner had a ploughman’s, and chose to have it with cheddar, Stilton and rare beef. Delicious 😋 All washed down with a lovely cold bottle of white.
The staff were extremely polite, professional and welcoming.
Can’t wait to go back for dinner, and also to try a tasting event.
An absolute gem of a place. Authentic surroundings, the food was outstanding, as was the wine. Thank you to the Pipe of Port team. And this clearly is a team that pulls together from start to finish to deliver top service. We had the best evening. Thank you Debbie et al!
Tried here for the first time today! What an amazing little place! The staff are really friendly and the wine and food are great!!
The food here is soo good even the mains and my vegetarian companion said options for vegetarians are exquisite especially the veg Wellington, cheesy potatoes and seasonal veg encrusted in the lightest of puff pastry case. I had the fish pie which was soo good consist of a variety of seafood. Such a welcoming atmosphere and the staff are soo friendly. Definately a place that people need to try 😁.
First visit to Southend..........this restaurant was a wonderful find! A unique experience. Superb food and a fabulous wine / drinks list. Highly recommend.
Been going for years, never a disappointing dining experience.
Attentive,friendly staff and superior food.
My only minor complaint is no coronation chicken as a starter anymore :(
I have attended two wine tastings here (so far), the Bordeauxs and Sherries. Really enjoyable evenings and excellent value. Staff are so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They also endeavoured to find out if the wines were vegan before the evenings, which they were, so all in all, very successful, thank you.
Excellent all round, food, wine, atmosphere, service, was lucky enough to get a booth as someone had just cancelled, will come again.... Soon
Been going to the Pipe of Port for years. I particularly love the Chicken and Chestnut pie, unfortunately it means that I don't get to try the other lovely things on the menu. I love the pate starter too. Service is excellent too.
This is such a traditional, atmospheric Restuarant. Our host, Fay, looked after us so well. I had the steak and kidney pie with jacket potato, fabulous! Of course I started with white port, very nice and good measure. Sawdust on the floor is a great touch. Comprehensive wine list. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to this cosy Restuarant 👍
Had an enjoyable meal here catching up with friends. Menu is not overly extensive but sufficient choice for most tastes.
The only thing I felt let down the meal was lack of included side dishes. I had one of the pies that only came with a potato choice. A friend had the fish pie and that was all she got. A small serving of vegetables with each would have made it better. Service was attentive and friendly
Great little restaurant with traditional decor. I love the sawdust on the floor, and the candle light. Food was perfect, and exactly as I remembered it from years ago. Definitely worth a visit
One of my favorite restaurants in Southend. Absolutely lovely food. Wine is superb. Wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Fantastic
Lovely atmosphere friendly cheerful staff
Excellent food and drink
Would highly recommend
Great food and service, it's like stepping back in time to the City wine bars of old without having to travel up to town. An absolute delight
Popped in to see what it was like and stayed for a glass of wine and they have a good choice. Great place to visit olde world style with sawdust on the floor. Will visit again to try out the restaurant seems like a nice choice of meals.
Absolutely beautiful food, staff faultless, extremely happy with choice of venue and food. Guys visit this place you won't be disappointed.
To all the idiots that want a.£1,000 Mel for £90 get a grip, go up to London and pay silly prices, don't be on here slagging off local businesses trying to succeed- and do you know what go and find better!!!
Scott (southend)
I can't fault this place. The best in Southend. For good food and fine wine, you will be hard pushed to beat this restaurant. Food well prepared and presented. Very helpful, polite, friendly staff. A real treat every time.
This place is such a gem, my partner and I love it! Staff were friendly and inviting - wine was fantastic! I especially like how each dish has a suggested wine pairing, it's an awesome touch!
