We came from New York for a short vacation. When we couldn’t find good food in fancy restaurants in suburbs we went to South Hall and had best BBQ style desi food. We ordered mutton karahi, mix grill and roghni naans. Everything was awesome. If you’re in London, you gotta try Watan. Excellent service and price is reasonable.

Went there last night with twelve other family and friends. I was bit concerned about their service/attitude after reading other reviews but am glade to report that we had a good service, waiter for pleasant/courteous.
Ordered Afghani mix Grill, Kabuli Palaw, lamb Karahi and chicken Karahi had good time there and would go there again.
Food was exceptionally good, please bear in mind that prices have gone up by 25% since menu was put on this website, still worth it though.

PS: waiter suggested to order more food than we did but he was not to know that we are not very big eaters with big bellies (no offence). More than quarter of food was packed and brought home.

After waiting a good 20 minutes, we finally managed to get a table at this place. The restaurant is small therefore becomes very busy so be prepared to queue.

The best thing about this place is its authentic decor. There is also a fish tank lined against the dining tables so you can watch the tiny goldfish in the tank while you wait for your food to arrive.

I had a quick glance of their menu on Zomato before we drove to this place. However I was a little surprised to find that the prices had slightly increased from what is listed this site when it came to placing our order. Nevertheless, we had lamb afghani, chicken tikka masala, whole grilled chicken with 3 afghani naans. I found the portions of all 3 main dishes to be quite small. Maybe it was because the naans were absolutely huge in comparison. The chicken tikka masala was a little too spicy. The whole grilled chicken was average but I quite enjoyed the lamb afghani as the lamb was moist and tender. For me, it wins the best dish of the evening.

As the restaurant is busy, the service is impacted but the staff are friendly and helpful.

Overall, pretty good restaurant compared to others in the area which offers decent value for money.

After a thirty minute wait, (busy restaurant - not big), we were taken to our table.

Interesting Afghani menu, we had the Afghani mixed grill, very nice tender, succulent pieces of lamb and chicken. Afghani rice maybe, not to my taste, strangely sweet.

Tadka daal was nothing special, spicy when we were expecting mild.

Grilled chicken was nice, French fries crispy and oily. Salted lassi was ok, but the kids loved the mango lassi.

Yes, I would go back, but not anytime soon.

If you are ever planning to eat here, be prepared to wait as this restaurant, although recently opened and small, is quite popular. We waited a good 20 minutes before we got a table.

Ordered a number of dishes - Charsi Chicken Karahi, Maghaz Masala, Daal, Lamb Chops, Behari Kebab, Seekh Kebab Karahi and Mix Tikka.

The lamb chops were so tender. The Seekh Kebab Karahi was something different in taste but I'd prefer Seekh Kebabs instead. The chicken pieces in the mix tikka were wonderful. Behari Kebab was quite alright. Charsi Chicken Kebab tasted nice but I was too full to have more than a piece. The daal was quite try but tasted better with the chutney. I did not try the Maghaz Masala but was told it was really good.

The naans were crisp and tasted good. We also had the Keema Naan which was very tasty but I do not recommend you to take it home and have it the next day; it tastes so bland.

Because the restaurant was busy, they brought some of our drinks and we had to ask them three times till we got the rest.

Make sure you arrive early if you want to dine here. It's above average in taste but quite pricey for the quantity they give you.

I had my daughter’s Aqiqah here in the upstairs section yesterday and everything from the food to the service by the staff was a 1000/10! Super attentive, quick and accommodating and all our guests couldn’t stop talking about how everything was so delicious, from the main course to desserts and teas and I also wanted them to cut the cake and serve it to people which they did it super quickly too as I was busy with the baby. Thank you for a memorable day!

The best Afghani restaurant! The service was excellent, especially for how busy it was, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was great. The food was amazing; we ordered the grill platter and a chicken and lamb curry, and it was all so flavourful and tender. The mocktails were nice and I would say the price was very reasonable. I would most definitely recommend this place and will come back.

Awesome food, no other word. Its probably the best Indian food i have had in Europe. The mix platter comes sizzling hot and has great options for someone who can’t decide what to order as everything in the menu sounds delicious. The naan is heavy and yum as well. The karahis are also full of flavour. The Cherry on top is the mango lassi. Don’t think just order the jug full of it. 100% recommended

We went to Watan for my sister's birthday, a Friday evening so it would have more people and be busier than usual. I will try to keep this review short and concise and truly providing my experience. It's definitely a five star for me, purely because of the taste of the food. We had about 15 adults with 4 under 6s with us. The kids were well fed, the adults had more than enough food for the evening, very satisfying. We ordered a few platters, some starters and a few extra curry dishes. Everything tasted nice, the aroma and spice were great, not too extravagant. I loved the presentation of the food, the smell, the juicy bites of chicken tenders and kebabs. See my photos for more. The portions and size of the dishes were sufficient, honestly my brother said let's come again with less people, when it's less busy if that can happen and let's really try to get the best out of Watan. The highlight for me was the platter with rice and meat soaking onto the large bread and then dipping it into curry and all those tender meat bites. 5*, will be back - God Willing.

Watan was definitely worth the hour and half drive from Cambridgeshire. We ordered the Lahori Mix Grill which was plentiful and very delicious, I am a huge fan of Lamb Chops and I try Lamb Chops every restaurant I go to so I have this on good authority that these lamb Chops have gone to the top of the list for me. They were extremely tender, juicy and perfectly spiced, the chicken tenders were also extremely delicious and juicy. We also ordered the Chapli Kebab which reminded us of the authentic kebabs of the authentic restaurants in Pakistan. After all this we had Charsi Lamb Karahi, that was a hit and miss for 3 of us, 2 of us loved the sauce but found the extra bones in the Karahi a bit distasteful and the 3rd person in the group just didn't like it. For me Karahi was 3/5. Service was good and all the staff were very good even though the place was packed and they were running everywhere trying to help the customers. Price wise it was a little bit on the expensive side but I guess these London prices so can't complain. All in all a worthwhile experience and will definitely visit again to try the other dishes.

We had lamb shank pilau, chicken tikka biriayani and malai chicken tikka. Pilau was so good portion more than enough for 2 people. The lamb was so succulent. Also the biriyani was yum as always and we took takeout for biriyani. Then mail was yummy. But what I like to mention is the place and how it is kept . Unlike other restaurants in iLford and Eastman which just sell desi food and no cleanliness , this place is so convenient especially when u have a kid around you and hygiene is important. Furnitures were clean and I like to mention that because I just walked out of a restaurant near by this which had bigger nameboard and chair was modern but so dirty. We will visit again and again. Staff were also good and welcoming
