The Bucks Head appeared as a little slice of Heaven to my friend and I after a very wet, cold walk across the South Downs. They welcomed us in, showed us to our lovely rooms (me downstairs, her upstairs) and were at pains to ensure we had all we needed before leaving us to the joy and luxury of the wonderful power showers and baths with endless hot water.
Each room had its own en-suite. Each one beautifully decorated and appointed with lots of helpful extras. The bedrooms were similarly stocked with tea & coffee etc etc (though it was also easily obtained in the bar. The rooms were far enough from the bar that we weren’t disturbed, but still part of the main pub so I felt comfortable goin in in stockinged feet!
After our ablutions the manager Luke had reserved us a cosy corner table in the pub, near to one the two open fires. All the tables were candle-lit, and a large glass of wine and one of the magnificent house specialty pizzas each helped dissolve away any remaining stresses from our cold, wet walk.
We went to bed and slept soundly all night on the very comfortable mattresses. In the morning our respective choices of cooked breakfast were waiting for us at the pre-arranged time, and this, plus another incredibly helpful bar manager -Liam- meant that we set off on the next stretch of our walk two very different women from the shivering drowned rats who had arrived the previous day.
I know it sounds like I work for them, but I assure you I don’t! I just don’t have enough words to express how special this place and its two managers were. I haven’t even mentioned the special boot drier, the helpful tumble drying, the local taxi advice and how the whole place is designed with walkers in mind - right down to the flooring! Seriously, don’t even think about staying anywhere else. To miss out on this little gem would be madness. We will be back for sure.
👉 Cozy place 😌 ✨️ lovely stuff 😊 💕 tasty food 🤌🍕🥮
This lovely countryside restaurant provide the perfect pizza. Sunday out we taste it in between 3pm end 6pm.
A really good country pub with some great views
Not tried the food yet but it looks good
An update will be added
My mate got a pint with lipstick on the glass, that was replaced with a warm glass and eventually a fresh drink with a bit of an attitude, young chap with dark rimmed glasses, could do better!
Update. I've made this up to 5⭐ as the glasses were immaculate this time and the staff were incredibly friendly
The pizza looks great as well, I'll be trying it next time
A stop for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Fairly busy with a running club seated outside so we headed indoors.
A bit of a confusing set up, you arrive in a small hallway with unmarked doors, one leading to toilets and rooms and the other led into the bar area. We waited for a moment but staff were busy coping with the running club so we wandered into the bar area, unsure whether to wait to be seated or just find a table - we prompted for the latter.
Coffee was offered and we checked out the menu. After a short while our choices were taken and our coffee arrived. Flat white and black coffee.
We chose the brunch burger and an avocado and eggs. Both very tasty.
Plenty of seating outside and a decent size carpark across the road. Quirky and friendly, not a bad choice for brunch.
Lovely pub, very friendly staff and customers! The menu speciality is homemade sour dough pizzas made in the fab pizza oven. The pub has a great atmosphere, we visited on a sat night, good job we pre booked a table as the pub was full. Our waitess was so friendly and professional, we could have chatted to her all night! Also very good prices for a pub with such high levels of food amd service. Has an outdoor eating area, heated and covered for all weathers, free parking across the road, and does accommodation, which we may try one day. It's definitely worth a visit!
Came up here for a late Sunday lunch. We had prebooked which was just as well seeing as it was very busy and popular. The food was lovely, well cooked and hot. The portions were huge and the service was great. It was a very nice meal and staff were attentive. It seemed to me that nothing would be too much trouble for them.
My boyfriend and I are known for our love of pizza and have therefore tried a lotttt. We both agreed that these were one of, if not THE nicest pizzas we've ever had, and that's saying something. The sourdough base was phenomenal, the toppings very generous (ask for garlic butter on the side as that was incredible too and excellent with the crusts!) and a good selection of pizzas to choose from. We can't comment on any of the other food (yet), but the menu sounded and looked excellent.
Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere of the pub was great too. We will 100% be back and recommending this pub to others. We also look forward to sitting in the cosy outside area once it gets warmer!
Quintessential English pub in a quiet setting on a river full of trout next to an ancient church. Specialising in sourdough pizza. I was honestly blown away by the quality of the food. Ordered the salt and pepper squid and it was the best I remember tasting! Pizza and fish and chips enjoyed by the family also of authentic high quality.
Beautiful pub in beautiful surroundings. Visited early afternoon during the week. Was very quiet but we enjoyed that! Pub is lovely inside and staff very friendly and attentive. Enjoyed a great pizza and hopefully will return again soon.
Ordered 5 pizzas to take away they were very good indeed. Quality ingredients a generous amount of toppings one of the best I have had
I would definitely recommend
Liegt sehr ruhig.

Is very quiet. The room was fairly newly renovated and good. Especially since the hotel is right on the South Downs Way (~1km / 0.7mi). The pub has a really great atmosphere and was busy in the evenings. The pizza must be a hit in the area. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Lovely pub, great service, quiet
A great place for dinner before the overnight ferry from Portsmouth. Delicious food, lots of locally sourced produce, friendly and attentive service, and a beautiful location. No wonder it's popular!
Will I eat and drink here again, ' yes please '
3rd visit, 2nd pizza. Again, didn't fail to excite those taste buds.
Lovely Pub with friendly staff and good food. Perfect after club walk at Meon Valley Trail around old Winchester Hill 😁
Lovely place, great staff, mostly the food was good...found my roast abit dry and hard to cut, potatoes, parsnip and beef...could do with a steak knife and more gravy otherwise would have been 5 stars!!
Great value pub restaurant set in the meon valley. Our meals were very slightly delayed and the manager without any input from our group , offered to take a round of drinks off the bill. Amazing customer service and the views and meals were outstanding.
Elvino Ramos served us and he was very friendly, had a great chat! Drinks were delicious and great atmosphere in the heart of Camden
