We came as a family of four and each had three amazing courses:
Carrot and ginger soup was delicious (served with bread)
Three of us has the bean and quinoa burgers (w. Sweet potato chips, vegan Mayo, salad) which were amazing. One of us had the wholemeal seeded pizza with pineapple, vegan cheese and red peppers which was also superb. The homemade vegan mayo in particular is incredible, the best we have ever tasted anywhere!
Ordered a side of vegan coleslaw which was delicious.
Had lemon muffins and mango cookies (double layered with homemade chocolate hazelnut spread in between) which were amazing.
We had tea to drink with our meal but we also had the homemade lemonade which was really good too.
The prices are extremely reasonable for the superb quality of food.
Best Vegan food we have had anywhere in Tyneside, I highly recommend to anyone (not just vegetarians/ vegans) and will be returning soon!
Roots Cafe is a wonderful little cafe with a big heart. The scottish breakfasts are to die for, and Chay and the staff are always warm and friendly. I would whole-heartedly recommend Roots to anyone looking for good and hearty home-made food in a positive & inspiring setting. Excellent value, excellent food, and excellent service. Great work, Chay & the staff at Roots.
Absolutely love this place! It's great having a vegan place so close. The food is amazing and great value for money and the staff are very friendly, cannot recommend enough :)
Called in today as I only work down the road and annoyed I haven't ventured into roots before. Picked up a smoothie (pick me up) and a granola bar to take back to the office. Absolute little gem of a place, smoothie was amazing, granola bar was delicious and staff were just lovely!! Will be back. So pleased to have this little place as my now local lunch stop!!
Lovely food and very friendly staff. My 2yr old son has allergies so can't have allot of food from regular places, usually the only desert he can have wen eating out is fruit, but here he's had cookies, muffin and ice cream! He also loved the vegan pizza! Great prices as well for how nice the food is.

Lovely little café with a friendly atmosphere. Wonderful and very tasty food at extremely reasonable prices, and helpful staff who are happy to cater to customer's needs. Great experience, great prices, great food. Lovely to see an independent business catering for veggies, vegans, picky eaters (myself included!), and people with specific dietary requirements/allergies. Couldn't recommend it more!
I love this place. Chay kindly opened a little earlier for me so I could take the kids before going to the pantomime. They had the hot dogs, I didn't think they would eat sweet potato fries that the hot dogs come with so he did them chips instead. I had a very yummy pizza topped with practically everything and vegan cheese. I'll be back one day next week as must have the festive dinner. 😀
Had a lovely pizza and a scrumptious lemon cake! Which were both Dairy free! Whilst enjoying a catch up with other mammys! I would Definitely recommend xx

Went here yesterday for lunch. I'm not a vegetarian and a meat eater so didn't know if I'd actually like it. The food was amazing and I can't wait to go back. I would definitely recommend
Roots' veggie burger is better than any I've tried in the area, and in Newcastle (for a third of the price). Staff are lovely, coffee is great. Home cooked, wholesome, healthy food, from an independent cafe - not to be missed.
Had a lovely meal with friends at Roots Café. Food was delicious. I really loved the sweet potato fries. My walnut burger was a winner too. Great to have a vegan cafe in our town. Will definitely be returning. Thanks to Chay for opening late for us.

Visited roots cafe today with my sister and bro inlaw the food was amazing and the staff were very helpfull to learnt a few tips of the chef about gluten free too the prices were amazing too.
I've been going to Roots since it first opened and it gets better with every visit. Being a vegetarian, it's great to have somewhere that caters for the likes of me in South Shields. This doesn't mean that only veggies will be happy here, though - the food is awesome. The menu is varied and there's a good selection of drinks, especially if you like good, fresh coffee!
