This is by far the best Kerala Cuisine I have had in the United Kingdom. I thought East Ham, London was the place to find the best in South Indian food. But I was wrong. It is this place in Southampton. I went from my firm to University of Southampton for Careers Fair and after the fair, decided to meet up with my old friends. I never knew of this place. But my friends recommended this for dinner and they came along. The staff were very friendly, took our coats and hung it up in the common coat hanger for us. They also gave us good time for deciding what to order as we were a group of 5. We ordered just one started. Vegetable Vizhi. But to our surprise we got a special Dal bajji or something as a complimentary starter. The Vegetable Vizhi is very much like a vegetable spring roll, only tastier. Came with sweet chilli sauce and some dry salad. And the complimentary dish, whose name I do not quite remember, came with some mint sauce. We also gave orders for some drinks, Kobra and Kingfisher, Indian brands brewed somewhere in the Europe. And got ourselves some poppadams till we decided on our main course. 5 of us ordered a variety of dishes, Vazhudananga Curry Kerala Meen Curry (fish curry) Lamb Jalfreezi Garlic Chicken Chicken Biriyani (which comes with some vegetable sauce) Kerala porotta (2 X 2each), Chappati ( 2 X 2 each) Vellappam (2 X 2 each). It took us longer than an hour to finish our epic feast of a meal here. And we were so satisfied and thanking our friends to have brought us along. And despite the fact that we were all so full, we decided to have a dessert. We had mango kulfi. We knew it was too much, but our minds just couldn't stop longing for more from there. All 5 of us attacked the kulfi and finished it in less than 3 minutes. And to top it all we got ourselves two shots of Baileys (though I am not a fan of chocolate flavored liquor, I did have it). After all that hogging the bill came up to about a hundred of which we got about 15% discount as it was our first time with our friends (who were pretty regular there). OMG! I still can't believe I walked out of the restaurant. I was so explodingly (if that was a word) full.

Excellent service and very friendly upon entering the restaurant. Was pleased with how perfect the pappadoms and dips as you can eat them as a starter alone. Great ambience by combining fine dining with traditional Kerala food. Highly urge everyone to come here for the food and the amazing drinks.

Super good Kerala restaurant - great food and service. Tried porotta beef curry and a Biriyani to go. Friendly hotel manager from Kerala who has been running this restaurant for last 14 years. Originally this was opened more than 40 years back by a different restauranteur

Kohinoor was the first restaurant my partner and I ate out at when we moved to Southampton eight years ago. Eight years later, its still the best restaurant in Southampton for us. The food is incredible, and they are able to cater for my (very annoying) allergy, which is a sure indicator that all of the food is cooked fresh, and the vegan options are fantastic. The service is always fantastic, and well worth the price. Kohinoor stands head and shoulders above all other restaurants in Southampton, and if you have to eat at one place I would wholly recommend you make the trip up to Portswood to go here.

Very good cuisine and service was attentive, without being too much. We were fitted in, despite no reservation and thoroughly deserved our meal. We will continue to return, as one of the best around.

Such a lovely evening. Amazing food and they catered for my sister who is vegan by amending a recipe which was amazing. 10/10 would continue going all the time. So nice to be back.

If you want to try spicy Indian chicken biriyani then, this is your place. Restaurant is open only in evening time. Service is good, staffs are friendly. During weekend it will be difficult to get table so book it before. They do take away but it takes 40min so, better order before going shopping or you can relax drinking tea in chaiwala while waiting for your food.

Probably the best Indian in Southampton. It gets very busy at peak times so expect a bit of a wait, but the food is really excellent. I would particularly recommend their kerala paratha as an alternative to naan bread. Also one of the best Vindaloo I have ever had!

The best Indian hands down. Full of flavour in every dish. We went shortly after opening time on a Saturday and it was already packed which was nice as it doesn't look much from the outside and it's uncomfortable if you're the only diners. But the atmosphere was great, it was clean and well kept inside and the food spoke for itself. The chicken korma and the lamb curry were both so tasty, the garlic naan was brushed with fresh butter and there were good helpings of flaked almonds in the pilau and sauces which I love. Cannot beat it and won't be going anywhere else. Staff were also very pleasant, would just have been nice to have a few more smiles which would be my only complaint if being very picky.

Although the decor is dated, the food here is next to none. Service was nice too. My brother and I love this place and every dish we've had was a great hit. Prices were perfectly normal. Dont let the portions fool you, they are very filling. One thing to note is they do get packed, so best make a booking or come early!
