Lovely pub. Remote but walkable into Skipton via a public path followed by housing estate. Would be helpful if more buses during set months. Not everyone has a car or access to one. The rooms were lovely with no faff TV remote to turn on TV and easy shower where a dial was turned for cool or hot shower. Very hospitable staff. I enjoyed my stay immensely.
Stayed at the Craven Heifer Inn last night and although it's decor I feel was dated, it certainly has everything you need for a lovely stay. Great twin bedroom was lovely and warm on arrival , good shower/bathroom. The inn and bedrooms are spotless and the staff especially the young woman with ponytail (sorry didn't get her name) who served us in the dining room this morning was really friendly & hospitable.
Lots of nods to the past with pictures and farming tools. We really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend and revisit . The only downside, a little out of the way for the Skipton town but a taxi was only £6. We could have walked it easily but my dog is old boy now. Breakfast was gorgeous and very well presented as was the help yourself breakfast or fruit juices, danish, fresh fruit, yogurt and cereal. Really good break the views from the Inn is also beautiful.
Lovely 2 night break over valentine's day . Superb value for money. Stayed in a standard room . Nice medium ish mattress. Coffee & tea facilities. TV . Plug in radiator to heat the room . Which was enough. We were very comfortable. Accommodation could maybe do with a little tlc . But we very much enjoyed our stay here . The breakfast for absolutely fantastic. Large car park . ( Watch out for the pot holes in the dark ) Thanks to the girls at breakfast time and later in the day . They were lovely. Excellent service, with lots of smiles all round . Top stuff . Would definitely recommend. Would definitely stay here again . Had a wonderful break away . Excellent location in Yorkshire.
Great value for money. Lovely staff. Room comfortable and clean. Great breakfast. Served good real ales. Great views and a Woodland Burial site accessible from car park which was good to see. The only downside was the squeaking bedroom door which closed very slowly. And no milk had been left in the room for a cup of tea and no one to ask because bar was closed.
Beautiful & clean a must visit place!! A home from home experience ideal for families & anyone searching for solitude. The friendly staff, warm atmosphere with great food & excellent service is a rare pleasure. There is outdoor seating to enjoy the surroundings & a large car park is available. The area is surrounded by natural beauty and breathtaking peaceful views. There are many walking trails ideal for nature lovers. Accommodation is provided & I will definitely be visiting in the summer. A haven of tranquility 10/10
Stayed here as a motorhome stopover. Good selection of drinks in the bar and excellent value food. Easy walk into the bustling market town. We will definitely be back, looking forward to another meal there
Stopped here for 2 nights only on first night but had to leave review already. Arrived after 5pm was greeted by 3 young ladies who was all very polite, was checked in and after a shower went down for food. Well starter main and dessert was exceptional wings was great gammon steak was beautiful and sticky toffee pudding was yummy. Room is big and nice shower room. Tv could do with being bigger.
Nice place, nice people lovely breakfast great price to stay over, if there is a slight complaint, then the mattress needs an upgrade
The bar staff were very friendly and the Sunday carvery was nice. It's dog friendly and you can stay in the car park for free if dining. I would recommend.
Stayed here twice this month. Both for 3-4 days. The rooms are basic clean, warm and just what i needed. The huge plus point is the food.. These are the best meals i have had out in years. High end quality at very reasonable prices. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. This was a work trip however i will be returning on any social dog walking breaks in the dales. 👍
Stopped for dinner and stayed overnight in our campervan.
Thoroughly enjoyed our Skate wings and Lamb Henry, followed by Eton mess, scrumptious 😋, brilliant service, even bridging a bowl of water for our dog with treats too and our beer was perfect a local hand pulled couple of pints 👍
Great value will definitely come back 👍
Visited for lunch and with it being a Sunday had the Carvery. Beautiful food. Apart from the meat you get as much as you want from vegetables and potatoes.
Took a while to get someone's attention to order desserts but when we got them they were lovely. Think it was because they were getting a bit busier by this point.
Great location - although nice weather certainly helped today.
We found this lovely place while looking for somewhere to eat. We had the pies, they were fantastic, everything was homemade. The staff are really friendly too, it had a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely go again. Couldn't comment about the rooms as we didn't stay.
Very friendly staff, chilled out, great little walk straight from the carpark towards the golf course. Have to say though that Nancy who showed us to our rooms was extremely welcoming, friendly and genuine and that makes a huge impact when arriving somewhere even for a night. The ensuite was very clean. Room was basic but better than expected as had all the essentials and comfortable but the price was very cheap and well worth the price! Fresh Pan au Chocolat at breakfast but would have liked to have seen some croissant, bread rolls. Thank you for the stay, would come again.
Stayed here in the carpark overnight so we could get to an appointment the next day at 9.30 instead of leaving home at stupid o’clock.
The staff were great and very helpful and friendly, and out dog loved the free home made doggie biscuits
The food was brilliant and all homemade fresh.
I especially enjoyed the shoe rack where I could allow my toes to reach the luscious carpet. I also loved the cocktail “The Dead Wife” I could really taste the peppermint tea bag.
It all started when I was watching the latest installment of the BATMAN franchise. I didn't enjoy it (Robbie P is certainly no Michael keaton and I certainly am not a cretin). It made me think "what on earth does a well-to-do, ruggedly handsome, yet middle-aged woman do with her time?". I recalled a time when my penpal Tyler wrote me about a place called "Craven Heifer". "What on earth is that?! I exclaimed. "A concentration camp?!". It turns out, it was a traditional 19th century inn located relatively close to Skipton Moor. I shrugged, "best give it a go", I thought. My expression took on the solemnities similar to that of the Amazonian Capybara. I sat in my vehicle feeling underwhelmed.
When I arrived at the 'Heif, I noticed it was pebbledash'd, if you will. This was perhaps ideal to give a rustic feel, yet not accessible for one who enjoys heeleys, such as myself. I was forced to clamber my way towards the main entrance, like professor filch chasing after a small child.
When I cast my eyes over the entrance I regarded the rounded lettering that surrounded the "Craven Heifer Inn", this was in a font similar to Times New Roman. Wonderful choice. It was backed by brick though, not the most inclusive or dyslexia friendly choice. I have a friend who can't read from brick. They could have been lost for hours.
I was greeted at the door by a bubbly man who simply referred to himself as "Deek". Not the most professional, but a homely touch. The windows were lined with a smattering of condensation, after all this was the 24th of January (a very moist day). I placed my shoes upon the rack provided and walked barefoot through the atrium. I noted the vestments of the staff - not unlike the robes of a catholic priest or some other predator. They were however haughty, and and I was understanding of this choice.
I was aghast when I realised that the Zimbabwean men's choir were seated in the dining room (had I known, i'd have curtseyed). One of the men, upon seeing my countenance, announced "Mhata", to which there was rapturous applause from the other choir members. I felt proud. While I cannot attribute this positive experience solely to Craven Heifer and must admit that most of the credit goes to the joyous culture of the Zimbabwean people, the 'Heif did indeed provide the mood and setting for such a delightful moment.
As I finally skated to my provided seat (heeleys are 75% appropriate within the establishment) I was met with a vibrant amuse bouche composed of pasta and frogs legs - what a treat. My mouth watered while the portly gentleman who had been engaged in warming my seat excused himself. Another treat.
I ordered from the waiter, a firey-haired gentleman who referred to himself as 'Waldorf', he seemed pleased with my choice of a southern-fried chicken burger with salad and a poached potato waffle. In the intervening time my drink order had arrived - I went for a twist on a classic cocktail that the establishment calls "Dead wife" - containing a small measure of Chateauneuf du pape, Angostura Bitters and 3 Fl. ounces of echo falls, garnished with a teabag. It offered a fragrant and pungent aroma, in which my nostrils were satisfied such that I took a long, deep swill of the liquid. I felt a squelch as I swallowed , savouring the peppery flavour that almost made me believe that the teabag was peppermint. Dead wife indeed.
Another amuse bouche was shortly on the way, a small bowl of popcorn that was borederline overfilled - a clever slight of hand by the restaurant in this regard. Nevertheless the portion was reasonable save for the piece of popcorn that fell and was accidentally volleyed into the gullet of a rotund child at the next table. He seemed pleased, so no harm, no foul.
The main course was like a journey down the Ancient River Hooley, that is to say, it was slightly moody yet pleasant at heart. I Clunn to the flavours as the last bites of the burger slid down my gullet. Finally, my desert was a Hazel Dining experience - they provided warm roasted hazelnuts. Noice.
10/10 would eat again.
Stayed one night with breakfast included. Amazing value. Room was clean with cosy duvet and pillows. Loads of parking space with a lovely view.
Breakfast in the morning was superb with a great cooked veggie choice. Service was excellent.
Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a base to explore the Dales etc..
