Great street food. A variety including vegetarian was available. Curry chicken was very tasty as was the prawn dish. Lots of interesting drinks with herbs and spices. Services was excellent with friendly waitress.
What a lovely find on a short work trip to Southampton.
Great food served by friendly helpful staff.
This was a cuisine that I had never tried before, and it certainly won't be the last. Next time I'm in Southampton, this is on my list.
My favourite Mauritian restaurant. Every time I’m near Southampton, I always do a little detour to stop by and savour the delicious food and vibrant atmosphere. The staff are incredibly kind and accommodating. There are great gluten-free + vegan options. The house mocktails are sweet and refreshing, highly recommended. As starters we had the dirty fries, pineapple and cassava chips, then moved on to the mains (the names of which I forgot), a chicken curry-like dish and a sweet ‘n’ sour-type salmon, which we swapped for tofu (this was the star dish for us). There is a selection of home-made condiments that can be purchased, which allows to take some of the lovely experience back home.
Dined here many times over the years - always great friendly service and lovely food - that’s a bit different. The starters are amazing - order lots and share them between you . The cari is great - and the kebabs are too. Big portions. The coco bun dessert is amazing and fun - it looks like a burger served in brioche.
First visit and the food was amazing and so tasty. Recommend you book in advance !
Was well worth the drive from London to Southampton. Staff are super friendly and accommodating, was well looked after. The food is mouth watering good. Would have had everything on the menu if I could hehe. Would recommend anyone to pay a visit and to have authentic Mautitian dishes.
A great hidden gem in Soutahmpton.
The staff were super friendly and attentive.
The food was hot and presented beautifully.
The whole restaurant felt welcoming, it was out first time visiting and certainly won't be our last.
When booking they asked us whether we were celebrating an occasion, they went the extra mile by having a little plaque on our table, making extra special for us.
It's not often you come across Mauritian cuisine but this place certainly gives you a great impression of it. Reasonably priced as well.
I heard and read about this restaurant and finally I tried it. Small restaurant with great design and good atmosphere. Friendly service and tasty food. I ordered lamb ribs with octopus and yummy potato. The sauce they serve with potatoes was really good. I ordered one of the traditional drinks as well and it was okay. But the price for food was little bit high for the portion size.
This restaurant never disappoints! The starter is so generous, glad I shared with a friend. The potato bhaji was so delicious and cari chicken main!
Nice little restaurant but crammed. We had the gato pina starter and dirty fries, which were delicious. My partner had the mutton rougaille and enjoyed it very much. I had the chicken mango wrap, which unfortunately was not to my taste. We had the alooda and panakon mocktails, both were tasty and refreshing. The star of the night was the ginger cake with vanilla ice cream, which was exceptional.
Wonderful surprise birthday lunch at the lovely Lakaz Maman. Staff were super friendly and l was very touched by the thoughtful sign.
Wonderful tasty food, loved the spicy green sauce and the carrots. Super filling and can't wait to go again.
Only negative was that it was too chilly to remove my coat.
Well worth visiting!
Unusual menu with some good dishes. Chicken salad with mango and chickpeas was good. Pineapple excellent. Bright and courful decor. Staff were polite, friendly and efficient even when it was very busy.
I had wanted to visit Shelina's restaurant since it opened but living 90miles away made it a trip for a special occasion. We finally visited this weekend and it was absolutely worth the wait!
The restaurant exterior was bright and inviting. COVID-19 procedures were clearly displayed and easy to follow. We were served by a waitress who, despite her face mask, could still be seen greeting us with a warm smile.
We took our seats and began soaking up the cheerful decor. The restaurant was nearly full and it was reassuring to see couples and families of different ages and backgrounds all enjoying Lakaz Maman's cuisine.
There's no alcohol on the menu but a BYO policy with very reasonable corkage charges however we decided to stick with soft drinks and were glad we did. The homemade mango and lime iced tea was sublime; fresh and fruity with just the right amount of sweetness and citrus. My husband's panakon mocktail was equally as good although I wasn't prepared to share!
Our starters arrived beautifully presented and smelt delicious. We were already looking forward to tucking in before the first bite! The Mauritian octopus and pineapple was perfectly tender on the inside but wonderfully crispy. The hot and sour pineapple salsa wasn't overly spicy and complimented the octopus without overpowering it. The anana confit was also delicious; the already exotic pineapple had been deliciously pimped and elevated to a new level with the addition of tamarind, mint and chilli.
Lakaz Maman's mains had a hard act to follow yet managed to hold their own! The "real deal" burger of shredded mutton was perfectly tender, sweet, sticky and rather umptious all round. It was a generous portion and even the fries were nicely seasoned. The gato pima house cari packed a vibrant punch where split yellow peas had been transformed into a spicy ball of crunchy goodness basking in a glorious Creole sauce.
Almost defeated by the generous portions, we decided to share dessert and opted for the roasted pineapple with pistachio and ice cream. It was the perfect end to a fantastic meal.
We left feeling Shelina's vision of sunshine on a plate feeling all the better for it. Lakaz Maman serves no frills and unapologetically authenic food (and drink) for the mind, body and soul. It is very reasonably priced given the quality and we feel all the better for having visited. Thank you to all the team for a perfect 30th birthday lunch.
From the outside, this place looked bleh but the interior was a whole different world! The decor was tastefully done complemented by a chill ambiance.
And of course, the food was fresh and tasty! Our table tried the Chicken Cari(curry), Octopus Curry, Anana Confit, Roti, Prawn Fritters, and two of the mocktails. No one complained because it was that good. In fact, we ordered the Anana Confit twice and bought 2 bottles of the Tamarind Sauce (made in house!)
The staff was also pleasant and very patient 🙂
The food was incredibly fresh and very fragrant. I’m definitely planning on coming back so I can work my way through the menu. I love how we received the cheque. It came in a shell! I love it!
Had been meaning to visit for a while and so glad I did! Loved the cool, bright decor, which gave us good holiday vibes! The food was totally delicious! We shared some of the sharing dishes - the cauliflower poppers were yummy - and a vegetarian main, plenty of choice for vegetarian. My highlight was the "yummy coco bun" dessert which was sensational! Look forward to visiting again.
Came here for a quick breakfast and was so impressed. There were 3 choices (much more for lunch), we had all 3 and they were delicious. I eat a lot of different foods and this was the best breakfast I've had in a long time.
A stacked muffin with an egg on top with bacon and sausage it was really the salsa that made this dish but it was all very tasty.
A slightly spicy tomato and egg (shakshuka style) dish. Full of flavour.
Spiced sweetcorn fritters perfectly seasoned with a lovely dressing.
Very impressed and each dish was only 6.95. Will definitely be back.
