The food here is very good. We went for the carvery and the fish and chips. They had a proper portion of meat in the carvery and the veg was as much as you can eat. The apple crumble was perfect for dessert. The staff are an absolute treat and more than happy to help. We left satisfied and far too full!
We didn't book in advance but I would recommend as they have a smaller kitchen staff than normal. We did wait a while for our food but we were told this was the case. Good food at a reasonable price. Limited menu due to covid. Lisa was our waitress and despite a manic environment was polite, emailing and helpful. Not the first time we've been and we will definitely go again.
We stopped here for a late breakfast on a Sunday in September. The car park is accessed directly off a roundabout on the A361, so is easy to find. The restaurant is a decent size. There's tables for two, four or more. Service is at table. When we were there the place was about a third occupied and service was pretty quick. The breakfasts we chose were very good. We also had the mugs of filtered coffee, which were a really great flavour and very reasonably priced. We also got toast and jams served which were given to each table. We did want the toast, but if you don't, it's worth saying so as I think we were charged for it. The staff do a good job and the service was very efficient. Customer toilets are available and the whole place is fully accessible. Very good standard in our experience.
Amazing breakfast, been going here for years. Will not go anywhere else!!
This is the place to stop not only if you are on your way to holiday but as a local like us. Cannot remember when I have seen such value, the portions are not small. The food is good and wholesome. You give this place five stars for that alone.
We have been using this place for a long time, not that regular but we have had breakfasts and dinner all brilliant. We were tourist when we found the place and I think that was some ten years back.
In all the time we have used it the team have always been warm, welcoming and helpful. A high standards of customer service with an eye for detail.
Thanks
Great carvery, good price and really tasty - I recommend booking a table as it's very popular and busy at peak times ( midday - 2pm on a Sunday). Still feels like a little chef diner which is a bit weird but the food makes up for the outdated feel of the decor!
Just stopped for lunch on the way home to South Wales. This was the best Sunday lunch I have eaten out ever. The choice of vegetables was outstanding and it all tasted delicious. Very friendly staff too. Would highly recommend The North Gate in. X
This used to be a Little Chef back in 2002 when it changed to this independant. It's starting to feel a bit run down now but the food is good and the staff were welcoming and very helpful in accommodating some complex allergies. The menu is extensive, almost too long. But the quality was still there. A great place to stop for food. Marked this down due to looking a bit run down. A bit of gardening outside and some new chairs would fix that.
We have visited the Northgate twice in the past 2 weeks. Wonderful meals both times. Served hot with a good helping. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Covid measures being used, staff wearing masks or visors, hand gel available on entrance to the restaurant and the toilets. Have booked again next week.
We found this little gem quite by accident on our way to the milky way for a fun day out. It was breakfast time when we found it. When we walked in we were greeted and seated. We were quite a large group going in with a fussy small child, not one of us had what was on the menu but that was ok nothing was to much trouble for them, we were all staring when our food came very quickly it was an awesome meal. Service with wlan smile. Iv made sure if saved the the place on my favourites for the next time we go to Devon . If your passing pop in for a delicious meal.
Large portions, didn't manage to eat it all. Lovely food, attentive staff.
Good size car park, noticed a child's play area too.
Will be back when next in the area.
Downside bushes concealed entrence from car park a bit and signs.
Had four good main courses. My steak and mushroom pie with mash and peas was a good proportion and delicious taste with tender chucks of meat.. Pub style food in a modern comfortable setting.
An easy five stars. Firstly, they are open again after Covid lockdown and they are taking the precautions seriously. Hand gel on the entrances and toilets, staff wearing full face masks, tables sanitised after each guest etc. A very friendly welcome - it has a homely family-run feel. Breakfast was very tasty and served very quickly. I read some other derogatory reviews about the decor. I suppose the carpet is looking a bit outdated and some of the furniture is a bit tatty but it was clean which is the main thing. I will definitely stop here again in the future. Very handy for anyone travelling to North Devon on the link road.
We stumbled across this place as managed to get further than anticipated before needing to stop, due to no traffic. Polite staff. Good food. Reasonable prices. Plus the bonus to let the children run off some steam with the play ground and swings and secure green area.
Lovely staff. Alway made welcome. What ever time I’ve gone. love the breakfast there. Sausages are amazing. In fact I’ve not enjoyed a breakfast like there’s anywhere around there.
Lovely staff. The choice of food was really good and every meal that we have eaten there has been excellent. Highly recommend it.
