I recently visited Red Dog Saloon in Southampton and, let me tell you, it was a game changer for my burger expectations! I went for their peanut butter burger and, honestly, it was a taste revelation. The creamy, nutty flavor of the peanut butter melded perfectly with the juicy burger, creating a combo that’s truly out of this world. Who knew peanut butter on a burger could be so good?
Their menu is quite the feast for the eyes too, especially their sharing platters. Whether you're with friends or family, these platters are a fantastic way to sample a bit of everything.
To cap off a hearty meal, their sticky pudding is a must-try. It's rich, decadent, and just the right kind of sweet—a perfect end to a delightful meal.
And I can't wrap up without mentioning the staff. They were incredibly friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. If you're in the area, don't skip out on Red Dog Saloon. It's a spot that combines great flavors with a fun vibe and stellar service.
I have been looking for an American BBQ restaurant for a while and have previously visited Smith & Western in Chichester (not so great these days), the Red Dog Saloon is absolutely amazing. There are lots of different food options but being our first visit we opted for one of the BBQ platters (minimum of two people) so that we could try a bit of everything. It was hard to pick a favourite item off the platter as everything was just so tasty. We decided not to go for starters or sides as we were warned by friends that the platter is substantial and they were right! They smoke their meats onsite out the front of the restaurant which is a nice touch. The drinks menu is vast with a huge whisky and tequila section, I had a beer which came in a stein glass and my partner had a cocktail both were very good. We will be returning to try other things on the menu and would highly recommend to others.
I recently attended this place for the first time, namely in December. It was very crowded and from what I saw, the members of staff excelled in team work, such as bringing food to people and communicating with the chef to ensure that people got exactly what they wanted. Owing to the amount of people who were present at the restaurant, it is evident that the kitchen staff excel in working hard and being efficient. Furthermore, the members of staff serving food were diligent and took the time to smile at people and greet them politely.
The young woman with two plaits in her hair who took our orders was knowledgeable, polite and had impressive communication skills as she had to interact with a large group of people. From what I saw, it might be prudent to book a table in advance.
Getting access to the bar is a bit of a struggle. The members of staff were patient as they had to navigate their way through the sea of people and everyone did their best not to get in the way.
One has to ask for a knife and fork, which I concede makes sense as many people elect to eat with their hands. The portions are generous and the burgers were nicely cooked. We didn't have to wait for a huge length of time for our food. The menu has a variety of options.
The environment is noisy and one might wait for a bit of time for a table to be vacant.
Definitely try the beef brisket and pork rib.
Two of us order 1/2 for each.
I’ll say that it might be the best Texas BBQ I’ve ever had!!
Also recommend the red dog larger beer, you would regret if you did not order it!
Been here a few times and just wow best value, best tasting burgers 🍔 😋 in Southampton. Excellent customer service always friendly and cheerful/helpful. The burgers are amazing, love the buffalo wings and if you have enough room you really should try their fresh milkshakes. For the price you will be hard pushed to find a better place!
Excellent place, we didn't book so had to wait for a table but ended up eating outside as too hot in the restaurant. A very big energy about the place. Cocktails were incredible, food was SUPERB, absolutely delicious and the service was brilliant too. Family friendly too. I'd just be sure to book.
Went for dinner first time at Red Dog Saloon was unreal, been served by Kira, we had platter for 2 which was unreal, bbq meet styles and burger was delicious, our waitress Kira had good knowledge of everything we asked, she was friendly and checked on us couple times if everything was ok or we need anything else. In overall amazing experience, if you meet lover it’s a MUST !!!
This is my place to go, I recommend Red Dog to everyone as the best spot to eat in Southampton, hands down. Authentic Texas style Barbecue food with the decor and scenery to match. Tiago served us again today, service from him is always 10/10. Smoker was broken today so the menu was limited but food was still great!
The Brisket and St Louis Pork Ribs were delicious - beautifully cooked with an incredible flavour. We had the Platter as we wanted to try a selection of the different meats on offer. If we went back we wouldn't do this again, but would specifically order these.
I can imagine the burgers will be tasty.
The Mozzarella Sticks were the best ones we've ever had because they were so homemade and real!!
Our server, Tiago, was attentive and friendly and seemed to be the only staff member that had any form of uniform on. (Red Dog T-Shirt) We felt the staff weren't really dressed appropriately and it was hard to work out who were customers and who were staff.
We shared a Texas Platter which had:
Beef Brisket,
St Louis Pork Ribs,
Pulled Pork,
Hot Links Sausage,
Mozzarella Sticks,
Mac & Cheese
Black Pudding
Beans side
Great meat BBQ restaurant with excellent food, friendly quick service & great tasting speciality Agwa (distilled coca) Mojitos. Happy to recommend & will visit again.
If possible try to order one of their Platters to share (min 2 people)
A nice place for a good meal. We went as a group (make sure you book as it gets busy in peak times), and everyone was happy with their food. There was the odd annoyance about the food, like one person's burger bun was very greasy, another one's bacon was far too well done (not crispy just hard) but other than that the food quality was great, in fact some of the meat served was the best I've seen - so tender and juicy. Very expensive for a meal out though, and they automatically add on the tip (some find this helpful, I think it's cheeky to assume a set gratuity).
The atmosphere is good, if a bit loud due to the customers, but they have background music at a nice level which sets a nice tone.
The staff are lovely and helpful, although they forgot a few drinks and we had to remind them of it.
I will probably go again if invited there, but I wouldn't choose this place myself due to its high prices.
Don’t come here if you expect to pay little. Come here if you want to experience and variety of delicious meats. The menu is huge so I recommend ordering different things and share so you get a taste for it all. Chicken burgers / tenders 10/10 beef burgers 10/10 brisket 9/10 prob ribs 8/10 fries (7/10) from my experiences
We visited on the 27th December for a late lunch, our party was 5 adults and a 7 year old. We were sat in a booth- a bit of a tight squeeze and did result in some kind of elbow jousting game that we could have done without.
We ordered our drinks (a must try is the strawberry and mint margarita) which did take a while to arrive; this was an ongoing issue and most probably down to the fact that their very competent bar man was making drinks for the whole restaurant with 4-5 servers sending through orders all the time.
Our food was amazing, we ordered a platter for 2- this is well worth the price tag and lets you try many different dishes without the headache of trying to choose! Our son had a burger from the kids menu which he devoured (all parents reading this will be well aware of how rare this can be 😂).
We had no room for pudding so cannot comment on these.
I would most definitely recommend this restaurant for their food and drinks but would suggest to the management that they do a bit more training with their FOH staff to tighten up their service to avoid communication issues and a feeling of neglect.
A most excellent dinning experience from the meet and greet to the service and food!
Now, a word about the food…. Simply amazing, if your a meat lover try dinning here. I have been several times and tried several different started and mains. One word of caution, don’t get carried away ordering… you will have to eat it!!
Highly recommend.
They also accept the Blue Light Card.
honestly best burgers/nachos ive ever had in my life, nothing i had before compares, so so good and they give so much food for relatively cheap, i bought a £20 burger (that's the most expensive), the taste was amazing and i couldn't even finish it all even tho i eat a lot, highly reccomend.
I would gladly recommend this place. The food is really good - we were a group of 5 and we had burgers, nachos, chicken wings and chicken popcorn, followed by desserts.
The only downside to our experience was the loud music as we could hardly communicate between us.
Food was great and the service was a bit slow. We had to ask for our cutlery and sauces. A bit of proactivity would go a long way!
